Ok, before I ask the actual question I just want to prefix things with yes, I am fully aware that a dedicated explorer looking to make the best use of their time will use a Covert Ops frigate and before that one of the astrometrics frigates. So I am not really looking for 'best' here.
What I am looking to ask, are there any thoughts about a good single-ship exploration setup.. i.e. a BC/BS with a probe launcher, some of those scan-time rigs, and the needed equipment to run various sites. I am mostly thinking Hi-Sec so no cloak or such needed.

While obviously less efficient in probe usage, I've found that the tier 2 battlecruisers, fitted with a sisters scan probe launcher, are adequate for most things you'll run into hi sec. If you're maxed out on skills for exploration, I believe your scan time should be down around 183 seconds with that set up. That gives you two scans per sift probe, so bring a lot o probes.
BC can handle most anything you'll see in hi sec sites.
so choose the BC you have the best skills with.

Youve pretty much covered it. Take your combat ship, slap a launcher on it, and youre set. As you mentioned, the rest of us wouldnt bother as it would make scanning twice as long.

First off if you only plan on only doing radar, Grav and Mag sites use the BC.
If You plan on doing unknowns you can not use just one ship in high sec to scan it down and do it. The gates restrict ship size most are going to be frigate to cruiser size with about 10% BC and with 220CPU on prob launchers anything smaller then BC isn't gona leave much left over.
