I've recently come into a lot of money (for me) through a character sale and want something to do while training up skills on my new character. Is there any way to get a steady return over the next few weeks with minimal skills (I'm training my learning skills) but a reasonable amount of capital?

A little low 20%. Depending on the sum, but if it's considerable capital as the op says, 30-35 % sounds more realistic.

Speaking of trading, is it general rule of thumb, to sell in low sec?

The really lazy way is to invest in someone else. The only skill required is in finding people you can trust. Eve-bank is seen as more secure, but Dynasty Bank offers much better returns. They're been going for quite a few months now. Follow the market discussion forums and watch for new offerings, and wait until you see one you like the look of. Thanks - that's exactly the sort of thing I want. I don't want to be doing endless margin trading if possible, or shipping goods around - I want a break while the skills are training until I can do something useful.

But evebank is run by players. When i give my isk to them, i have no securities, only their promise to give it back. Eve encourages scams fraud and theft, so what exactly will stop them from running away with all the money ? The fact that they said they won't do that ??

Hummm player ran banks....did'nt we already go this way before? Oh yeah we did, and it was a scam.
Ingame thieves, dont start the game saying "I am going to RAKE THEM OVER THE COALS" from game day one...In a moment of WTF am I still playing this game for....They go bad, and stealing Millions of isk from former friends is one way to have you name remembered. I know...I know...but it has happened, and will happen again and again. |

I know this is a hopeless request, but those yelling scam about EBank might want to do a little research and know what the hell they are talking about before they look really, really dumb in front of people who do know what's going on.
EBank goes to great lengths to ensure that the funds in it are safe from scams and what have you. I doubt you will find a safer investment, and would venture that it is probably safer than trying to do many kinds of trade yourself - there is a guaranteed return after all. --------------

Buy ore/mods out side of jita and haul them in to jita alot of the time you can find them cheaper out side of jita if your willing to make a few jumps can be risky some one might try to gank you jumping in to jita.
That been said you need an alt in jita as you check the markets in other areas to find whats cheaper since it will make it easyer but max out a hauler with HP mods not cargo.
Other wise nice hauler full of ore is seen with cargo expanders making it slow and easy you will get ganked easy vs a hauler set up for hp might not hold as much but is abit harder to gank and could say you alot of isk. Death is great rember where all dying to get there. |

anyhow advice for the OP...
Buy and sell faction/deadspace modules from players who really want to sell to those who really want to buy, even a small deviation in the price on those gets you proper isk that'll put the return from investing all your isk to shame. You can do this on an alt with just some contracting skills to keep your mains contract history innocent looking.
obviously you need to know a fair bit of stuff but it's pretty easy considering you already have a nice pile of isk.
