Edited by: DubanFP on 09/07/2008 23:38:53 Look the people saying "if you don't already know then you aren't ready to fly either" aren't being arrogant. They are stating a plain and simple fact. Carriers and Dreadnoughts have increadably different uses and can't even be compared. If you knew where to even begin using a capital then you wouldn't be asking this question in the first place. If you buy a carrier/dread you will die very quickly, and i can guarentee it. Trust me when we say this. You will be doing yourself a favor by not using them yet.
P.S. Don't treat us like the bad guys for pointing out your own inexperience and unreadiness to fly a capital. Trust me when I say this. The asswholes are the ones telling you to fly a carrier/dread because chances are they already know what will happen to you if you do. _______________

Every pirate within 35 jumps would band together to kill them. Dreadnaughts are only good for killing capitals and pos. And before you ay Remote Rep Carrier, every pirate owns or has a friend who is able to log in a falcon alt, so remote reps just wont happen. --

This.
P.S. Does your group of dreads/carriers plan on moving through venal any time soon? I'm sure SoV would love to try our luck against that group. _______________

Does a dreadnought cost fuel to keep in siege mode? Can any of them do any level 4 och 5 mission?
Not sure...
Kronos is the only dread that could possibly do lvl5's solo due to drone bay. Carrier I believe is the way to go if you want to try and solo missions.
Siege is a baaaad idea, you will be a sitting duck for any pirate and his homies that happen to scan you down.
Kronos is a maruauder i was talking about Moros. but i think you know what i mean.
does moros cost anything to be in siege mode or flying it. Dont you need a lot of firepower to be abel to take a moros down
You need some firepower, yeah, but you can bet as soon as people find you trying to do a mission, firepower will arrive shortly.
As far as the arrogance in the forum, meh, it's a forum. You'll always find that, heh. For the most part I think people are trying to help out by encouraging people with low skills/new to the game not to fly expensive ships until they know how the game works. Sometimes it's taken a bit far imho, and you'll find protectionist carebears encouraging people not to do level 4's until they have 10 million SP or something silly. But here, I think it's fair to say that you shouldn't be buying a carrier or a dread, and in any case they aren't meant for missioning.
So if pirate scan 5-6 dreadnoguth or 5-6 carriers or a combo of the 2 sorths they will attack?
Hell if I found a lone carrier I'd attack it.
If you have a PvP gang (or pirate, if you prefer) and they see 4-5 cap ships without a 30 man support fleet near it, hell yeah they'll attack you and they'll kill them. --

People take things way too seriously. Those who say "if you have to ask then you're not ready" I think a probably the ones who shouldn't be flying capital ships - ie. the ones who seem to hold EVE computer game money and pixelised ships to have some emotional value and are a bit too afraid to get down to business and play the darn game. Either that, or they suddenly had god him/herself bestow them with Capital Ship Insight one morning while scratching their ass in the shower and thus automatically belong to an exlusive cadre of super-elites that are worthy of flying carriers. I lawl in your general direction tbh.
What happens if you buy a super expensive ship and haven't mastered the skills for it? Worst case scenario; it gets blown up. That's all. Or you might even survive *gasp* long enough to learn how to use it. Either way you'll probably have some fun in EVE.

Wrong, in a sense we protect them.
We protect them from the probability that they'll lose it due to sheer lack of information, and that's a very signifiant cost.
We protect them from the damage their repuation will take if, or rather when, they lose it due to terrible fitting, like trying to passive-tank them, and the like.
Capital ships aren't like a cruiser. There's tons of things you can fly decently with a general knownledge of game mechanic. but a cap ship require quite a lot of specific knowledge, like jumping, and part of that knowledge is knowning the pros and cons of your ship class.
Also, they're a pretty steep SP requirment for flying carriers and dreads. That means dedication, and a dedicaced pilot is supposed to know exactly what goal he's trying to reach... ------------------------------------------

Because people look at their skillpoints total and their killboard score and get a superiority complex. They also spend so much time of their no-life gathering so much knowledge about the game that they feel the need to come here and brag about them knowing it all and you being 'a noob that ask pointless questions and dont deserve to be in a carrier or even think about getting one eventually'.
Thats basically why. I didn't bought an account, know pretty much all about the game and those guys still makes me want to puke.
wow, go emo much? can't see the help a good forum spanking could have on the isk account? its all for his/her good in the end really tbqfh

If you care about your ISK and your reputation; if losing expencive stuff makes you cry - don't jump into capital until you know what to do with it, and how.
If you just want to experience the fullest of Eve; you don't care much about losing ships and more ships and more big ships; if you can take the laughter at your death and failure; you just want to go WHEEEEE! - go for carrier first if what you want to do is level 5's. After you lose a couple, try some dread :)
