Did they think we would not notice. (Prices taken from a well known CCP approved GTC reseller)
Old outgoing 90 day GTC : $38.85 =($12.95 for 30 days = $25.90 for 60 days)
Old outgoing 30 day GTC : $14.95 =($29.90 for 60 days)
New incoming 60 day GTC : $34.99
Should the new 60 day card not be around $27.00?

Dollar is losing quite a bit of value, hence lost revenue for CCP which operates in Iceland (CCP HQ) and London (Servers).
Methinks if we look at this revaluation CCP will be charging roughly the same they were at release plus accounting for inflation.

What if the dollar went up to twice of its current value? CCP would halve their prices? No? Thought not.

However if it the Dollar goes down (like it is now) CCP must raise the prices or switch to a stronger currency (euro), as opposed to making a net loss due to a weaker currency being used than where they are based out of.

CCP's base currency is in Euro's. The value of the dollar has nothing to do with it and the Euro is still quite strong at 1.22 Euro to the GBP. They have simply given us a price hike of around about 3 Euro's per month (if you bought the old 90 day cards) over the course of the year that's 36 Euros ($62 or there about)
Old 90 Day Cards: 24.60 Euros
New 60 Day Cards: 22.62 Euros
60 Day Cost per Month: 11.31 Euros
90 Day Cost per Month: 8.20 Euros
This makes sense if you're CCP as buying GTC's now is almost at the same level as buying it directly through the monthly payment system. However, CCP is now no longer the one of cheapest MMO out there (now it's one of the most expensive). This is bound to affect the new player base and make a large difference in the GTC for ISK market.

Second Edit: I realise I say that the value of the dollar has no bearing on prices. Ok that strictly isn't true, however, your prices will change locally and not globally.

Holy ****, 60 days for $34? Wait, why am I buying 50.day cards for Ç30 again? Oh yeah, my **** bank won't give me a credit card due to lack of consistent income source. You yanks quit *****ing about the prices NOW. The dollar is worth **** all, get used to it.

Problem with that attitude is that us Yanks make up a lot of the playerbase of quite a few MMO's
I'm sure if CCP just said screw the Yanks we want all accounts to be paid in relation to GPB at current dollar unit values, there would be a lot of account cancellations...
More ppl in the USA are turning away from traveling to places like the UK & Europe, instead we buy crap made in China that stocks the Wal-Mart shelves.
I may be wrong, but EVE is not a Wal-Mart brand.
Will be interesting to see what happens to CCP's account numbers throughout the recession in the USA. We have at least another year to go b4 we start pulling out of this...
Luckily, EVE isn't one of the MMO's where the majority of subscribers are Americans.
