Not sure what the point if this is but, I am board at work so...
Jumpgate is an MMO that predates Eve by several years. If I recall correctly I was in the beta for it back in 1999 or 2000. It did not have a sizable following.
Jumpgate Evolution is the second generation of Jumpgate and is schedualed for beta some time this year. (yes, i am signed up for it.)
The largest advantage with Jumpgate is that your actualy flying your ship. More so your aiming your weapons instead of letting the server do it all. You can and should use a joystick since you can roll and yaw your ship. Additionaly they use newtonian physics so there is no fixed up or down and ou can "turret" your ship by flying in one drection, cutting thrust, then turning your ship to it's target and attacking.
Basicly your looking at a flight sim in space instead of an RTS in space like Eve.
For everyone who wants to fly a nono-ship, they should look into Jumpagete, that way they are playing a game as it's designed instaed of breaking game dynimics to reach the same goal. |

Not sure I'd call EVE an RTS considering you can't control multiple ships. I'd call it an RPG long before I'd call it an RTS.
Anyways, what exactly is the point of this thread. Is the OP asking what the game is (ie: too lazy to google the website and read) or are they commenting on it in some vague way? A few minutes on the website will tell you exactly what Jumpgate is and how it differs from EVE (ie: they see twitch-based combat as a good thing ). |

EVE is like Homeworld minus the multiple ship control, plus a bunch of ******** AI that can't follow your instructions properly (aka players). |

One with dodgy voice recognition.
"Ok, hold on the gate" *sounds of multiple ships jumping* "Who jumped?" *sounds of target locking and weapons fire* "OMG I'M BEING KILLED" *sounds of explosions* "Ok, this op is over"
It's like Homeworld might have been if you're frigates attempted to solo entire fleets solo while some guys in destroyers mined some asteroids miles away. Then the rest of the fleet show up in entirely the wrong ship and die horribly.
Either that or I'm a really bad FC. Prolly that actually. |

Once we have the FPS in stations then we will get full sim ship control. if you have ever seen Firefly, I hope that where we are heading and that will be worth several years of development.

I heard that the largest ship you fly in Jumpgate Evo is the size of a fighter drone. The actual, real piloting skill instead of the time based skilltree, the full track IR support, also sounds exciting. Can't wait to try it out. |

a twitch gamer's wet dream as opposed to a tactical (RTS style mindset) gamer's wet dream, which is eve.

I used to play Jumpgate on the EU server, and it was quite fun. A much much smaller game than EVE, but in its time Jumpgate was one of a few games that dared think big.
Biggest difference: Jumpgate is a joystick game. It requires you to be able to hit stuff by aiming at it
I am sure you can still get a free trial of the old Jumpgate on the US server. If you ever played Elite and privateer, you should try it out. Keep in mind that the game is very old, so dont exepct too much

AHAHAH ! Thanks for that, best laugh I've had in a couple of days.
Sounds just like a heap of the FW gangs I've been in. I'm by no means an uber PVPer (actually, I think I suck at it) but I do have a fair bit of gang experience and I find the FW gangs awesome fun and a lot of that is down to the less experienced people doing stupid stuff, dying horribly (or not), then everyone having a good laugh about it.

but you can't fly anything bigger than a frigate :(
Edit: I should ad I can't wait to play the game :) it's just eve gives us that freedom other games don't. |

When Earth & Beyond died I tried some space MMO, it really sucked though. But like I said I don't know what game it really was.
But I just signed up for beta, I'll never leave EVE but it doesn't hurt to try it |

I can't see many simmilarities beyond spaceships...
But yeah, played the original jumpgate beta back in the day, didn't play release though so don't really know what's happened with it since then.

Slight chance of being fun, but the probability of fail as high since the system will almost certainly be rather dumbed down. If they make it LO:MAC in space complex, I might sign up, just like I'd sign up for an EVE2 in a heartbeat if it were dangerous waters in space. :) |

I wouldn't really consider flight sims to be twitch-based, in the way most FPS is, so only one of you has the correct dscription.

lawls.
On topic: I signed up for the beta to see how it feels. I don't mind playing an eve-like game with a joystick. But nothing could take away EVE at this point. But other games are always fun to try out.

I was excited about JGE at first. I thought it would become an EVE-killer. I was wrong. 100% safe zones? seperate servers? Oh good! Becuase we totally have a shortage of carebear games
