Edited by: Kiros Seagill on 20/05/2004 20:47:38 Players from Cinders Corp who type in the same color as polaris, have shown up in Abudban flying various PIRATE frigates. These are not ships available to players. They are in a .7 system and not being attacked by Concord or sentries as they continue to slaughter many people at the gates! What is going on?!?!? Are these people polaris or what. They are not in polaris corp. Why would CCP have people slaughtering innocents? or are they exploiters? |

whoa this sounds interesting, you should shoot them with an alt or something to see if it's an aggressive action.

Sorry can't get screens. They blew up my kestrel before I could think about it. So now im running to get my Geddon...All I know is they are flying serpentis ships and travelling in groups... I think people in system managaed to shoo them away but they should be back. Even if they don't come back, I want to know what happened. Who are they, and how did they get those ships, and why didnt concord or sentries attack them. Note: They podded no one. |

This is an event in an ongoing story Arc being performed by one of our event producers.
The coloured text are classed as above the law, meaning you can shoot them without fear of concord reactions. The coloured text is also their as a means of identification so you know its an events actor and not a normal player.
One point I would like to expand on is that combat in these cirumstances is controlled by the producer and actors, no players purposefully have their ships destroyed unless they are willing to fight to the death (you get plenty of chances to escape). Under no circumstances do event actors pod players either.
So no, ISD hasn't gone nuts neither has ccp

Ehhh how about saying the system name instead of refering it to just as "the system"? ------------------------------------------- If you kill them, they will die!

Oh no, hang on, at least Zombie had to contend with Cocnord, instead of disabling them. Oh, thought of another, Zombie used regular ships, weren't cloaked, and used regular weapons too.
I'm all for events but use some commonsense as to where they take place.

apparently that doesnt apply to jumpgates, since the jumpgate to Rens refused me to make the jump, after having fired 3 heavies against one of the ships, in self defense.
kinda sucks to get shot down when trying to leave the system, when they said that "the ones who want to live, leave the system now"

Any agressicve action will lad to you not being able to jump at a stargate fr 1 minute. you may have fired in self defence... but it's still an agressive act.

Paul dont be a wuss. ive lost numerous frigates and cruisers. you have to play smart to keep your ship. if you run crying everytime you lose a ship you will never get anywhere. mine yourself a new one or buy one and go on with life. next time they run an event you will be ready to pod them all. _________________________________________________________

Cry me a river.
Actually no I didn't - I dont have millions of isk in the bank and I don't have millions of skill points. I'm a struggling noob who has just got out of friggates and into a cruiser. I simply no longer want to invest 4 hours a night (every night for 3 months so far) trying to build up my character when the game designers can take it all away for an 'event'.
With respect, I think that some of you long time players have forgotton just how hard it is to get started in this game. You loose a Battleship or whatever - no big deal. Some of us are not at that point.
I have lost a lot of ships to rats, PvP and even to CONCORD. That is part of the game (and was fun). This idea that CCP can shoot people for a laugh (not me this time but only because I wasn't in that system) makes the game no longer fun. Who knows who they will kill next for the sake of a story line that most of the games players care nothing about? And why pick an area of space containing mostly new players? My personal feeling is that I'm not gonna play something that isn't fun, I'll find something else that is.
That's the explanation, no flame, trolling or insult intended, just wanted to state my point of view.
Thanks PL

Too bad my shiploss werent in the logs, i forgot to save it myself.
It went something like:
Quote:
Cinder guy -you have been warned Cinder guy -Altarius, you were warned Altaireus -I tried to leave, da*n it!!!
Then i jumped to Rens with my pod
Even tho i was really pi**ed the minutes after i lost my first cruiser i only had flown for 2 days, it was my biggest experience in the game yet, and i would love to see more events like this. But next time i will fire more than the 3 heavy missiles i threw away in panic, somewhere in the time i got hit by 10 missiles and over 20 projectiles. (1 against 8 isnt the best odds when you are fitted for courier missions in high sec space)

YEAH!
I was hoping to hear Cinder reshowed. I saw them in Roku... first. Now in a differant system! Ok ... They are fun to play with and I hope ppl that loose ships to them do NOT give POLARIS, CCP too much grief. Come on. They anounce that thwey are priates. Let them do their thing. You can dock - run away - jump away - or kill them. Preferably kill them. It's fun ... just like opening a can of spam. Just twist the metal tab on their spaceships. Seriously, they are not exploiters. Consider them to be more like kobolds with afterburners. [CENTER] To live is to game - in some way

Well I enjoyed it, even if all I did was sit cowering in Rens waiting for them to leave so I could go and do some looting
Sure I was too slow to get anything (Except a bit of veldspar from an unguarded can at an asteroid belt - thanks mate! ), but it was the taking part that mattered - sitting around listening to the bits of information drip through, wondering whether I should go get my rupture and try a bit of combat. Next time I won't be such a wuss and actually try entering the system

PaulLRyan, so find a deacent corp.
And you fired, an agressive act. There are VERY good reasons not to let someone warp out the system straight afterwarss. You could allways warp to a planet/moon or a safespot and wait it out.

err, incorrect. Just the other day a friend of mine shot at a Serpentis Guard (guy speaking in teal) during an ongoing event. What happened is that there were two Serpentis event rats, one of them shot me, but the sentry guns at the gate did not shoot him down. Then my friend came in and shot the other Serpentis rat, and was gunned down by the sentry guns.
...so, YES... they are above the law, meaning that they do not have to fear CONCORD or sentry guns... but you still have to fear the law if you are the aggressor. ...new sig coming up Ravenal - Fate is what you make of it. |

Ok - I am offically confused.
Due to RL internet problems i couldn't log on last night so i missed this entire event. I came to the forums this morning to find out what i missed and this is the only thread i find.
I have read through it and i have to say i am somewhat confused, surely some posts are missing? People have been quoting things that a char called PaulLRyan has said but i can't find his original comments anywhere. I take it that this means they have been deleted by the mods - but why? Usually the mods will give a reason for post deletion and lock the thread, they do not appear to have done this, they have just deleted Pauls entire post.
Whether you think this was a good or bad event is beside the point - Surely you have to be able to say that you didn't like the way an event worked without having your posts deleted. If previous posters hadn't quoted some of his comments i would never have known anyone had not enjoyed it.
I thought these forums were for everyone, and as long as they dont flame or troll you can discuss topics no matter what your view is - Am i wrong in this?

Damn,
I was in and around Dumkirimur for most of last night, and none of this filtered through to me, Rens aint far. If this is their second sighting, then we can only assume that they will be back with increased frequency. Cheers to MrBinary for posting the log. A great read. I look forward to hearing more.. hopefully Cinder's characters will be a bit more developed next time.
It's a shame the raiders only had a couple of braincells between them - Seems like they'd have bested most in combat, but their patter reads poorly from the logs.

Dunno if I missed it somewhere, but what was the *point* of this event? What story "arc" is this part of? Events have previously been used to give away some new technology or other prize possession. Was that the case here, or just a few CCP people having some fun?

i was too late to get to Abudban, however i did get some nice loot :). And for whoever it was moaning about losing a ship: Get used to it - losing ships is part of the game. Imagine if in rl you were taken hostage and killed, you cant really say (thoretically, as you'd be dead) 'I was killed but i didn't wan't to take part in the hostage situation ,this is so unfair'. Sometime hings just happen that you can't control. Plus, if you keep playing you'll eventually get to the level where you can buy new battleships just like that, so dont give up just cause your first cruiser was destroyed.

Point is that we (or at least me) dont know the point yet... Its called roleplaying. I dont care so much about technology or other rewards, the fun in these events is to play your own role.

The lession I learned in Eve is never shoot back in safe space. Two friends of mine were killed due other who done "Grid-Exploiting". And in an other thread ISD stated you could be temporary banned or kicked from the system when you try to disturb an event. So there is really no reason (beside Corpwars) to lock and fire at anybody in safe space... it always ended bad for all people I know.
They ignored much of the RP-stuff in eve and pretending to roleplaying. Why didn't have the Cinders Corp. people any biography or corp discription? Wasn't that supposed for roleplaying characters? They even haven't put the empire on their dislike list. Honestly, this event is lame, and like Siddy stated in a other thread (and Sparc in this): Zombie Inc. did the same in Yulai, with CONCORD interference and they get banned.

Firstly, this event isnt lame, because people actually liked it. Secondly, is Zombie Inc. an PC corporation? Do they have anything to do with CCP or ISD program? If not, of course they get banned for doing those things without permission.

The event is lame, because the people of Cinders Corp. didn't use the elements like biographies, corporation description and standings. So all people are unable to see the intention for killing people and claiming system. If they put up a corp description which gives some background information it might clear things up, but at the moment there is no difference betweens players ganking peoples at gates and the Cinders Corp. It lacks of roleplaying, but it was supposed to be roleplaying. But maybe it's okay, in the FAQ it's clearly stated: "EVE is a persistent world multiplayer online game (MMOG) set in space. - there is no roleplaying in the name, so we can't expect it.
With the rest you are nearly right. Zombie Inc. is a playercorp without permission to kill people in safe space. But were is the reason for CONCORD not attacking Cinders Inc.?

Mormar, It seems obvious that you are either a CCP employee or put up to make these comments. Bottom line with this event is the vast majority of players did not enjoy it. If players dont enjoy a game (and this is a GAME not RL) then the leave and the game is no more.
This event should either 1) have been played out in .4 space and below were players are preapred to lose ships as it is unsecure space or 2) have followed the same rules as applied by concord to all players in .5 and above.
We all pay to play this game and there are lots if other games out there. If a large number of players say that they dont like something then CCP needs to listen otherwise they will follow Earth and Beyond!!!!

Quote: GreyMana: The event is lame, because the people of Cinders Corp. didn't use the elements like biographies, corporation description and standings. So all people are unable to see the intention for killing people and claiming system. If they put up a corp description which gives some background information. At the moment there is no difference betweens players ganking peoples at gates and the Cinders Corp.
Dont you think that when people like something, its successful? Of course it could be even more great by adding biographies and other things, but I like it how it is. I didnt notice this was MMOG, sorry about that (I found this game from mmorpg.com). The difference between players ganking people at gates and the Cinders Corp. is that Cinder people are definitely more fun than "players ganking people at gates" . And reason for CONCORD not attacking Cinder is the element of roleplaying. They said that the local CONCORD captain was glad about their gifts, or something like that.

Uhm, Im not CCP employee as you can guess nor paid to write these things. It just looked to me that most people liked the event, because there were more positive comments than negative.
"This event should either 1) have been played out in .4 space and below were players are preapred to lose ships as it is unsecure space"
ISD event actors clearly said that all players will have a lot of time to escape. So you wont lose your ship if you dont want to take part to the event. And if someone now says they have lost their ship... well, I dont know about that (maybe some mistake.. it happens).
"2) have followed the same rules as applied by concord to all players in .5 and above."
Again, this is roleplaying event. If you dont like it, you wont.
"If a large number of players say that they dont like something then CCP needs to listen otherwise they will follow Earth and Beyond!!!!"
I think CCP knows that and doesnt want their players to leave...

And I can see why you would think that reading this thread. The sad truth however is that the early negative posts that were in this thread last night have been deleted by CCP. Not edited but totally deleted. If you look at what is now my first post in this thread you can tell that it's a reply. My first 'real' post has gone completely.
I did say negative things about this 'event' but I was careful not to swear, flame, troll or any of the other things that can happen in posts.
As I've been given no reason for it's deletion I can only assume it was to hide a negative comment. I accept that you are a new player but please don't think that these boards allow people (with ideas, coments not to CCP's liking) any form of free speach.

I didnt know that But if I were you, I would definitely stop paying anything to CCP... and spread the word they are doing this kind of propaganda. Because if all would know this, they would quit paying.. if they would not, they would be stupid. Just my opinion... I better start to look more carefully about whats happening in these forums.

Mormar - It is not my intention to try and make anyone quit EVE. That is a personal choice for all that must be made by them. All I've tried to do in this thread is make CCP understand that what happend last night was not very well thought out.
I may not have put my point over very well. The facts, as I know them are quite simple. I was in the help channel last night and there were no voices of approval for this event. Posts that were negative about this 'event' have been removed from this thread with no explanation. From people I have spoken to (ingame and out) the rules of engagement posted by CCP were not followed.
People may wonder why I'm bothered as I did not actually loose anything. The answer to that is simple. This 'event' spoilt the gaming experience for a lot of people. I care because I love playing EVE. I'm all for good role-play but what happened last night was no different to several other player organised happenings that CCP themselves have condemned. This is a game and whilst it can be hard it still has to be enjoyable or there is no point.
If CCP want a storyline where we can go to war with the Jove, great. But alow us to take part. All that happened last night was lots of unprepared people lost in-game assets that had taken them a long time to accumulate. I love PvP but there are rules about where that should happen in EVE. CCP themselves broke all those rules last night.
A ship configuration for PvP is different to that which you would use for any other aspect of the game. I can't imagine there were many people flying in 'safe' space last night that were carrying a proper PvP configuration.
OK so it's happened and it's over. We (as roleplaying characters) can exact no (in-game) revenge or retribution as Jove space is not open to us. There is no way we can organise any defence as it's impossible to know when or where the next strike will be. We are sitting ducks whose only part in the 'role-playing' is to act as targets.

o) I deleted the replies to this thread that we're either a) offtopic or b) I considered trolling
o) I'm now closing this thread, i'm more than happy to let post event discussion occur, however not to the tone that i have been deleting from this thread.
