So CCP spends resources it does not have to solve non-problems with Titans, a ship that a tiny percentage of pilots fly.
Meanwhile people try the game and leave in droves because nobody has done anything at all to make a place where they can learn this incredibly complicated game. BUT they have new noob ships to die in.
High sec becomes more violent as people with the boredom threshhold of an ant turn to mackinaw ganking or lurk at hotpoints on the route to Jita to shoot industrials.
Did you ever hear a studly pilot trash talking mackinaws in an ice belt? Is there anything more pathetic than that?
Meanwhile the older players will always own the game because there is no experience cap and new pilots are still expected to start their training at 0, not even the possibility of buying skill points to do some catchup. Because that's Pay to Win. But somehow having 14 accounts and 42 alts is not Pay to Win.
Meanwhile as you age in the game you will find that your opponents are the size of IBM and Microsoft, comparatively speaking, so good luck having any fun outside of high sec.
This game can limp on for a long time exactly the way it is, of course.
CSM does nothing but perpetuate the hold of stupid players on the game. CCP could do a better job on its own. And I'm not talking about preserving this game in its present form. If Star Wars can gain over a million subscribers in a couple of months, wny can't CCP do anything anywhere near that scale?
Is it a crime to make Eve inclusive of players who want casual play and less nasty crap thrown at them? Or do we just keep this game going till there are only 100 little tyrants in the game? Eve needs large large numbers of new players who will actually stay and try to learn this game. That is not happening. |

Maybe because there's millions of Star Wars fans that will play any game branded with Star Wars even if it is terrible. Eve doesn't have the benefit of being able to abuse brand recognition. Took the words right out of my mouth. I bet a million people tried SWG at some point too. Does that game even exist anymore?
Also if the OP got off his lazy ass, and read the dev blogs, he'd know that changes to ship requirements are coming. Soon newbs will be able to get in advanced ships twice as fast. |

Yeah, I was laughing at that too. Especially the part about "So CCP spends resources it does not have". Those tweaks to titans (nerfing XL gun tracking, removing the penalty from siege mods, and nerfing Titan scan res) involve changing exactly 18 numbers in the database; 12 guns tracking speed * 0.5, 2 siege tracking penalty = 0, 4 titans scan res = 5. This change probably took about 10 min tops and a couple hours testing it to make sure that it was working as-intended and didn't screw up Dreads too much or anything. It really isn't that complex. They intentionally made it a very simple tweak that would require little to no developer effort to execute.
And, to the OP, everything else you've mentioned in your post has been discussed to death already in other threads. Eve is working as intended. We don't want to be a huge game with millions of subscribers. Eve is dedicated to those of us who can't stand the padded cells that other MMOs put you in ('protecting' you by limiting the freedom in the game). If you want a MMO to hold your hand and kiss your boo boos, there are plenty of MMOs like that out there. Eve is for the rest of us who can't stand that kind of game, so don't try to change that. No one is forcing you to play Eve and we acknowledge that it isn't for everyone. If you don't like it, find another MMO.
Edit: I'd forgotten about T2 siege mods at first, so there are really 18 numbers total that will need to change. |

These topics really have been done to death, OP.
Regardless of your narrow view of EVE, new players can and do compete with older players all day, erryday.
Once you reach level 5 on a skill whether it be for a ship or a mod, you are on an equal footing with everyone else. It's that simple.
Older players just have a wider choice, it doesn't make them any better.
The only thing the older players have over new players is a better understanding of the game and the game mechanics as a whole. You can't buy that or train for it. You can only gain experience by playing. |

This "whine" is old and still has the same validity it had before, unfortunatly to fix the "issue" would break to many things that make EVE great.
Bored players doing bad things happens in all games, so do not know what to tell you. The best plan tends to make yourself a harder target than the next sucker so they go pick on him.
As to the "can not keep up with the Vets". I believe I have a reasonable perspective on this, I have two alts who can do a lot of things, but not yet near everything. The combat one can fly many cool ships, but in a lot of ship classes he really is not that better than a 6 month pilot, the big difference is I can switch to a different kind of ship. So if you are cooler on the trigger (pretty low bar here) and a more patient in planning (another short hop), you might be able to wipe me out pretty easy with a far younger pilot.
The one big item that veterens tend to forget is how freaking long support skills take, they tell the newbie you can fly x ship in y days, then when newbie get there and says "ship sux" we all yell at him for not having trained 1 year + of engineering, mechanical, electronic, science, drone and sometimes leadership skills.
I am not really sure the new training path is going to help newbies very much since it is going to rob them somewhat the "race to BC" trick at gain a virtual level ground with a just about anyone by gaining pretty rapid access to the excellet teir 2 BC for everyone. It also should increase the always amusing killmails of people losing stuff they have no business flying.
To the OP stick it out the intial frustrations go away soon enough, and you are replaced the every growing "I want this thing" and I need this skill list" (damn treadmill) .

Personal story: I spent the first 2 weeks learning this game on my own before I got picked up by some random vet. I said to myself, "what the hell, why not," joined his corp, got ganked BY the corp a few times (not to mention belittled and pushed around a bit), steeled by resolve, stayed, asked questions, and did my best to PROVE that I could be one of them (despite my lacking skills). They still haven't gotten rid of me... yet.

Because that's Pay to Win. But somehow having 14 accounts and 42 alts is not Pay to Win. You fail to grasp how the skill system actually works if this is what you think.
- All skills cap at level 5. No matter how many years you have played the game, you cannot exceed that limit.
- Only a limited number of skills affect any one ship, module, or weapon system at any given time. Ex: Someone you are facing has about 20 million SP, but how much of that overall SP is actually combat related. He/she could be a HUGE industrial player that just wants to blow off some steam.
- Getting a skill to level 5 from level 4 only adds on an extra 2% here, 5% there. If you simply train up all the skills within a specialty and defer getting them to level 5 until you have/want to, you will find yourself flying at about 80 to 90% of the effectiveness of a multi-year veteran in that specific specialty.
- Getting a skill to level 5 is supposed to be a painful train. Many players (yes, even veteran ones) opt to avoid doing it and instead train up other skills to level 4.
- Ships and weapons have been balanced against one another. Ex: A battleship can instapop a frigate at range... but the frigate can fly very fast, making it difficult for the battleship's weapons to track, especially at very close range... then again, the battleship can deploy drones to deal with the frigate... and the frigate can shoot the drones down... however the battleship might have a Large Energy Neutralizer fitted to nuke the frigate's capacitor every 24 second... in which case the frigate could use a Small Nosferatu that sucks out capacitor every 3 seconds... etc. etc.
Ban Bindy wrote:Meanwhile as you age in the game you will find that your opponents are the size of IBM and Microsoft, comparatively speaking, so good luck having any fun outside of high sec. Pandemic Legion and their supercapital hugglebunnies have recently taken up residence near our base of operations (in low-sec. They have more supercapital pilots than my corp has ACTIVE pilots. Do we complain? Yeah, who wouldn't. Do we stay docked up? Nope. We just fly smaller, more mobile ships that won't warrant PL dropping capitals on us. Doesn't this limit what we can and cannot do? Sure it does, but that's part of the fun! If PL wants a fight with my guys, they're going to have to come down to OUR level... or they won't get a fight at all.

If Star Wars can gain over a million subscribers in a couple of months, wny can't CCP do anything anywhere near that scale? Bear in mind that Star Wars has a large cult-ish following from the movies and many (see: "most") of them are huge nerds (I lovingly use that term as a nerd myself). It shouldn't be surprising that many of them are trying an MMO based on Star Wars... because... well... it's Star Wars! It'll be awesome! It can't be bad!! (*cough*PhantomMenace*cough*)
EVE doesn't have that kind of recognition to draw from. It's also a "niche" game that's appealing to people who specifically don't want the "same old, same old." "Just because I seem like an idiot, doesn't mean I am one." ~Unknown |

Veterans are steadily increasing their number of alts, until they get either bored or burnt out. New players staying in eve are a rarity, as before.
I don't have any statistics to back it up, but I won't be looking into PCU either with it being tied to the number of alts from various power of two -campaigns. |
