Hey all I wanted to ask some advice on T3 and my current training path. Ive been in nullsec for a long time and one of my biggest struggles is trying to rat effectively. I am primarily a logistics pilot so I have Amarr/Caldari/Minmatar Cruiser to 5. I have the option to train towards a Loki Legion or Tengu. Id love to be able to recieve some advice on each of them if possible.
I have heard many rumors about the T3 and id love to have some of them cleared up. For example ive heard many people say that the Tengu is the best T3 for ratting. The legion is only viable in C3 wormholes and the Loki is only good in pvp. Currently I can completely tech 2 fit a loki including guns. Is the loki viable to rat with or is it a waste of time? Is the Tengu such a perfect ratting ship that I should train for it?
Id love to be able to rat with my loki because I have all the subsystems to 4 currently and I have a complete T2 fit. I just hear that the Tengu is such an overwhelming beast for ratting that it makes me wonder if it was worth bothering to train a loki haha. I am kind of an efficiency **** so thats one of the main reasons im asking.
Anyways I hope some kind people wont mind chiming in to give me some advice.
Best wishes Saint
Hope this is the right forum for such ventures XD |

Yes, the Loki can do just fine at ratting. The main advantage the Tengu has over it is the range of HMLs, but it's not that much of a difference if you're ratting. TBH though, either one of those is overkill when you're ratting, a tier2 BC can do that just fine for 1/5th the cost or less. |

By ratting I mean running sites in nullsec. Havens/sanctums etc. Thank you for you're reply, I greatly apreciate it. |

Ok, for running anoms, then a T3 will do better than a BC (by 'ratting' I assume belt ratting). Then it's as I said, the main advantage the Tengu will have is DPS projection due to HML range; and their resist profiles are different too (but for the Angel and Drone space your alliance has sov in, either one should be just fine).
So, either one should be just fine. If you want to fly a Loki, it'll do just fine, but a Tengu could be slightly more efficient if you're overly concerned with min-maxing. |

Thanks for the response. Sorry about the misuse of the word. I've been out in null-sec for awhile so its kind of become a habit to auto think of anoms as ratting :P.
I've heard so much hype for the tengu it really turned me off on the idea of using the loki to run anoms with. All the rumors made it seem pointless to use anything But a Tengu lol. I'm glad you were able to clear these rumors up. Its really heartening to know that my training for a Loki wasnt wasted :).
Would you recommend a shield or armor setup? I can T2 fit either. I've never really been able to get a high tank with armor before as compared to a shield fit but I'm open to your opinion on either.
Thanks again for you're advice as I really appreciate it, especially when it can clear up misconceived rumors that are always floating around haha :)

Well, since your alliance is out in Drone/Angel space, I'm assuming that's what you'd be fighting against. And for anything but T2/3 Amarr ships (which get a resist boost to Exp), shield tanking will be easier due to the naturally high Exp resist of shields. So I would use shields.
The standard hardener profile for Angels (which should work well for Drones too) is 2x Invul, 1x Exp Hardener. So, those and a shield booster with the right subsystems should do just fine I would think. Play around with EFT messing with subsystems and modules 'till you get a decent tank/gank balance that you feel comfortable with and go for it.
For reference, here are the damage profiles of Angels and rogue drones, formatted for EFT, in case you don't already have them: DamageProfile=Angel,480,0,719,3058 DamageProfile=Rogue Drones,86,91,281,964 |

Tengu would be more efficient in all probability, however, Lokis are far cooler. |

Both with maxed skills are very effective, only + for Tengu is range dmg application. There where you will very probably get sometimes web/scram by smal rats with your Loki, Tengu is just "I shoot you from here" witch gives you better survivability.

I'm not sure there's another ship in the game that kills npc frigates faster than a loki...? Scrammers aren't a problem. |

I think the point there was that a Tengu can remove tackle (or anything else) at 100km whereas a Loki actually has to get close/let them get close. |
