There was something that completely baffled me in my previous role which was the relationship between CCP and EON magazine. For those that donGÇÖt know, the magazine is published and produced in London and shipped all over the world for an astronomical fee. Some may argue that this due to no external adverts, such as computer companies, being allowed to advertise therefore no extra income can come from that. ThatGÇÖs fair enough, itGÇÖs apparently what you players wanted GÇô or so I was told.
The main thing that baffles me is that CCP have a perfectly good publishing company in Atlanta GÇô where the EVE store is located GÇô called White Wolf Publishing. They have the contract to produce merchandise for CCPGÇÖs other game, World of Darkness, so the relationship is already there. So why not give them the contract for EON magazine?
I can see many advantages to this.
No more astronomical postage fees as most of the subscriber base is America, after all itGÇÖs the biggest country. DonGÇÖt have to be a genius to work that one out.
In direct contact with CCPGÇÖs store (no time difference issues) for updates & content.
Communication again in terms of stock, sales etcGǪ
More favourable exchange rate for players outside of the USA to purchase.
The price for the magazine is far too high at $14.95. DonGÇÖt get me started on the price of the posters.
Time delay for shipping greatly reduced.
If you can make the magazine cheaper, the more sales you will attract as I know the price has put off potential buyers having had many a discussion at fanfest. The more magazines you sell, the greater the chance of gamers who donGÇÖt play the game taking an interest which will lead to more subscriptions. Also, push on with digital subscription as I suspect over 75% of us either have a tablet, a laptop, a smartphone or all three.
I suppose the disadvantage may be that White Wolf Publishing may be very familiar with World of Darkness and not EVE Online but I can say that the current producers of the magazine arenGÇÖt familiar with the game at all. The editor is a miner who never logs on, the designer plays WOW and the Publishing Director doesnGÇÖt even have an account! |

Last time I looked it was not. Europe > America, especially if you include russia.
Besides ordering anything from the eve store costs ALOT, its like they dip in in gold and ship it through viking raiders or something.
The magazine is even quite resonably prices compared to the shipping costs of other items. (prolly because they are based in the UK) - [yellow]English only please. Zymurgist[/yellow] |

I would fully support a drop in price of EON. But, I mostly don't have a sub because I procrastinate, a lot.

They definitely need to resolve the shipping issues, but going with a new publisher is a bad idea. Why? Because MMM is doing a kickass job with Eon and they should NOT be removed from the helm. A better idea is to get it distributed from the US for all N. American orders (I suggest using Amazon fulfillment for this).
Eon is one of the strong points of Eve and CCP should do everything they can to make it more widely available while maintaining current quality (do NOT cheapen the publishing process just to drop the cost a few dollars; the extreme quality of Eon as it is today should never be cheapened...it's well WORTH the $15 an issue). The reason why it's published in London is because that is where MMM Publishing is based. EON is their baby :D |

I had a sub to Eon. It's a well produced magazine. Very high quality and, IMO worth the price. But that price IS high. Kinda like a BMW. Great if you can afford it.
But changing publishers would change the mag, and you don't know what you'll get. Could be better, could be worse. Moving it to USA, you can almost guarantee the quality of the physical magazine will go down.
Such a change is akin to folks who want to completely change eve to 'make it better.'. Maybe the best of intentions, but misguided and ham-fisted approach. |

It all depends on who has rights on what.
For example if CCP had the rights to the magazine as a whole including content, concept and design then it would be easy for them to change the publisher.
If however it's as i suspect and MMM actually own all the rights to the content and design and only pay royalties to CCP for intellectual rights to the brand then CCP would have no say in the matter because it is not their magazine, it would be like pc gamer runing a 2 page spread on EVE and CCP demanding that if they want to publish it they have to do it using CCP's publishers, not going to hapen. |

and that relates to the eve player base how?, anyway with both military spending and prisoners as % of population, USA is #1 |

AFAIK E-ON predates the merger with White Wolf.
So there's probably some sort of licensing agreement or contract that's still in force from the early days. Dulce et decorum est pro imperium mori. |

They should also sell 'Fearless". If we drop mumble about MT content in that leaked pdf, magazine itself is pretty intresting

because America is the biggest country, most eve subscribers live in America.
I just pointed out that this condition was not given - but that doesn't exclude the conclusion being right regardless of it.

Well for what its worth at 50+ dollars for a subscription to a gaming magazine where you only get 4 magazines a year... its hard to justify to the accountant and by accountant I mean wife. Its cool and I would love to have it buts its kind of like a lap dance... I gotta a couple of twenties with me, so its either two drinks or a 10 minute lap dance.. sometimes I can't resist and I go for it, but usually I use the money on the cocktails to get more bang for that buck. |

And that has influence on the subscriber base from there and the distances involved... how?
OP: I'm sure all that will benefit the US player somewhat, but not by as much as you'd think. And as the US slice of the playerbase isn't THAT large, sorry lad.
