Edited by: Xenome on 28/06/2008 05:31:54 After installing and getting the Nvida drivers to download so i get the 1920x1200 screen. I install EvE but the gfx is realy crap, its like when under windows if i take direcx or open Gl driver settings and turnes everything to performance. Realy bad rendering. Pluss i only get the option to tun in full screen, not to open it in windows mode for multi account flying.
My system is a Dell XPS m1710 laptop with Nvida 7950gtx card.
Im noob to Linux and this is my first try ever. Hoping to get better performance. Any ideas?

Edited by: Trelos K''Maniakos on 28/06/2008 11:17:32 well i m not trying to insult ubuntu or something but some things are facts Ubuntu.. yes it's a good distro to begin to see what linux "might" be like but it doesn't give u the full potential of linux u can't learn what linux is with ubuntu , if u understand what i m trying to say
well first of all i m gonna ask u one question:
Are u running the client u downloaded from CCP here or using wine+ windows eve client?
(i suggest the latter cause the native client right now is worse-dunno for the future) ofc course u should know that wine+windows eve client is not supported by CCP although it runs better
Ask that question first and then let's go step by step And dont give up on linux u ll learn to use it ;) takes some time to get used to it as it's NOT windows :) (p.s. wine is a "program" that makes it possible to run windows programs if u dont know :P - www.winehq.org) ---------------------------

I'm running eve from the downloaded linux version from eve-online. So you think i should use wine? How is the performance as thats what im looking for. To get better performance during mass ops and such.
And what is the possible best linux client to use with eve?
Thanx Xenome

as a linux beginner stay with ubuntu for now till u wanan try another "advanced" distro Ubuntu is fine from what i know , and yeah i suggest wine personally the performance from many opinions is that the windows client + wine is much mor better + u have some features of premium content for instructions on how to setup EVE u ll find them in the AppDB of app.wine.org check Eve installation HowTO there

Sorry, I'm a Linux sysadmin and I really don't understand how Ubuntu has less potential. |

What distro do you use? I have been using linux since 2002(Red Hat 2.0 for those of you that remember it). I have tried most and personally think Ubuntu is one of the best. It automates a lot of stuff for you which doesn't help new people learn how it works ... but then again its hard to find a distro that doesnt these days.
Back to the question ... use wine ... eve linux client has too many bugs.

Agreed, I started using linux on Fedora core 3, and have been using ubuntu since 7.10. Ubuntu is a perfectly acceptable distro.
As for eve, agreed use Wine. Although saying that, I did run the Cedega client (from CCP) and the only issue I had was dodgy avatar pictures.. otherwise worked flawlessly. --------------------------------

sorry for late answer i m using arch linux, i find it more simple to edit some .conf files than use automation . then id feel like using windows :) + ubuntu is quite unstable when it decides it :p. It\s not a bad distro ofc , it s one of the best, but if it decides to get unstable it "wants" a restart sometimes or Xserver restart just like windows :p
Using currently ubuntu on laptop but i feel like changing it to Archlinux too just because it's more stable (like a rock to be precise) --------------------------- If u re looking for a signature u wont find any :) |
