Edited by: Denuo Secus on 07/07/2008 13:11:08 Hi,
I often heared "use faction ammo and Null, never Void". So faction ammo aside for this time (to expensive for me at this moment), why not Void??
Void's advantanges against faction antimatter are
- better range - little more damage - 6x cheaper
Disadvantages are
- really bad tracking - more cap usage
I would imagine that cap usage is manageable. And tracking (under certain circumstances) is also manageable, isn't it? Standard scenario: target is webbed down and I try to get the transversal low...where is the problem?
Of course there are also scenarios in which Void ammo doesn't work. If I'm webbed at around 8-10km (with medium guns) for instance. But therefor I've Null. What do you say?

Also, damage spread skewed more toward thermal than kinetic, making it really better to shoot T2 Amarr and Gallente armor.

Ok, here are some assumptions...
I cannot orbit a target with MWD (cap problem afer 1-2 minutes, singnature radius, no nano fitting). So my velocity with a BC or a cruiser is between 150 m/s and 300 m/s. Target is webbed. So transversal velocity is almost completely a result of my movement. I could even lower my orbit velocity if my tank holds the incoming damage (can I "out-transversal" damage with 300 m/s??). If necessary to zero. Additionally are blasters by itself good tracking guns.
Do I really don't hit with Void under this circumstances??

Good point! Did't consider it.

It's really nice to have a high dps ammo, but if you can't hit anything with it, it's pretty useless.
Null has it's uses, since you can hit further away and do reasonable damage. Tracking is a bit less of an issue here, since you're farther away from your target.

load it in your guns and try it out. it can work against bigger targets than yourself. but if you fly a active rep setup you really don't wanna use it the cap usage will kill you than.

Really bad tracking means really bad dps.
Also, ships like the brutix and astarte are extremely cap unstable and are made much more stable by using faction or null.

Tracking is no issue on a webbed equal size or bigger target. And blaster boat usually end up well within VOID optimal, which is pretty decent as blaster ammo go. e.g. it's 4km with Electron Blaster Cannon and much more with Ions and Neutrons. -- Coming to you, Assault Ships fix, by the people saying that the Gallente Recons are fine. |

Void L is quite usless when navy AM is available. Tracking and cap is an issue.
I find small/medium void ok but still 2nd to navy

Neutrons + Void = No Cap.

While I do agree with most of the replies here, both positives and negatives I will say mostly just jump into the ship, take a few of the charges with you and try it out.
I have to admit though I do enjoy using my active repping tanked neutron blaster taranis with void ammo for low sec ratting, the damage output is second to none. But then my skills are pretty high with regards the cap etc...

if youve ever flied an amarr ship with lasers, you know how bad it is to have your guns use way too much cap. Imagine that on a gallente ship.

If you're shooting at targets bigger than you and have web support, Void actually isn't a bad choice because it does sport slightly superior damage than Faction AM. The problem is that Faction AM fills that role almost as well as Void does and is useful in many more situations as well; it's just a far more versatile ammo. -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |

While in essence I would agree with the cap use of said lasers, I would have to dispute the idea that with higher skills lasers are pretty damn good.
That is of course when skills are pretty high, and even then one has to watch out, something not expected can really give you a bad day of it... ----------------------------

And the amarrian guns track phenominally well while delivering damage at comperable or longer ranges. Really I think the best weapon for mid ranged combat in a vague general sense is the pulse laser. I like missiles as much as anyone but space combat just doens't seem right unless you have lasers involved.
