Here are three screenshots that demonstrate what we are talking about.
Screenshot 1 - Before undock with windows where I want them Screenshot 2 - After undock in space. No problems. Screenshot 3 - After redock. Windows have lost their minds and reshuffle themselves.
This was done in 1280x1024 Windowed mode without EVEMon running.
If I had to guess I'd say it looks like something to do with how the chat and ships windows are drawn. The ship window looks like the first one drawn and the chat windows appear to be the last. This is the order I see them appear in rapid succession when I dock.
Hope this helps. ---

Edited by: S''vart Tseirgn on 22/06/2008 07:22:26 For what it's worth, I'm another one who's been experiencing this problem - and likewise I run my clients in windowed mode @ 1280x1024. I'll try altering my snap-to distance and keep my windows apart to see if that changes anything.
EDIT: That is - once I'm able to connect to the server.... >.>

For what little it helps,
I suffer from a similar problem on undock. I keep the overview command window in the top right, below this the main overview, and locked to the command window's left the drone window. Everytime upon undocking the command window switches to below the drone window.

I have the same issue.
Vista Ultimate 64 Windowed Mode 1920x1080 Nvidia 8800 GTS 6gb ram Intel Quad
I'm in the process of submitting a bug report. I cleared cache per recommendation of this sticky. http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=793350
I still have the same issue.

This is very annoying, 1280 x 768 windowed (not much room on my screen to fit everything) and my windows are jumping around all over the place >:-(

To tell you what seems to be the problem is the snap to feature for the windows. I've noticed that if I have window snapped to another window and i close that first window, it drags the window its snapped to across the screen as it closes. I've had this problem when programming some stuff in linux to work under gnome.

Ironically, after making my own workaround (thanks for that snap to distance 3 tho,) i recently discovered another joyous bug: some of the windows are starting to be perma-pinned. I can't move them at ALL. lol! ______________________ Best darned links ingame and out (backup) |

How about an option to disable snap altogether? Might be a quick and easy fix depending on how the UI windows are built.
For the neat freaks (like me) we could always turn snap on, rearrange the windows until we're happy, turn snap off.

On the test server with the new build, the services and docked interface in the stations when you are docked (on the right of the screen) is no longer static and jumps all over the place everytime I open a new window like fitting or market, and makes the jumpy windows 10 times worse when you are docked I find.

Here's a hint - it seems to relate to window docking.
If window 'A' is docked onto window 'B' and window 'B' is closed, window 'A' will often jump to another location. It /seems/ to jump to a default location in the direction of the lost dock point. IOW in my example if 'A' is above 'B' window 'A' will jump to the bottom of the screen when 'B' is closed.
My guess is that the docking logic fails to find the dock target and returns a default position.
Whatever the exact cause - you can avoid this by simply never docking windows if either is likely to close. When moving a window watch out for the dock indicator (|<-) and either overlap the windows or keep a gap between them. -- (Sarcastic mission running veteran, 4+ years)

And here I was thinking that I was going Nuts, Been having this issue since before EA, now it is worst because it now involves the Station Services window. I run 3 different clients on 3 different PCs all with the same Problem, about the only thing that they have in common is that they run in window mode. Although I have seen it happen in Fullscreen mode on my Laptop too.
PC 1 = Dual OpteronX2, 4GB RAM, Vista 64 ultimate Windowed at 1680x1050 PC 2 = Core2Duo, 2GB RAM, Windows XPPro, Windowed at 1024x768 Laptop = PentiumM, 1GB RAM, Windows XP Pro, Windowed or Fullscreen at 1024x768
I Typically have Selected top right, docked to the Next out Location(not to the Right Edge) and Next Down Location(Not to the Top Edge) so that I can see the icons on the outside, the Overview Window docked to the bottom of the Selected Window, the Broadcast Fleet Window docked to the bottom of that. On the Left Hand Side, have the main Chat Window Bottom Left(Again not to the Edge but next in location), the Local Chat Window On top of that, with the Main Fleet Window docked to the Right of the Local Chat Window

It would be great if CCP did even minimal QA so that paying customers would not have to find, document and report obvious bugs.
