The title was not wrong as I was only wondering where those 2 items had gone. Also im going to go out on a limb here and suggest that for the effort involved in a dev writing a script to mail specific people who had items deleted they could simply just return the items. I mean they could mail everybody in game saying we may have deleted some of your items etc but that would make more of a PR shitstorm than its really worth. I don't really understand what any more slander or bitching is going to accomplish here. |

Stop making EvE UNFUN, of making it EMPTY.
First the "door in face" at Incarna. Because giving players options sucks, eh? It worked good, amirite?
Then the deletion of those nice CONCORD fittings. I had several. They hurted nobody, they were fun to link and to make jokes with. Did they cause glitches? Who effing cares it's not like they deleted boot.ini. We can take care. Ok I get it, adding some IFs in the code was hard and certainly worth p!ssing off players.
Then the ******** mass items renaming to cater to some unlikely sub 80 IQ new player. Unlikely as in, they won't stay in EvE with sub 80 IQ anyway, it's not like dumbing down the lore and the tastiness of the game will help them.
Finally this other "decision", because you know, adding a "cannot use" flag was hard so we have to p!ss off Entity and others and cause 10 days worth of work hours loss to the company!

Relax man, what I mean is that he actually admitted that he did remove it, and that he was responsible. You realise how many times CCP don't say a word, at all, ever?
This whole situation is disturbing, and frankly disgusting that one or two employees so easily can just remove crap at a whim, but the common CCP reaction would be to sweep it under the rug. This time he actually talks to us, and keeps a dialogue. Post the reasons he did what, how it can or can't be reversed, etc. That's bloody massive improvement on CCP's side. You should know I almost exclusively call out CCP for every bad thing they do, I feel obliged to at least point out some good as well. It's a game but real effort goes into acquiring stuff (and a LOT of effort went into acquiring many of the items that Greyscale flushed down the crapper). In case of ships and modules and implants and whatnot you kind of expect them to be lost soon enough for the most part, and getting ragey about it would have been stupid. But in case of you spending literally years collecting items that you didn't think would be going anywhere losing your stuff is much more frustrating. Moreover, in this SANDBOX where Collector emerged as a hobby/profession of sorts, what you have is one dev singlehandedly flushing THAT down the crapper to. Sorry guise your occupation is invalid because you were dealing with useless crap and items that are ~obviously~ only in game because of hax.
Combine it with the fact that the change went completely unannounced by the devs, and Greyscale's attitude, and you have yourself angry players because the hurt is quite real to them as they saw the results of years of effort destroyed just like that. |

Collecting as a Profession.
GùÅ I had not even heard of EVE when Python mines were deployable, but I had owned several stacks. GùÅ I never got to launch a snowball - but acquired enough to fill a Caracal's highslots. GùÅ I only ever heard rumors of the Concord Special Ops Cruiser - but I collected the fitting & got to read all about the GM Cloaking Device, Mega Module, 'Voila' Anti-Cloaking Pulse I & Lockdown Module....
I joined EVE a year ago because it was hard, because of the Russians, because there was nothing that I was required to do. I fell into collecting because I am a history buff & all of the "illegitimate" item types GÇô from the GÇ£TESTGÇ¥ modules to the GÇ£GM Ultra Mega Super Death RayGÇ¥ to Buffy, Blade and Helsing Anti-Vampires GÇô provided a peak into ideas-in-development past & present.
Many CCP employees seem to be thoughtful, funny people who would be a pleasure to a pleasure to meet at FanFest. Others can only ape accountability GÇ£Yes, this because of a thing that I didGÇ¥, interest GÇ£WeGÇÖre looking at our options right nowGÇ¥, and compassion GÇ£My player owned both blueprints, I understand your painGÇ¥.
The thing is this GÇô EVE IS REALGäóGǪ until you do things like this. After 7+ years, canGÇÖt you see how itGÇÖs evolved? YouGÇÖre DEVELOPERSGǪ but IGÇÖm sure EVE has grown in ways that you never would have expected.
We want the junk in the database. WE LIKE THE JUNK in the database.
How cool is it to look at a Monet or a Mondrian? Some works are completely new, but many are revisions on previous ideasGǪ How cool are sketches from Da VinciGÇÖs notebook? Some are nothing more than doodles or rough sketches GÇô but they let you see into the development process & are creations in their own right.
IGÇÖm not sure what projects you have worked on [you being any CCP employee reading this post] but how would you feel if someone 5 years from now was looking through the items log & found the beta module with a clever description from your pet project & said GÇô UNUSED, marked for deletion.] Is someone going to go through and rename/delete all the Officer mods? GÇ£who are these people anyway, IGÇÖve never heard of them GÇô they must be junkGÇ¥?
The 1000 items expunged from the database represent thousands of hours of ideas, discussions & coding - and had a specific function at the time they were created. Why they weren't deleted immediately after is unknown - but they've taken on a life of their own in the sandbox. This isn't Office Space, so Bob - you canGÇÖt just GÇ£fix the glitchGÇ¥.
Please restore all items that were recently deleted. You already have attributes that can be changed to make the modules impossible to equip (slap a Polaris skill requirement on each for good measure)GǪ add Polaris req (if you're so inclined) to the manufacturing skill requirements for all the blueprints that you removed and restore them too.
Just because many in Eve donGÇÖt appreciate this viewpoint doesnGÇÖt give you the right to kill something. Being a CCP employee & a GM does give you the power, but power doesnGÇÖt give you the right.
This whole thing has already blown up in your face GÇô and is poised to waste a lot of your time over the next week. Instead of defending your position (at work and in the forums) GÇô write a batch file that will add Polaris to everything youGÇÖre worried about & restore the list.
DonGÇÖt be the guy that makes changes that canGÇÖt be considered improvements. |

I mostly agree. Except for one thing:
Types that have no instances in player hands are irrelevant. Anyone can make funky fitting links with arbitrary types in it. These have no value and it would be ridiculous for CCP to be forced to keep a type in just because someone made a fitting link of it. (really, it's trivial to produce those).
I'm only asking for restoration of all types that were owned by players. Including that capital implant and the chalcopyrite mission ore, and for CCP to be more considerate when it comes to emergent gameplay such as collecting in the future.
Deleting stuff is just a slap in the face to people who have stayed with EVE for better and worse since the beginning, and spent countless hours and billions of ISK tracking down and acquiring the "odd" items.
Another problem here is, we collectors are a minority, so CCP can basically just go "LOL WHATEVER" and ignore us.
Ok, they're restoring most of the items because lots of people were affected and cried out, but I'm not getting my implant back because I'm the only guy that had one? Awesome. Why do I even bother getting unique items?

Where was this information in the patch notes ?
I filed a bug report about being unable to see ships in the fittings manager.. No response to it..
Perhaps in the future before deleting anything from the game, you should run a script to see if anyone has one.. And then decide how you are going to compensate them.. you know, before you do it.
I'm not a huge collector.. I have a few things.. Few Snowballs.. I had some mines.. etc.. Why should I continue to collect if at a Dev's whim I'll lose those items, and any ISK spent getting them.
Only reason I even know of any of this is I commented in a channel and someone saw this.. maybe my own fault for not following the forums, but I read the patch notes, and try and keep up on that stuff.. Yet here I am.. finding out stuff I paid for, or would have paid for in the future, to just disappear , and I'd never even know till I looked in the can again..
I'm very disappointed, as a new-ish player, in all of this.. And in some of the responses from the Devs that just felt like a blowoff..
edit.
Oh, and to the comment about some of this stuff being got through illicit means.. Where are all the Tech II BPO's on this deletion list ? Cause until those have been removed [ or made available for through the game for other to get a hold of ], items which basically corner the market on all those items, you really don't get the high ground about removing any other items that might have questionable origins but do no harm to anyone else. |

Snowball Launchers - I had 11 in my hanger and now I have... 11. Yah it looks like snowball launchers were NOT removed. I had both the versions of snowballs and there was only one version of launcher for both releases so there should not be variations in who got there's removed and who did not. Snowball launchers are still in the DB so if yours are missing check your assets and if they are still missing I guess submit a petition... because you should still have them.

I think it's time to add this term to EVE's slang: "to CCP"
Definition: when something you owned mysteriously disappears as if it never existed. It can occur via cop theft, the owner accidentally trashing it, the owner blowing it up while drunk out of their mind, etc.
Usage examples:
- "Holy crap, looks like our corp's 1000 Drakes and a bunch of other stuff was CCP'd!"
- "Whoops, accidentally hit "self destruct", ship done did CCP. Didn't want that titan anyway."
- "Hey noobs, did you know there were cool items like mines in the game? D'oh, of course you don't, EVE's history in the form of rare items was CCP'd in 2012".
- "Remember there was this cool spaceship game, EVE? Too bad it got CCP'd"
(Alternative definition: to sweep something under the rug and never speak of it again.) |

Hell they could label anything that has instances in the game but is unused with the [Collector's Edition] flag, or something equally pseudo-clever, so that these items are easily recognizable for that they are by both dev and player. Would prevent this kind of nonsense in the future too.

I love how we are actually the ones begging the Dev to flag such items for dev's own recognition in the future. Shouldn't it be the other way around? |
