I see on login that tomorrow's update will have a new launcher.
Has anybody tried this out on the test server? Is it even available there?
This seems to be the sort of thing that could make Wine sad, potentially.... |

Apparently it works for some people, but I have yet to manage a successful test run with the Singularity code.

The launcher works fine, updates fixes et all. I just can't get the client to run without crashing after it's done.

Snowflake Tem wrote:I just can't get the client to run without crashing after it's done patching.
At all, ever again? Or just right then?
That is, after it's done patching, if you re-run Eve, is all well again?
Up to now, I've not patched from within the launcher. I download the patch and run it manually through Wine. I've had better luck with that than letting the current launcher do it.
I'm hoping that the new launcher isn't so user friendly that this way of working will no longer be an option.... And, if it's not, I hope that us Linux folks can still get on.
(I have no Windows backup install, because I have no Windows anywhere.)

Yeah, I'm unable to get this working under 1.2.2, which ships with ubuntu 11.04.
If anyone else needs to find this setting to try it, do winecfg, select library, scroll down to the msvcr100 one, click add, edit, and change it.

Swapping the order for vcrun100 also worked for me.
I guess I totally misunderstand the purpose of the launcher though... The first time it ran it patched up the client, then after fixing the vcrun100 issue the launcher said 'client ready' and I hit the PLAY button. The client said there was a patch available and did it's usual self-patch process.
So.. I guess the launcher only does major updates and the client itself still does optional patches? I'm not seeing much benefit to the launcher. |

New launcher so far:
Crashed, but as others mentioned, installing via winetricks and setting the dll worked fine. I was running wine-1.3.37 before which was super stable and nice, but that failed to start the game. Updated to wine-1.4-rc6, and that got my game running.
Now, when I try to start a second Eve process, I'm told the launcher will only allow "one instance"? Did CCP really make a launcher that requires a seperate copy of Eve for each of your toons?
Anyone found a viable way around that except having multiple .wine folders?
Is it just me or is wine-1.4-rc6 really laggy? I get 15-20 FPS where I got a stable ~60 in 1.3.37?

worked here without installing vcrun2010, with fix above.
Problem remains, i can only launch one client.
i use this to start it:
Quote:wine explorer /desktop=eve1,2046x1024 ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/CCP/EVE/eve.exe
also tried '/launcher/launcher.exe' instead of eve.exe.
allways complains about running multiple instances.
i guess symlinking the directorys to diffrent names might work, but that could possibly screw up the launcher.
any ideas (except installing 3 clients obviously)

Well it seems we had a new update uppon the 4th update of the 3rd update and then another runtime error : R6034 this time.
I've tried to modify the way you described but it crashes the launcher... (I mean when i overrive msvcr80/90)
I can only have the launcher interface when modifying msvcr100 to : builtin, native and then , the brand new runtime error when i click "Play".

Here is what i have :
msvcr100 (builtin, native) msvcr80 (builtin, native) msvcr90 (builtin, native) msvcrt (builtin, native)
I've switched my OS Language from French to English (United States), closed my session, opened my session again and applied :
export LANG=en_US.UTF-8 export LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8 export LANGUAGE=en_US.UTF-8
Checked with locale that everything is good and started the game and now it runs fine but my OS is in english so... Erm, i can deal with it but that's not a really good solution.
CCP, please correct this, we all don't want to have an english OS just to run the game. |

You don't need your system locale to be set to english. You can only change it to the EVE client by adding export strings to startup script or by running it with: env LANG=en_US.UTF-8 LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8 wine blablabla |

Changing language worked for me for python27.dll error as of 14.03 before the DT patch. However after DT patch my Eve client is messed up again :))
I stop trying to make it work. Every single small patch since Crucible 1.5 i make it work after several hours of googling stuff and sitting in console trying to make something out of it and then comes yet another small *patch* that is released to supposedly fix the issues and it completely screwes everything up all over again.
Queue set for 3 weeks so i'm going to take a week or so of break and i'll go from there. Good luck to you all |

If the patcher fails to download the patch, revert to (native, builtin):
msvcr10 (native, builtin) msvcr8 (native, builtin) msvcr9 (native, builtin) msvcrt (native, builtin)
It should download and patch up fine. But in order to play the game, you'll have to revert back again:
msvcr100 (builtin, native) msvcr80 (builtin, native) msvcr90 (builtin, native) msvcrt (builtin, native)
Worked for me. And as a side note, dear developers, why not just use crossplatform framework like Qt or GTK? |

I tried almost everything in this forum with no success. In the end wine update fixed it. So for Ubuntu 64b 11.10 following setup was working ... at least for today release of launcher and eve ;) * Wine 1.4-rc6 ... previously I had for some reason 1.2.3 and this version was never able to run eve (various crashes depending on dll setup) ... 'apt-get install wine' fixed it * installed: winetricks dlls vcrun2010 * Wine DLL overrides set to builtin, native for msvcrt, msvc80, msvcr90, msvcr100 * running: LANG=en_US.UTF-8 LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8 wine eve.exe ... otherwise launcher fails on date parsing This is working setup for me. No speed change detected, but I have disabled sound because it was and still is causing freezing/lagging rendering. (Launcher itself was always working for me ... before I started with fixing eve. I already have all patches applied so I can't test it, lets see how patching will work next time with setup above.) |

You might want to holdfire on those performance tuning efforts, there's a new patch and launcher version on the way Mar 16th as per this dev blog http://community.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&nbid=28515 - tl;dr - new launcher version 1.11
With any luck the overrides will hold and the patch will update, but given what's been happening this week, that's might be a long shot. |

I found out that i need different setting for launcher and different for game.
For game (bin/ExeFile.exe) :
winecfg
*msvcrt100 (build,native) *msvcrt80 (build,native) *msvcrt90 (build,native)
For launcher (eve.exe) :
winecfg
*msvcrt100 (native,build) *msvcrt80 (native,build) *msvcrt90 (native,build)
So im running game directly by bin/ExeFile.exe , it works so far. |

After three days of fruitless trials and fixes, I finally got things working tonight, so for those still looking for a fix, here's what I've done; I installed wine-1.4-rc6 (https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-wine/+archive/ppa), downloaded the eve offline installer (http://community.eveonline.com/download/?fallback=1&), and then went on to a terminal window to do the following:
winecfg (this is just to set up the environment, so just quit) cd ~/.wine/drive_c winetricks vcrun2008 winetricks vcrun2010 wine EVE_Online_Installer_351477.exe (default settings) winetricks corefonts wine msiexec /i msxml3.msi (from http://download.cnet.com/Microsoft-XML-Parser-MSXML-3-0-Service-Pack-7-SP7/3000-7241_4-10731613.html) LANG=en_US.UTF-8 LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8 WINEDLLOVERRIDES="*msvcrt,*msvcr100,*msvcr80=b,n" wine Program\ Files/CCP/EVE/bin/ExeFile.exe
(wine was updated to 1.5 later tonight, and it still works) *NOTE* for me this dosen't work with ".../EVE/eve.exe" - the launcher starts but it can't launch the client. I guess it needs some more winetricks applied to work with the launcher.
Today the client also started to work under PlayOnLinux (http://www.playonlinux.com/en/download.html) again, wine 1.4rc6/1.4/1.5, plus loads of librarys/dlls installed - which is how I usually run it, since before Crucible 1.5. Load flags for all libraries are left at default, except *msvcrt, *msvcr100, *msvcr80, *msvcr90, which are set to "builtin then native". This installation runs the launcher and repairer as well, but might fail to update the client through the launcher (see other posts for fixes, or use the offline installer - repairing a broken update with the repairer v3.45, http://cdn1.eveonline.com/client_repair/345/repair.exe, has worked for me).
Both variants works in windowed, fixed window and full screen. Captains Quarter doesn't work, as per usual (actually, it works once in a blue moon - I had it running once tonight).
This is basically just putting all previous knowledge in this and a few other threads to good use, but it still didn't work until late yesterday. Strangley enough, the PlayOnLinux installlation is the same now as it has been for 48 hours, only difference is that it works now. It started to work just after the plain wine installation started to work - and no, they don't share any files or settings. I can selectively break each by "winetricking" them or even delete one or the other (there was one system update today - totally unrelated [*tm], but, well, I don't know, maybe it's the moon phase?). The PlayOnLinux "user.reg" has the following relevant Direct3d settings: "DirectDrawRenderer"="opengl", "Multisampling"="disabled", "OffscreenRenderingMode"="pbuffer", "PixelShaderMode"="enabled", "UseGLSL"="enabled", "VideoMemorySize"="512". The plain wine version has none.
Platform: Ubuntu 64bit 11.04 Natty 2.6.38-13-generic, no fancy desktop thingys, like Unity, Compiz - or wallpaper :). AMD 6-core Phenom II, 8GB, AMD (ATI actually) 3870 512MB with proprietary drivers (fglrx), One Desktop spread out over two screens (Xinerama), RandR 1.2.
My "favorite" reading since the patch struck: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=80365 ("issues" thread) https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=79999 (this thread) https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=80447

I only need to override msvcr100 if I am executing ExeFile.exe directly.

It works (somewhat) for me. Even though
step 1: removing wine-dir rm -rf ~/.wine
step 2 (optional): compiling and installing wine 1.5 I used the git version but the binaries should work too
step 3: creating a test dir and setting prefix i made one in /media/data/winetest export WINEPREFIX=/media/data/wineprefix downloaded the winetricks stuff winetricks corefonts vcrun2005 vcrun2008 vcrun2010 d3dx9_43
step 4: downloading the eve-client export WINEPREFIX=/media/data/wineprefix (had to open new terminal) wget http://content.eveonline.com/351477/EVE_Online_Installer_351477-2.exe wine EVE_Online_Installer_351477-2.exe do the next, next, next, install, finish routine
step 5: creating the shell-scripts i copied the ones here: linky changed the prefix to my situation (/media/data/winetest)
step 6 disabling walking in stations logged in, stopped at character screen, whent to options, disabled'load station environment' clicked at character.
worked for me.

I created two aliases in my ~/.bashrc . Works fine for now
Quote: alias eve='WINEDLLOVERRIDES="*msvcrt,*msvcr100,*msvcr90,*msvcr80=b,n" wine "C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\bin\ExeFile.exe"' alias eve_launcher='WINEDLLOVERRIDES="*msvcr100,*msvcr90,*msvcr80=n,b" wine "C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\eve.exe"'

Yes, just put explorer /desktop=0,[_your max resolution_] between wine and the program. here is the modified alias as an example
Quote: alias eve='WINEDLLOVERRIDES="*msvcrt,*msvcr100,*msvcr90,*msvcr80=b,n" wine explorer /desktop=0,1920x1200 "C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\bin\ExeFile.exe"'
Also, in my experience the Alt-Tab bug that made windowed mode necessary is gone now so there should be no crashes without windowed mode. But i'm not 100% sure, only tested on my machine with one client |

So, I got the python27.dll error trying to update today, and all I had to do for it to work was go back to native, builtin for the msvcr libraries during the update. I didn't try to launch the client, I just swapped back to builtin, native, and then launched. Everything came up fine.
Note that I run the Launcher, and I've gone into Launcher preferences and told it to only show itself when there's an update, and I've told it to quit after it launches. This should make dual-boxing feasible, although I haven't bothered to fund my second account for a month or two.
For what it's worth, I've got Wine 1.4 from the Git repository, built just before the 1.5 cut, and I'm running it on Debian Wheezy (testing) with Wheezy's stock nVidia 295.20 (with TwinView turned on) and Linux 3.2.0 (again stock Wheezy) on AMD64.

Publius, I had the same problem (python27.dll error) when I wanted to start the launcher before I tried Karak's solution. Give it a try. |

I'd give it a try, but the far simpler solution I posted worked for me the first time, as noted!
Edit: And as a helpful note to Debian users out there... Even Wheezy has terribly outdated, some might say worthless, Wine packages. Build from source, build from source! |

When I read this I was disappointed as I already had it set to builtin, native. However I just removed them from the overrides list and I could update. Thanks for the inspiration :) I've been looking for a solution for a few days and it turns out to be as simple as that! |

I also was able to patch the launcher through this method. It's only launcher updates that are affected.
1. winecfg 2. Change the libraries from builtin, native to native, builtin for patching 3. Start eve, and let it patch. 4. Do winecfg and change back to builtin, native. 5. Start eve, your launcher is patched, so just go.
Nice job, Publius Victrix. |

I did this, almost to the letter, and was able to finally run exefile.exe and run eve. Had some other hiccups and now have some crashing due to the issue with python but hopefully monday patch fixes it.

I did not need to change my dll overrides in wine to succesfully run the launcher and install todays patch, so I am pretty sure our launcher problems are also behind us for now.

Running 12.04, EVE work fine before patch but after it tells me a bunch of files all have CRC errors.
Ran the repair (failed with my wine-eve prefix since no python but works with my basic wine) repair tells me that the big 700mb patch didnt install properly and misses a bunch of files and when the 60mb patch tries to install it goes though but creates the wrong hashes resuling in unable to launch the exe.
repair is still running currently but ill update when its finshed (and my other game round is over) AFK cloaking doesn't earn anything, so it needs a buff! |
