Hi there people.
I just stumbled over the MMO Earthrise, which will be released sometime in 2009.
Makes me wonder if this could be an landbased EvE, with territorial warfare, playerdriven economics and non-consentual PvP announced on their website.

I thought he quoted that because of 'an landbased'.

i checked the website and went to wikipedia, the game looks pretty good, although, one thing that kind of worried me was when i saw the "map" of the game universe, im really hoping the map is going to be a reasonable size, i cant stand being cramped in games, lol like grand theft auto or something, that was a reasonable size for a single player game, lol but like i said, i hpe the game is pretty big, other than that, game looks good

Looks like some stupid attempt at another WoW like every other new MMO usually is.

That's the kind of half-assed view I'd expect from someone who looked at the pictures and didn't read any of the text, because otherwise I don't know how you can think that.
Let's see:
- No freaking Elves
- You SP train over time, wether you're online or not, like Eve.
- No classes, just skills, like Eve.
- Global world, no sharded realms.
- painfull pvp, dying will hurt you more than a 20sec trek to your body, and the killer will get either money or equipment from your body.
- Completeley player-driven market.
- territorial control for access to better ressources.
- And, last but not least, no freaking Elves.
No, it doesn't look like a Wow-like. Not at all... ------------------------------------------

Quote: To subscribe to the Earthrise newsletter you simply need to complete the quick and easy registration process on our forums.
And no, this is really not going to be like WOW, hence why I'm looking forward to it.
Reading through the Earthrise-forums for a couple of days now, and it seems, that Earthrise will be some mix of EvE and Ultima Online... atleast a Dev said, thats that where they got inspiration from.
They intend to setup a seemless world with no instances and territorial warfare, whith buildable bases etc. The world itself will be rather big from what you can hear from the interviews.
Key Features: (taken from their website)
- A unique post-apocalyptic setting where the cloned remnants of mankind battle to survive and rebuild. Yet while humanity may have evolved, human nature remains as treacherous as everà
- Highly customizable characters with over 100 different skills, abilities, and tactics. No artificial "class" restrictions get in the way of making the character you want.
- Fast-paced action combat featuring dynamic targeting, customizable power armor, huge mechanized exoskeletons, and hundreds of high-tech weapons.
- Sophisticated Player versus Player (PvP) mechanics that let you fight for the established order, join the revolutionary underground, or carve your own bloody path as an independent criminal.
- Territorial conquest and defense that matters. In your domain, you create your own rules û or let anarchy reign.
- Character progression that keeps you advancing in your career even when youÆre not logged in.
- An advanced market-based economy with in-game supply and demand based on player activities.
- Deep crafting mechanics that let you design and manufacture unique items from customizable blueprints and raw resources.
Sounds pretty good so far, what you can read in their interviews and forums.

Somehow, after reading some of the things on their website, this just comes across as "You can fight for Team A "good guys", Team B "rebels" or take option C and wander around completing missions." No place for things like the powerful corp systems we have in eve, much less alliances and the like.
Still, could be interesting?

Check out "Darkfall". When I first read about it my impression was "Heh, this is EVE taken and put into the fantasy genre."
Then again, it'll probably be utter **** like all the other MMO's that seem to be coming out recently. -_-

Leave it to a mission runner to make such short sided speculations.
EDIT: Looks to have great potential It will allow me to get into a skill/time training system at the ground level

If you are potentiall interested in Darkfall check this forum out. I am part of this group and we are currently trying to get into the Open Beta as a pack. We are choosing to play the wolf characters and be a mercenary group. Bloodpack is the name of the group and tell them Kraygar sent you, that is my chossen name in that game.

Quote: In addition to their skills and abilities gained from adventuring, battling, and crafting, characters can take a "career" that will provide them with cash and other perks. Characters will advance in their career whenever they are offline. You can think of your character's career as their "day job": It's how they make money when they aren't killing mutants or battling in the Outer Territories or experimenting with lost technology. Some of the careers in the game include Holo Artist, Electro Sampler and Zero-T operator
you have to grind skillsbut get money offline so it's the opposite of eve :P

Wrong again if you had looked at the line below that one:
Quote:
Territorial conquest and defense that matters. In your domain, you create your own rules û or let anarchy reign.
I can't remember how exactly the map looks but theres either 2 or 4 starter cities where different races start off. From there you have government controlled area's. Then you head into the wastelands.
In the wastelands you can build bases and form gangs (i.e. corps). Gangs fight for their territory and the resources within it. Builders can learn new technologies and sell their goods but in the major hubs. Starting to sound familiar now?

Exactly what I was thinking. Territorial warfare for playerdriven organizations, with buildable bases etc..
Openworld PvP with full loot, and no stoopid Epic-Items or Level-grinding, but skill-based and with a complex crafting-system.

I'm kinda worried how they'll handle latency issues if its a land-based EVE. From the sound of it, they're going the Tabula Rasa-route of combat systems. -

If you actually game on a Mac I'll pod you. It's 10x worse than Vista. And in reality, vista isn't that bad. Except for the things that don't work...although that's just me and the fact that my computer hates me for putting Vista on it. I tried XP on it and it ended up worse than with Vista. No joke.
