As announced earlier, we will install the new EVE Launcher with EVE Online: Crucible 1.5 on Tuesday, March 13.
You will be asked to download a small patch on Tuesday which will contain the Launcher. When that is done, the EVE Launcher will start and automatically update your client to the correct version and download the required data.
The EVE Launcher has several advantages over our previous approach. It saves the download progress in case of crash so you do not need to download the whole patch again, it displays useful information while updating your client, it easily allows patching of multiple clients in different folders although manual patches outside the launcher are no longer supported and, most importantly, it allows us to improve the login mechanism drastically in the future.
More information about the EVE Launcher is available in this devblog.

So, we will have to do NTFS Junction points to run multiple characters, or install multiple clients for each character? I am not sure if I am technically reliable enough to do the junction points listed, nor do I want to eat up that much drive space installing extra clients just to play multiple characters. If this is the case, then I am afraid I might have to kiss EVE goodbye. ( o Y o ) ( o Y o ) ( o Y o ) ( o Y o ) ( o Y o ) ( o Y o ) ( o Y o ) ( o Y o ) ( o Y o ) ( o Y o ) ( o Y o ) ( o Y o )

Does anybody know how big the patch/update to 1.5 is? Some of us with limited download (4G) need to know.

No. You can launch multiple instances of the same install, just like you can today. The Launcher does not change that.
What did you read to make you think you would have to install multiple clients to run multiple characters at the same time? I want to know so that I can fix that up so that others don't follow to the same misguided conclusion. Associate Technical Producer - Core Technology Group |

In the FAQ section of the EVElopedia on the new new installer, towards the bottom. I probably misread the meaning, but when I read it, it made me believe you wouldn't be able to run multiple characters with the same install. Here is the text I was talking about:
"To avoid having to install multiple clients on the same machine, you can use NTFS Junction Points. More information can be found here: http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Multiple_clients" ( o Y o ) ( o Y o ) ( o Y o ) ( o Y o ) ( o Y o ) ( o Y o ) ( o Y o ) ( o Y o ) ( o Y o ) ( o Y o ) ( o Y o ) ( o Y o )

Say you have PuTTY make an SSH tunnel that points to TQ, then you tell the client to connect to localhost (and PuTTY forwards the connection to TQ). Since the client thinks it's connecting to a server other than TQ, it makes a new settings and cache folder with all the defaults and any changes you make go away when you connect directly. But if you make a junction point for the "localhost" server pointing to the one for TQ, then magically the settings you use when you happen to be connecting via a tunnel are shared with the ones you use when you connect directly. I gather Vista and Win7 (and of course Mac OS and Linux) also let you use symlinks to do the same thing.
But... you don't need multiple installs to run multiple clients, never mind junction points. I do just fine with one. Ceci n'est pas un sig. |

I use a Mac and have been unable to connect to Sisi since the launch of the launcher.
I haven't seen any reliable way to do it and am convinced that when the update launches tomorrow I will also be unable to run multiple clients.
I haven't seen any updated accurate information addressing this, if this is the case, I see a lot of people pretty upset that they can't multiclient. I know a lot of people that pay to run clients simultaneously and losing the ability to do it will be game changing.
Can you take the time to spell out how to do this for PC and mac and update the posts that describe the old, broken methods?
Seems like such a little thing.

I second what the guys posted above, EVE wiki's width is broken, using Firefox as well.
I've got a question as well:
Quote: Q: How will I manage multiple installs? A: If you currently have multiple clients installed on the same machine, you can use the Import/Export feature under the Patches tab in the settings menu. This also works between machines but only if you are updating both of them from, and to, the same version.
..does that affect settings in any way? I assume the settings is not affected by client updates, but it's vital for me to know. I run multiple installs just with the specific reason as to run different setups. Like how I have one setup with 'everything max' (graphics etc) used for PvP, and for multiboxing carebearing I have mid- and low-gfx installs. This shouldn't be an issue I take it, but just want to confirm.
And if you can, it'd be nice if you updated the first post with how long you expect the extended d/t will be today. Just an hour to go, and I went here to try find that info. Ingame popup just said "11:00 to 12:15", and I bet more than me would find it useful to have it posted on the forums.. this is a signature |

On Mac you can use the clone maker, I have just updated the link to the updated version that should work just fine with Crucible 1.5 http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Multiple_clients#Using_the_EVE_Clonemaker CCP Gangleri | Senior Tester

This first run of the Launcher checksums your client directory for comparison. This will be cached for all future runs, so expect future patches to run much more quickly . |

When I launch the old client from a shortcut pointing to a junction it downloads the patch and then fails with a python exception. If I launch from the "native" directory shortcut the installer seems to start up ok and it's now patching. |

http://cdn1.eveonline.com/www/tools/EVE_Clonemaker_rev4.zip <- file not found. so much for that.
Got my second client running with symlinks. Had to copy the Info.plist and PkgInfo from the updated main installtion to the cloned installation. Clients are starting but changing Info.plist as described in http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Multiple_clients#Duplicating_EVE_Online.app doesn't work anymore. It always uses the settings from the main installation. |
