Hello, I have an apoc doing lv'4s atm.. all t2 gear, with T2 mega pulse/scorch... lovly ship, going to upgrade it to a Navy apoc soon i think...
But i only have amarr BS 4 atm.... and have been thinking about the Paladin? (for smapping lv4's) im 100% amarr atm, so no skills to fly a nightmare im affrad
i would need 29days to train BS5, then Maruder (and heard its not worth it till atleast lv 4 too) so im look at a long time to train just to up grade from a Navy apoc to Paladin... is it really worth it?
To put some more things in to perspective.. although i want to specilise in amarr BS's... i fancy some pvp, which i havnt done a gr8 deel with.... only a few fun T1 frigate builds and just some 1 on 1's with a m8, and its been really fun! so if i dont train up to a paladin... i could iether go towards assults frigats/intercepters, or even a curse... (which looks really cool.. yeas i have T2 drones, although ill need to traing alot more drone skills if thats want ill aim towards!!)
im finishing off my core skills in the next 4 days.. so kind want to know wot to do after. if any 1 have some hints/tips and or advice.. im all ears!
Thank you for you time.

A navy apoc with mega pulse is decent, I still use one for a couple of missions, but a paladin can fit tachs without too much hassle.
That means you get mega pulse DPS out to 45km with more than sufficient tracking for the generally slow moving NPCs.
The ability to loot and salvage which can bring in up to 10 mil isk per mission without needing to invest any extra time or a second noctis account makes the Paladin a far superior option to any other Amarr ship.

The Marauders are all pretty cool. Especially once you get salvaging V. |

In short: Yes, it is.
In long:
You're going to want to train AWU V anyway because it's awesome. You'll train BS V at some point anyway, as it too, allows you to get the most out of your BS's, plus: Captials.
Marauders up to IV? A few days.
The Marauder skill alone for the increased rep amount and 20% (at IV) extra damage is worth it.
Plus it's an awesome tach boat, with incredibly silly low ammo costs, so using faction crystals is a no brainer.
I'm not sure Marauders V is worth it though unless you're min/maxing. |

ok stupid question..
Tachyon II vs Mega Pulse II... wots the dps comparason?? (iv never used beams) assuming Pulse's would use scortch, and Beams able to use Nav Multi's.. at the same distence?

The Paladin is an incredibly wonderful PVE vessel. It is especially awesome in Drone Space (or Blood Raiders, Sanshas, etc). |

Assuming 3 imperial navy heat sinks.
Paladin with tachs/faction multi: 915 DPS @ 43km optimal (2 TCs with range scripts)
Paladin with mega pulse/scorch: 772 DPS @ 58km optimal (2 TCs with range scripts)
I suggest you use EFT to do your own testing. Regards, Mike712 The BattleClinic Team

Paladin is alright. Great if you want to salvage. If you really want to mop up the missions though, you gotta get the Nightmare. If you have shield skills, you can do the frig through BS training in Caldari in way less time than it would take for Amarr BS V. If you lack shield skills, though, I'd go with the Paladin. |

For the cost, the Nightmare is totally worth it. (not entirely much more ISK than paladin these days)
I have a Mare, (w/ beams) and will likely never get a paladin b/c Mare kills stuff soo much better...and its named Trogdor, so there's no switching now.
As for salvage use for the Paladin, just bm and use a stinkin noctis, it will take you 1/4 of the time and is alot less hassle for those 80km kills. |

****, you too? Now I have to wonder just how many spikey, vertical Trogdors are out there....
One thing about the Paladin that hasn't been explicitly mentioned yet in this thread is that it alone of the Marauders has its damage bonus on the Marauders skill. This means that it actually takes more skilling time to get a Paladin up to max damage than a Nightmare, and even starting with marginal shield skills it's close.
Honestly I haven't tried the Paladin despite having Marauders 5. I've just been too happy with my Nightmare and skeptical of any fits I've been able to throw together -- or at least any fits that don't rely so much on faction/deadspace gear that it doesn't seem worthwhile. |

Seeing as you fly with xxxDEATHxxx you\re going to end up in drone lands. I myself have been in that or related gang fro few monthc few years back ratting drones.
it was mentioned allready by someone that drones hate paladins. was a lovely 9 month old (young) player back then and i loved paladin.. or the idea of paladin so much that i reached paladin before being able to fit t2 tank. *meaning paladin in under 13mil SP... thats lunacy.. but oh well....
And i really dont regret any month long skills to get there. I did use paladin in 0.0 and it farms those drones so well. + it has massive cargo as a marauder and tractors and webbs.. so the ratting effort is really minimal.
Marauders IV is when pally really starts to show teeth.. at lvl 1-3 its no different from tach baddon. or atleast you wont get it.
but for future reference.. there\s one more lvl5 skill that makes the paladin really really shine with bright light of all amarr and holy. its Marauders level 5. that 35 days alone is worth as much as marauders 1-4 was.

The toon im flying lv4's with is not this toon (although i should have posted with him..) so im in highsec, and not in xxDEATHxx...
Thanks to every1 for reading and write, didnt help me thou.....
well it did, as no 1 said anything about training other skills (guess i was looking for some 1 to say, "a T2 fitted navy apoc is fine, and you wouldnt gain a gr8 deal of speed in your lv4's... so if ya wont to traing up for a curse/other t2 pvp ship go for it and have fun")
sooo i guess if im specilizing in lv'4s, its worth it.
No shield skills, and no Cal Ship skills... so no nightmare, atm....
Im going to finish of a couple more core/support skills to 5 (only a few left on 4.) then go for BS5.. see where it takes me, unless i get into pvp with my m8... then a few days of SP's in a few pvp skills wouldnt hurt.
thanks all

TBH you dont need epic shield skills to fly a nightmare; you can get away with shield management 1, and tactical shield manipulation to 1 (this will allow you to fit faction/complex hardeners and shield booster)... Then cladari BS to 4 justifies the damage bonus on the nightmare.
The Paladin requires quite a skill investment, but IMO, if you have good gunnery skills and salvaging to 5 you are laughing... A WELL fit (notice; WELL fit) tachyon paladin can perform about aswell as a nightmare AND do the salvaging, although this requires a much greater investmant than what you would be paying into the nightmare.
Additionally, CCP have announced that they are bringing shps in line to where they should be, so while they are fairly imbalanced now compared to the pirate faction ships with regards to skill and isk investment, a revamp is just around the corner, so IMO they are definantly worth perfecting now. |
