Dear CCP Devs
Could i please get a clear explanation on what i need to do when i get the message "The EVE Launcher cannot update a directory from which processes are running. Please close the following process: launcher.exe", which is keeping me from patching and running the game ? I have unsuccessfully tried to manually run the patch, run the launcher from a different location and importing the patch from the launcher. Thanks for your attention.

In the meantime, we suggest you try running the "Eve Online Launcher" shortcut as administrator (through right-click). If that doesn't work, try to use repair.exe to update your client.
Dear Dev
Just followed your suggestion and both the shortcut and the repair.exe still didn't work and popped the same message, apparently these files (launcher.exe and repair.exe) wont be able to patch other files in the same directory while their processes are active.

What do you mean multiple installs? In the game directory i have the "EVE Online Launcher.exe" shortcut and the "repair.exe" file, i turned the "Run as Administrator" option on, both of them still pop this message when executed: "The EVE Online launcher cannot update a directory from which processes are running. I got an idea. De-patch 1.5 an launch it only after proper beta testing and complete fixing, without making us waste our paid game time troubleshooting your game. I mean am i gonna get a free Plex? or am i going to get paid for being in the EVE troubleshooting team? Sounds good no? |

Don't get me wrong I know you just don't come up with a solution like poof right away. But atleast let us know what's going on and if you are going to let us patch manually or we have to wait it out. We're aware of the transient permissions errors that users are receiving while attempting to patch. This is something that we're actively looking into, and will deploy a fix as soon as one is available. Thanks for your patience.
I am also Win7 x64 user and also still waiting on a working patch (after failed attempts to patch manually or through the launcher, with Run as Administrator option off and on) . The link you provided for the fixed 1.06 launcher ( http://cdn1.eveonline.com/349998/evepremiumpatch349998.exe) does not seem to be working either, or is currently overflowed. I understand it takes some time for you guys to fix the issues for the win7 x64 users, but i also hope you can make it up to us for our lost game time. |

Not to excuse CCP for failing to fix issues pointed out to them in testing, but really, threatening to quit makes you look like a whiny child. Stomping your feet and crying won't make them work any harder on the issues they're already working on.
I think everyone but you has understood that the point is not that they aren't working on the issues. but should have worked on them BEFORE they launched the patch, not after. You should really try to understand the meaning of your slogan and maybe provide players with some game they can log on to entertain themselves or give them the money they paid for the subs instead of making yourself look so wise. |

The issue you are experiencing has nothing to do with 64 bit support. There are currently 37 000 players online TQ, a lot of them are running on a 64 bit OS. What you are experiencing is something else. Have you tried rebooting your computer and then without starting any eve client or anything else, run the repair tool. The reason why you will have to reboot is to make sure that there are no locked files from other programs. Please let me know how that works for you.

LOL really? no it doesnt, it just poped the message saying that repair.exe or launcher.exe could not patch the game directory while files inside it (launcher.exe and repair.exe) are in use. thats the paradox.
but i just deleted all the files in the cache folder and now ran repair.exe, it seems to be downloading a new patch. will see if that works for me

Ok, dear DEVs I am going to write this procedure again, and i hope you understand that i have done exactly what i said:
After Clearing the patches stored in the bin\cache folder i restarted the computer
Logged into win7 x64 and, WITHOUT EXECUTING ANY OTHER PROGRAM I RAN THE REPAIR.EXE which told me that there is a process named REPAIR.EXE inside the directory i am trying to repair. The exact same happened when i ran the LAUNCHER.EXE, saying i cannot patch the game directory while the process LAUNCHER:EXE is running and located inside the game folder. BOTH files have the "Run as Administrator option ON".
Then i ran the Exefile in the eve\bin folder and the client started. Downloaded a new patch (evepremiumpatch349998) and looped thorugh the patching process again, booting the launcher and giving me the same error process in use inside game folder message.
So my question here is: Do you think it would work for us win7 x64 users if you guys put the repair.exe and the launcher.exe somewhere else NOT inside thew game folder? Seems like a good idea releasing a patch with that fix huh? |

The best thing you can do right now to stop giving people a bad image about yourself is to give us a working patch as soon as possible and compensate us with real or ingame money for our loss.
To people bruised by this epic failed patch: we need to gather up and demand for compensation and while you're at it, go to http://www.hirezstudios.com/hirezwp/ , download the Hi-Rez Command game launcher, run it on your Win7 x64 without restarting your computer or killing or moving any processes or files and watch how a Georgia software (which apperently is where CCP got this new launcher from) launcher works in perfection and launches awesome mmorpg and action games without monthly subscritption fees attached, |

workaround for players experiencing problems with the eve launcher reported by CCP Navigator | 2012.03.13 19:01:43 | NEW
Cyrillic characters in the EVE install path name cause the EVE Launcher to throw an error and not continue with patching the client. We are working hard on resolving this issue and will publish an update with instructions once it is out.
There is currently a workaround that people can use in the meantime:
A) Move the EVE client to a folder which does not contain any Cyrillic characters in the path name.
B) Start the repair tool and let it run, go into the client folders bin directory and start ExeFile.exe.
My current client directory is "C:\[]games[]\Steam\steamapps\common\eve online\". Is that any of those chars Cyrillic? Also, i have moved the folder to "C:\" and to "C:\Program Files\" "C:\Program Files(x86)", always getting the same error message to check the error log file in the cache folder. Neither the repair tool or the launcher will work. |

Hey guys, i recently have demanded CCP to compensate everyone who is having or had had trouble with the new EVE Crucible 1.5 release, namely losing game and real life time time because of CCP's incompetense and reckless lack of proper testing and troubleshooting before release. Someone in other costumer assistance forum thread tried to shut me up, so im making this viral and i hope everyone of you who got deprived of the game time they paid for is with me on this, signs this and demands CCP to compensate them with added game time to their accounts too.
Endeavor Starfleet wrote: And no you can't "demand" anything. Especially a PLEX. This is not a contract and you are not guaranteed service
well, lets take a look at what EVE EULA has to say about that
EVE-« Online END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT
Chapter 10. LICENSE
Paragraph E
E. New Releases of the Software You are not entitled to receive any new releases of the Software, or any expansion packs, updates, upgrades or similar products under the EULA, but CCP may, in its sole discretion, offer any or all of the foregoing to you. CCP may update, upgrade or otherwise enhance the Software at any time, in its sole discretion, without obligation to you. Periodically, CCP will require all users to migrate to new releases of the Software in order to continue accessing the System and playing EVE. You will be informed when a new release is available and will have a period of time in which to procure and install the new release. You must install and use the new release before the period of time has lapsed to continue accessing the System and playing EVE. If you fail to install the new release when required, CCP shall not be responsible in any way for your inability to access the System or play EVE, and you shall not be entitled to receive a refund of any prepaid subscription fees or any other form of compensation. New releases could be offered to you at a discounted price.
Now lets highlight these parts here:
"You will be informed when a new release is available and will have a period of time in which to procure and install the new release."
- Hum, ok, we did get informed of the new Crucible 1.5 release
"You must install and use the new release before the period of time has lapsed to continue accessing the System and playing EVE. If you fail to install the new release when required, CCP shall not be responsible in any way for your inability to access the System or play EVE, and you shall not be entitled to receive a refund of any prepaid subscription fees or any other form of compensation."
- Well I did fail to install the new release when required, not because I downloaded it only after a long period of time after it came out, but because CCP enforced an update full of bugs with a new launcher system that did not work on my operative system and only released another one that worked (using some workaround tricks that they did not mention) one day later, causing me to be more then one day offline.
Now, when the EULA states here that CCP shall not be responsible in any way for my inability to acess the System or play EVE and I shall not be entitled to compensations, it means to be that way IF I AM THE RESPONSIBLE FOR NOT ACCESSING THE GAME ON TIME, which is not the case. IT WAS CLEARLY CCP'S FAULT THAT I LOST MORE THAN 1 DAY OF GAME TIME BY RELEASING OS INCOMPATIBLE AND BUGGED, UNFINISHED SOFTWARE AND MAKING ITS INSTALLATION AND USE MANDATORY TO ACCESS THE SYSTEM.
Thus we may obviously conclude that in this case CCP is in obvious compensation debt for all of those who lost game time, and believe me, now that you brought it up again, I am not staying quiet on this, ITS GOING VIRAL, everyone bruised is gonna sign this and demand compensation. |

CCP shall not be responsible in any way for your inability to access the System
Now if they only changed that EULA sentence to: "CCP shall not be responsible in any way for ITS OWN INABILITY TO TEST AND MAKE UPGRADES WORK BEFORE RELEASE and not letting clients access the System."
Wouldnt that make you happy?
keep playing corporate ass kisser, i think your almost getting promoted lol

Heh... I'm a software developer myself and I know quite well how tedious and difficult is to write code. However, this kind of mistake should never make it pass QA. Stuff like special chars in the path of the installation or 'misplacing' the settings are things that should be checked for each and any release. To be honest, this kind of 'mistake' would get people fired at the company I'm working for. I'm not saying this should happen here, but the fact those problems show up every patch or three is not normal either.

hey PryMary, I have seen your post saying your launcher's still not working on win7 x64, i'd like to help you and the other win7 x64 users with the same problem, if i can, since my launcher and client are running on mine.
What i had to do with the help of CCP DEV Donut Golem was download the latest patch "evepremiumpatch350962" and the latest launcher version http://cdn1.eveonline.com/350962/EVEOnlineLauncherInstaller.exe when they became available, had to relocate the game folder to a path that did not contain any brackets or other uncommon characters, since the launcher still did not patch directories containing those, and then install both the patch and the launcher, make sure you have the "Run as Administator" option ON on your new launcher.exe, repair.exe and eve.exe. Run launcher.exe to start patching the client.
This worked for me and put my client back up after about 1 day and 6 hours of game time lost |

petition sent, write your name at the bottom if you want to get reimbursed too:
Dear CCP and EVE Online Costumer Support
I come hereby represent the interests of a large group of EVE Online costumers that, following the reckless way CCP conducted the last game update "EVE Online: Crucible 1.5" on Tuesday the 13th of March, were deprived of a service they paid for, and want the game time they have lost back to their accounts as a mean of compensation. For this right of reimbursement, i will invoke the chapter 6 of the End User License Agreement signed between EVE-« Online and all the costumers that access the System:
EVE-« Online END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT
"Chapter 6.TERMINATION; SUSPENSION OF ACCOUNT
A. By CCP for Termination of the Game CCP does not guarantee that it will continue to offer access to the System or support the Game. CCP may, in its sole discretion, cease to provide any or all of the services offered in connection with EVE (including access to the System and any or all features or components of the Game), terminate the EULA, close all Accounts and cancel all of the rights granted to you under the EULA. CCP may communicate such termination to you upon 30 days notice in any of the following manners: (i) when you log into your Account; (ii) in a notice on CCP's website; (iii) via electronic mail; or (iv) in another manner that CCP deems suitable to inform you of the termination. If CCP terminates the EULA pursuant to this section, you will not receive a refund of prepaid subscription fees. "
By interpreting this chapter of the document, we can conclude that CCP can shut down the entire game when they want to, and not compensate its users for any prepaid subscription fees. However, to be in that right it must have communicated to the costumers that same event with the minimum of thirty (30) days of anticipation, by any of those means stated above.
Now, i do not believe neither I or any other EVE user has seen any announcement or notification anywhere 30 days before they were deprived of access to the System.
I also believe that according to International and Iceland national laws, the failure to fulfil that agreement will present CCP with the obligation to compensate its costumers with the value of each day of service they would have to get during the 30 day notification anticipation period, i.e. in this case we will have to get the value of a full plex (30 days) because there was no warning whatsoever that we would lose access to the game.
We costumers are not in any way responsible for the lack of competence of the CCP staff, and feel very insulted by the CCP staff's arrogance and the disrespect for user rights shown by them for making us troubleshoot their software at our expense instead of taking the time and work to properly test it and making it fully operational before release.
Therefore we demand compensation on the game time lost on all our costumer accounts.
With the best regards and hopes that CCP will act in good will and gives back to its players what was unrightfully taken away from them,

If i was an aeronautical engineer i surely would be a great fan of EVE too, since the game's engine physics really represent the real Newton physics laws, like, our ships do not break like they are using some kind of air brakes and then assume a hoovering position like they are a helicopter, because in space the only way to brake is applying a force (thrust) in the opposite movement direction, they do not speed down after you turn off an afterburner (LOL) because in space there isn't something called friction, we do not hear sounds because in space there is no air and thus no sound propagation, our ships do get attracted to celestials due to their gravity force and we float inside space stations because there is no gravity there.
Man i can see the thrill and how a great experience EVE can be to an aeronautical engineer LOL |

Sent - 3/21/2012 1:10:00 PM I am sorry but as I stated earlier we will not be giving you 30 days of game time or any additional compensation. From looking at your account I also see you have been connecting daily since that patch and at no point did we stop offering access to EVE Online. A daily downtime or patch deployment is not discontinuation of service mentioned there.
You are welcome to disagree with this however you will not be given 30 days of game time for the patch deployment and this decision is final. As you are discussing this as a legal matter this petition will now be closed as will any future petition regarding this matter. Please let us know if there's anything we can assist you with in the future. Take care and fly safe.
