Repost of the post here as it will never get dev attention (page 2 atm).
I just tried to restore my overview settings after last patch - with no luck of course, just like every damn patch.
Anyway, after that I tried to migrate the overview settings from my friend as instructed here: http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=341361&page=2#49
I assume that the user ID is the one like in the API key ID, and the Char ID is the one when autolinking char ingame, and hovering mouse over the link before hitting enter?
Well this doesn't work! each time I copy the settings, rename with my IDs, launch eve, I see how during the login process, the files are being reset from 80kb and 5kb to ~500bytes... no matter what I try.
And seeing as you somehow keep nuking my settings for years, and backups usually don't work (had 4 different eve installs, all are messed up now), I think its only fair you'd give us some info on how to easily migrate settings across different users/characters please!
And better yet, assign 1-2 hours for one programmer there, to write official, proper overview setting manager please! Cant be that hard, and I am sure I am not the only one with this particular problem every patch!
Thanks! I really hope this gets the proper attention this time pretty please :) |

Bump
I would love to know how to do this... i have some idea on how it all works but still nothing so far. try this change your eve folder's name. start eve (OMG i just lost all my overveiw settings) change the eve folder name back to what it was (OMG sweet everything is back the way it was)
so there are some files on your computer that point to your clients with your overveiw settings and all that jazz but i cant find them or work out how i would be able to use them to move my settings to my other clients and stuff.

Edited by: cuncannon on 02/09/2008 18:52:18 just copy the user dat files accross then all the settings will be there
This is where mine are stored
D:\Documents and Settings\Darren\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\d_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility\settings
copy all files in here to a backup director if patch has buggered up the overview you can then just replace them with the backup copy

That sounds awesome - but it doesnt work. At least not always. I did just that before I patched today, reinserting them after I had clicked Finish instead of Launch Application AND after logging into the game to check. Result? Everything reset. For once I kept the overview settings, but that was it, everything else was totally reset right down to chat windows. I agree with the OP, in a game this old, please, get off your tush and make at least a cheesy down and dirty guide from a Dev eh? |
