So I just started the game and I'm running through the tutorial missions, I get to this one and it is sooo hard. I'm using a minmatar Slasher with 2x 150mm auto cannons and depleted uranium shells.
I warp in and I'm facing 10-12 ships in 4 groups which have now coalesced into 2 groups. I'm still so early in the game where I have to warp in, barely kill one guy, then warp out for repairs..
This seems insanely hard for this early in the game and its one of the only missions available to me.
What am I doing wrong?

I am at this moment doing this mission, and yeah, it's tough. Outfitted with 6 lasers + two uranium railguns (I have really no clue about weapon layouts), three armor plates and a shield booster and they got my armor (1731) down halfway. I'm in a Catalyst.
What I did was take out one group that was far away from the others, then went to attack another. The #2 and #3 groups did coalesce, though, so I'm running back to get repairs and coming back to take #4.
Considering the difficulty I had with a destroyer (which usually cleans up LV1 missions pretty quickly), I seriously doubt this can be done in that low-tier frigate.

Well I'm on the last two guys of that first group of 10 ships. Considering this is only the 2nd or 3rd mission in the tutorial I'm kinda on how anyone who didn't upgrade their ship right away could make it through this..

for missions, try using artillery, as you can keep range and not take so much damage. A thrasher (the minmatar destroyer) makes an awesome level 1 mission boat for minmatar with 7 250mm artillery on it. Shield tank it.
as for the catalyst user, the ship states it has a bonus to hybrid guns no? so use a rack of 7x 125mm railguns with tungsten or iridium ammo or something. Armour tank it. :)

I'm still stuck repeating level I missions (can't wait for II) and have done this in both my incursus and Catalyst. As fellow noob will say the more missions, ratting, whatever you do the more comfortable you will feel. First starting you see a group of 4-6 ships you might get paranoid, now you realize they take two, maybe three shots to pop and only a couple really deal damage. I'd be willing to fleet with you but i'm guessing you are quite a bit away from the region i'm in.

Do what someone else suggested. Swap autocannons out for artillery, use Eve-Survival to figure out how to manage aggro, and be sure that you're tanking your ship appropriately. Slasher is perhaps... not the best mission frigate. It's fast as hell, but I'd go for something a little nastier, like maybe a Rifter.
If you're having cash problems, mine for a bit (if you have the skills) and sell the ore. A couple hours (even in a frigate eww) will net you some ok cash, enough to buy the Salvaging skill (and its prereqs). Then, salvage all the wrecks from your missions, and enjoy the 350k-each trit bars, and 80k-each burned logic circuits. ___ Victory smiles upon those who anticipate the changes in the character of war, not upon those who wait to adapt themselves after they occur. ~Guilio Douhet |

There is a channel designed to help people who are struggling on missions called HelpMyMission channel.
Please feel free to check it out, as there should be people in there happy to give advice or help if needed
