Permission issues:
If you are getting a permission error that looks like this:
Quote:Exception during UpdaterModule.Update Traceback (most recent call last): File "lib\update.pyc", line 527, in Update File "lib\update.pyc", line 576, in _Update File "lib\update.pyc", line 304, in Run File "zsync\zsync.pyc", line 1419, in ApplyPatch File "zsync\zsync.pyc", line 1411, in ApplyPatch WindowsError: [Error 32] The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process: 'C:\\Program Files (x86)\\CCP\\EVE\\resDX9CaldariShips01.stuff'
Fix:
CCP Donut Golem wrote:Just to update everyone on the situation:
We're aware of the permissions issues plaguing some of our users. We're actively working on a fix for this.
In the mean-time, please do the following: 1. Restart your computer 2. Run the Repair Tool without starting any other EVE-related process (ie Client, Launcher, etc) beforehand. 3. Navigate to EVE/bin/ and run ExeFile.exe directly. 4. Please reply to this thread confirming this work around, if it is, in fact, successful.
A few caveats about this approach. If you encounter permission errors on files during the Repair process, they may not have been completely updated to their latest versions. Therefore, you may not be running a completely sane client, but you might be able to get in-game.
Thank you for bearing with us while we sort these issues out. Associate Technical Producer - Core Technology Group |

This didn't fix anything, my repair tool only gives me errors after running a little bit.
When I run the game it tells me "file not found: C:\prog files........EvE\bin\_pyfreetypeP.dll" |

How about this:
1. Download the latest repair tool http://cdn1.eveonline.com/client_repair/345/repair.exe 2. Drop into the client folder 3. Run it
Make sure you don't have any other EVE related processes running in the background. Associate Technical Producer - Core Technology Group |

I hope I can do something about this; My skill queue ends in 12 hours and I don't want to have to download the entire client again. I had to do it for the crucible patch since neither the update nor the repair tool worked.
The logs are here. (Pastebin link for both patch_win.exe.log and repair.exe.log)
I'm not sure what to do now. |

After completely wiping the Eve install and all directories, I did a complete reinstall of the client last night.
I was able to launch the game ONLY upon going into the bin directory and launching the game executable from within that folder.
So as expected another client update ran after downtime today. Of course I was unable to get it.
I ran the repair tool after making sure it was updated.
This is the output from repair.exe.log
Exception in thread Thread-2: Traceback (most recent call last): File "threading.pyc", line 530, in __bootstrap_inner File "threading.pyc", line 483, in run File "zsync\readFromUrl.pyc", line 117, in DownloadPart File "zsync\readFromUrl.pyc", line 136, in _DownloadPart File "zsync\zsync.pyc", line 762, in callback FileSyncError: data corruption

I just want to point out that if CCP had taken the time to fix this issue when it was mentioned on Sisi back in January when it was repeatedly mentioned by myself and others, we would not be here right now.
The launcher was not ready. This patch should have been rolled back yesterday when all these problems started instead of forcing people like myself to not be able to play the game for extended periods due to QA failures by CCP.
How about a fix for this today or roll back the launcher and give us the old style manual patching system back. |

The repair tool will write down the log as it goes in the white box. Just copy paste that here. It can in addition to this tell you that there is a logfile under a temp directory. Without clicking OK on the error, go to this temp directory and open the log. Associate Technical Producer - Core Technology Group |

My launcher appears to load just fine, but the patch process itself just doesn't work. It'll load the same file over and over again:
(1/3): Creating EVE_Online_344784-350962.patch
up to 15%, then jumps to 25%, then restarts at 0%, and keeps doing it over and over. Repair file doesn't change anything, neither does rebooting or disabling the AV software. |

I have the same problem - disconnects internet access at 15%. Additionally, patch_win process run by the repair tool also does this at stage 6/7 of the repair....
Not impressed, especially after the debarcle of actually trying to get the launcher yesterday... 3 hours wasted. |

Do not disable protocol filtering.
Add exceptions for the launcher, repair tool and for the eve executable for the moment.
Disabling it completely leaves your system open for compromise. |

This workaround applies to any firewall / AV package that does protocol filtering and any router that has SPI filtering enabled.
CCP should not be using a transport protocol that streams the client as it does in this case.

In order to get my launcher to load I had to delete the file:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE\launcher\cache\settings.yaml"
This was after getting the canned petition email (containing an error log that listed that file on the 4th line) which led me to this generic page. I got tired of waiting for a working answer and decided to play around with deleting files, because it was already broken.
If you get a big long error when trying to start the launcher that starts with
Quote:Frame __init__ in lib\userSettings.pyc at line 15: default = None self = settingsFile = u'C:\\Program Files (x86)\\CCP\\EVE\\launcher\\cache\\settings.yaml' Frame DeSerialize in lib\userSettings.pyc at line 40: self = self.default = None self.settingsFile = u'C:\\Program Files (x86)\\CCP\\EVE\\launcher\\cache\\settings.yaml' self.usingInfoDefaults = False Frame load in yaml\__init__.pyc at line 69: Loader = stream = Frame __init__ in yaml\loader.pyc at line 34: self = stream = Frame __init__ in yaml\reader.pyc at line 85:
then this might work for you too. |

This is really aggravating, I've been asking you guys on three different threads for any word on the mac client for more than 24 hours now and have not even received the courtesy of a "hold on, we're looking into the reason why no one can play eve on a macbook today".

So here's an update from my side.
After I got too upset with that rubbish you refer to as "launcher", I decided to try and reinstall the entire client. I downloaded the installer, launched it ... error. Took it an entire 6 seconds to fail the installation right there; "Your EVE Online installer has failed because of download problems or corrupt data".
Okay then, let's see about the offline installer. Went back to the download page and grabbed the executable and the 2 payloads. Download went down smoothly, as did the installation. Launched the game, and it automatically started patching the launcher. Mhm, so far so good. Then the game doesn't launch. Wtf ? I manually try and launch the game ... error. Cannot launch the executable due to an incompatibility with your 64 bit operating system.
Right..? Since when has that ever been an issue? So there - just for a second - I thought I was the idiot there, and went back to the download page to check if maybe I had selected a 32-bit-only installer or whatever. lol, it's not even mentioned on the System requirements page, and there's no alternative download links anyways.
Ok, looking for other options, and I notice that the launcher has a feature to directly inject a patch file. Aha, let's give that a try then, I thought ... only to find my hopes shattered when I find out that the offline patch files are no longer available, cause we now have the most awesome of all awesomest launchers! Then why the fukc even give the launcher the option if you won't provide the damn patch files anyways?!?!
So here I am now, 4 hours later. The old installation won't launch cause it can't patch by any means known to mankind, and the new installations are corrupted from the start. I try to be a reasonable person, but here I must admit that I am started to get really pissed off about how EvE's been treating me. Do you guys think it's normal, that after every other larger patch a full re-installation of the game is required to be able to play again (and now, not even that works anymore) ? I consider myself a knowledgeable person when it comes to computer stuff, but this is starting to become ridiculous. Also, I am not interested in the 37000 people who managed to log on tonight. During a crisis, nobody cares about the tens of thousands that lived, but only about the few dozens that have died. |
