'Lo, denizens of OoPE, i have a problem with my laptop (Acer Travelmate 240).
Basically, when we turned it on this morning, the backlight never came on, and without it, to put it simply, you cant see ****. I've no idea what caused this, didn't drop it recently or anything like that. It just never came on. I've tried restarting it a few times, playing with the brightness keys, nothing seems to help.
Its not a gaming laptop in the slightest, its used by my parents to put their bets on the horse racing. If we can't get it fixed, and soon, i'll be having some ****ing boring weekends, as horse racing basically is their weekend. Not having any real consoles will mean i'll have to let them use the PC most days, and be stuck doing **** all.
Reward of isk (20m or so, depends how im feeling) for the best suggestion(s), but im most definately not made of isk so i cant reward any more than 2 or 3 people.
tl;dr = Acer Travelmate 240 screen backlight failed, rewarding isk for suggestions on what to do I'm highly biased about most things, but it has nothing to do with the overall view of my corp or alliance |

This happened to an old laptop of mine. When i say old, i mean the laptop was very old. I took it in to be looked at and the bloke said that the backlight had simply burned out due to age. He also said that it would be cheaper to replace the laptop that to attempt to get the screed replaced which would be very difficult in any case since the laptop was so old.

This is the same model as mine. Its not THAT old really, few years maybe? I'm highly biased about most things, but it has nothing to do with the overall view of my corp or alliance |

No, you didn't
But I do.
edit; changing backlights should be more or less easy, unless they specifically designed that Laptop to be a ***** about it. but that shouldnt be the case these days. (im wondering a bit about the second post... isnt it normally just a few bulbs to exhange? did that tech guy tell you crap?)
its a bit like tires. these things wear, therefore they need to be replacable.

It could be the bulb or the fuse for the bulb, maybe something else. Find all kinds of manuals for your laptop, check the fuse first. If you disassemble your screen and even slightly touch the rubber/misalign connecting parts on the LCD you can end up with LINES of DEAD PIXELS.
Warranty expired? You could also connect it to an external monitor.

probably the easiest solution is to simply go trawling ebay/craigslist/gumtree/local paper/somewhere and get a cheap monitor secondhand to display on.

Where do u live? Send it to your nearest Acer repair centre? My dad sent his Acer laptop to the repair centre in Zug (Switzerland, about 30 mins away). He got it back in a couple of weeks fully replaced screen. -- Banned since 2005, back by popular demand! They said it wouldn't happen!! |

I live in england. Warranty is long gone, its second hand as it is.
My dad has decided to get a new laptop instead of spending ú200 to repair the screen of our current one.
Looks like my internet time will be severely reduced for the next month or two though I'm highly biased about most things, but it has nothing to do with the overall view of my corp or alliance |
