Ive done this. Multiple times after cleaning my entire SSD of anything eve related and starting over as if I am a new player, having never played eve before and downloading the game for the first time.
I continue to get this error. If I try to run the "repair" tool.. it just deletes everything and makes me start over once again.

So last night I downloaded the update, and all was well. Got into the game etc etc...everything was just dandy!
Then I decided to relog, and all is decidedly NOT well. The launcher refuses to acknowledge that I am connected to the Internet. The client woks just fine if I use the .exe file in the bins folder (which tip I found here on this thread, thanks) but the launcher is dead in the water.

I found a workaround for the stuck "downloading launcher update" issue some have been experiencing. It may (or may not) help with other issues too. Either way it's worth a shot should all else fail.
The downside is that it requires you have a test server install laying around, otherwise your boned.

I've reinstalled windows after wiping my ssd, losing over 180gb of games and data, all for you. I've completely re-updated Win7, set my box up properly and now I get a running process with nothing happening.

That's because you're continually starting the older EVE Launcher (2.2.859950) probably because you've pinned it to your task bar. That version has been half updated to the newer, download-on-demand capable version, and thus the certificates used to connect to the server have been moved and that connection can't be validated.

Had the same issue, Un-Pinning the launcher and reinstalling it fixed the problem for me.
CCP, I'd suggest putting a link to the launcher reinstall somewhere in the launcher itself. Having to look in a 3 year old forum thread to find the solution to this morning's new problem is not exactly straight-forward.

Im losing patience.
Does anyone have any suggestions to getting this game to run after a fresh install of windows AND the launcher / repair tool / etc.
I get the exefile running but nothing happens and it doesnt respond. My processes show it running, but nothing is happening and I can't see EVE.
I run rechache.exe and it says I have 0 corrupted files, but wants to download the 7+GB of game data if I choose yes. I choose yes and it randomly freezes up anywhere between 751 files and 1061 files.
I have run the repair tool on MANY occasions and ALL it ever does is delete the folder, where I end up just patching again, and Im back to the same issue.
I am on the verge of getting on my friends box and completely selling off every character I own, giving him the isk, and being done with the game for good. I don't understand how every single option that Ive had to DIG UP from these forums is not working correctly and there are only mild suggestions given... YES I tried your suggested launcher. YES I downloaded the 2 different repair tools you provided weeks ago. YES I ran recache and found no corrupted files. YES I formatted everything on my SSD drive, reinstalled windows, updated the box, tried to play like a brand new customer to your game, and nothing works correctly. I've spent $200 in data trying to play this. I spent 12+ hours digging on these forums for a fix. Half the time EVE isn't even listed in my programs to uninstall and try again.. but the folders are there, so i have to go digging around deleting them to try "fresh" for the 1,000th time. Just now, for some damn reason I have the entire EVE folder in x86, AND my downloads folder.. wtf? I'm losing patience. |

I ran the installer KB and still the launcher says I don't have it? SO many problems, Im not sure this is all worth the time and effort. I'm losing patience.

Yea, Ive been dealing with it for 3 days now myself. I'm able to get in the game ONLY if I run the launcher as an administrator and every single time I relog I lose my entire overview/UI/shortcut settings. Everything.
If I run it normally I get this giant popup window that says "exception" with a long string on HTML that I'm not allowed to post here on the forums.
Also.. There is NO eve game registered in my programs lists under control panel, no EVE shown under start menu, Launcher for eve did not auto install to my desktop, and I had to dig around on my C drive to get a shortcut placed.
I'm scared to run the repair tool because for the past 2 days, everytime I did.. it deleted the entire game and made me download the 7GB again, and again, and again.
I have yet to see an official posts other than "try this launcher" or "try downloading this repair tool"... even though lots of folks are having issues. |

Here are all the things I've tried and that have failed with, as login error message; "Could not connect to the specified address. Odds are that you have not established an internet connection, the server isn't running, or the server address or port number was wrong." in the exefile client login window. On each of the steps undertaken below, I've tried to connect with both launcher and exefile in the bin folder.

- I tried to log a couple times yesterday and the day before without success.
- I tried repairing the client. This did not work, the result was a broken launcher (stuck at some point during the download for hours)
- I downloaded the regular installer from the main download page and did a fresh install, the same issue persists with the quoted error above as result.
- I have cleared the cache as well as uninstalled EVE along with the deletion of all related folders, then installed by downloading the offline installer and payloads. This was to no avail.
- As a last attempt, I installed the new launcher mentioned here:
I was elated when it actually started updating properly, but, disappointingly, again no success.
Any suggestions, CCP, ISM, colleagues? |

I am still having the launcher freeze problem every time a new patch is sent out. Ever since the new downloader came out I have been having a lot of problems. I can get it to work by re downloading everything, "repair tool" etc, but it keeps happening. |

Just came home and patched the client, press play and nothing happens. Updated the drivers, cleared the chache, ran repair tool - nothing. eve exe runs in process manager. any ideas? |

Same thing in south Georgia, I am thinking the ISPs are doing some kind of tragic shaping down here or one of the local EVE servers (Georgia Tech?) is unreliable.
Repair client is CRAWLING at 176 B /s... yes that is Bytes per second.

Oregon here, also being royally screwed by EVE. Launcher won't work and takes forever to download the patch (as in, 8 hours). Before I could at least play a few hours by wiping an reinstalling, waiting for the patch, then playing. Now however the patch won't finish (got stuck at 90%) and I'm quite frustrated. I paid my sub the day before all this started happening, have lost about 12 hours of skill training, and am frankly feeling like starting EVE was a mistake.
Every work around I can think of has been stopped by you at CCP as if you want players to have huge headaches while trying to play your game - why did you remove manual patch support? At least then I could try to login more than once every EIGHT HOURS. Why does the repair tool patch to the PREVIOUS version of the launcher and force the update to download all over again? People tell me EVE is over 10 years old - I find this almost hard to believe with the level of incompetency going on. |

I'm running the very latest version of the launcher: 2.2.871481
Every day it's a guessing game if the launcher will act up after downtime or not.
When it misbehaves: - Doesn't get to a "client ready" state - Progress bar along the bottom is grey, not yellow. - Logging in displays a greyed out play button, not yellow. - Closing the launcher, letting it unload completely from memory and re-launching it does not resolve the problem.
Resolution tends to come an hour to two later when suddenly the launcher is working again. No explanation, no rhyme or reason why.
During problems with the launcher, as long as the build matches what's on the servers, my game client (exefile.exe) launches, and I can log in successfully and play.
I've learned to hate the launcher due to this unreliability.

Every Update the only fix for the Offline Mode is to completely uninstall and reinstall the game and its been happening every update for the last year it feels like. I just wanted to say something because I've read other people having the same issue and wanted to voice it. |

Client has been stuck in offline mode for 2+ days now, but at least the .exe method was working until the patch officially released. Tried deleting cache, tried repair tool (kept crashing/freezing), tried running things as admin, nothing. using the link above was at least able to patch the client, but now the client throws exceptions when I launch it with a bar at the bottom saying 0 of 0 bytes downloaded. Oh well, at least the .exe method works again.
TL;DR CCP please stop tinkering, launcher worked much more reliably before switch to download-on-demand |
