Edited by: Happyalt on 20/06/2008 09:35:46 I think it would be very convenient if stargates in the UI were color coded to represent their security status. When I am roaming around in low sec participating in either factional warfare or piracy I don't always have a destination in mind. I am forever right clicking stargates and showing info to verify security status.
Would it be reasonable to have their color in the UI represent their security status? Kind of like how the next stargate on your autopilot shows up yellow instead of white. *edit follows* Not a mandatory of course, but an option in the UI for this would be great .
Any reason this would not be reasonable?

Sounds to me a nice option. Would be very user friendly.

The more I think about this the more I want it.
As of now I have the option to color code plenty of things on my overview, and can even color code players based on their security status.
Is anyone against this?

Tasty. I would suggest just a White, Yellow or Red colour background for the icon, so taht the orange of "destination gate" is still noticeable. White = hisec, Yellow = lowsec, Red = nosec.

Honestly, while it is a good idea, I don't think this is the proper implementation.
Perhaps color it only when you REACH the gate then keep it the same in the overview, but over the model the color changes.
But the idea doesn't really need to be there anyway because it's already in place on your waypoint list.

Do you mean I would have to warp to the gate and then the icon would be colored differently? As in it would change from white to the appropriate color as I was dropping out of warp???
I would like to have them color coded so that I know not to bother warping to them.

hit F11 and bring up the mini-map, this is invaluable when randomly roaming, lots of great information at your fingertips.

The F11 map is useful, not arguing that. I find it inconvenient though as it pushes my overview and drones window to poor locations. The drones window with the mini map on will cover up all of my modules.
I think I would much rather prefer color coded star gates

It'd also be cool to have red blinky light bits around stargates in space that lead to lowsec and green (or blue) blinky light bits around stargates leading into highsec.
Or any other way to mark stargates at security borders actually. -------- Ideas for: Mining

Great idea!
Especially since I've acquired my fashionable blinky red sec status I wish I could tell at a glance if this stargate leads me to my certain doom in hi sec.
Alternatively also a warning message would suffice before jumping to hi sec, similar to the losec warning that you can turn off.
