Edited by: Alt Sauce on 13/06/2008 21:11:46 After installation, I try to start the game and get an error message...
Sorry, we cannot proceed until the following error(s) is/are corrected:
/home/larry/Public/.global.delta needs to be writable /home/larry/Public/.cedegarc needs to be writable
I assume it is a permissions thing since I installed the game in Public. Anyone know how to solve this?

Apparently you're too stupid to know how to fix this as well. |

And you don't deserve to post. Why are you trolling here? Seriously.
Anyways, open your home folder in nautilus (the GNOME file manager) right click the folder Public > Properties > Permissions, and then change it so you can create and destroy files.
Oh, and btw, for most people WINE will work better for EVE and run premium graphics. Check the Note here and you can ask questions in the wine thread in this forum.

Thanks for the help, it works now.
I might try Wine, but it seems like an easy way out. I like having a Linux PC for the challenge, relying on Windows takes away from the fun.

Just a bit of background info, WINE doesn't rely on windows at all. It just translates windows api/directx calls to linux/opengl calls. And when you are playing the offical EVE linux client you are using a wrapped version of Cedega, which is a proprietary fork of WINE (and the reason why WINE was GPL'ed I think). In other words, the offical client is basically a different (non-free) version of WINE with some packaging on top.

chmod 666 /home/larry/Public/.global.delta chmod 666 /home/larry/Public/.cedegarc
But a wiser one should come from you depending on the owner/group of the file and directory. You can also apply the rights on the directory if the files dont exists, but again it depends on the owner/group of the directory and with which users you are trying to write/create the files.

All I get is the splash screen under both Wine and Cedega...then the client just dies on me - I'm working under Kubuntu.
Suggestions? Ideas? This has only started happening since AE.... :s

chmod 600, not 666. only the owner of the file needs to access it. also maybe try sudo chown larry.larry /home/larry/Public/.cedegarc /home/larry/Public/.global.delta
