They get about 4000 shots each. T2 crystals last about 1000 shots. -------------------- ICE Blueprint Sales FIRST!! -Yipsilanti Pfft. Never such a thing as a "last chance". ;) -Rauth |

For reference, faction crystals last for exactly 4000 shots, since they take a certain (small) amount of damage every time they are fired. T2 crystals are more variable, because there is a 10% chance they take 1% damage every shot - so while the average lifespan is 1000 shots you can never be sure exactly when they'll burn out. In theory it can be as little as 100 shots or even infinite.
The important difference is that you can plan exactly when your faction crystals will break, and they will all do so at exactly the same time. T2 crystals can be a bit more troublesome because of their unpredictability.

I must object. Though there is a tiny tiny chance the crystals will last for any finite amount of shots, it is impossible for them to last an infinite amount of shots due to the way the chances work; eventually it will get to 100% damage.

Actually, that is wrong, depending on how you look at it.
If crustals got a 10% chance to take damage, then they got a 10% chance to take damage after each shot, but that doesn't mean the crystals will take damage at all. It is easier to word this if I use a 10 sided dice instead of crystals.
Every time you cast the dice, there is a 10% chance it will land with the 1 facing up, but the chance of a 1 landing up, is always 10% regardless of what the result of the last throw was. So you can cast a die, and it will land with the 10 side up for a hundred years straight. However, yo can't say that if you cast it a unlimited ammount of times, for a unlimited ammount of years, it will land with the 10 side up.
So basically, because the way T2 crystals work (as far as I know), you can buy a set of crystals today, and still be able to shoot them when you die of old age (assuming you are playing eve until then), and you can buy a set of crystals and loose them after fireing a hundred shots.

Your explanation wasn't very clear to me, but I think I got the point and I don't think you're grasping the concept of "infinite" fully. In an infinite series of events, anything which has a non-zero chance of occurring will occur an infinite amount of times! The chance of the crystals taking damage in non-zero, so it will happen infinitely often, whereas it happening only 100 times will be enough to destroy the crystal. 100 is less than infinity, so when firing infinite shots the crystal will be destroyed.

When you die of old age still only a finite amount of time has passed in which you can have fired only a finite amount of shots. It would fall in the "any finite amount of shots" I mentioned.

Point taken; though I was phrasing sloppily. More specifically, there is no integer that acts an an upper limit on the number of shots one can obtain from a crystal - so in this sense the upper limit for the number of shots fired from a single crystal is "infinity". Though you are also correct; part of the breakdown of traditional concepts when doing something an infinite number of times.
But yeah, 1000 shots give or take.
