Edited by: Shade Aran on 09/07/2008 21:50:23 I was doing mission in 0.4 system. Got careless and got cought by pirates. Such things happen. They do standard things and open communication. I was in Drake T1 geared 32 mill all together, also had 15 mill back on insurance. So chat goes this way:
- give me 40 mill and I will let you go - I said that my drake is worth less and I am also new player to EVE (less then 2 month) - he said how much I was willing to pay - I said 12 mill because I am newby? - he said 10 mill
I transfer money and say that in chat and he blows my ship. His reasoning was that I lied about my money. I wander how I could lie if I never was asked about money and also I never mentioned. I had conversation with his partner later and at end they claim that they are honorable pirates but they will not give me my ransom back because I lied about my money.
So people involved are from Middle School Comedy Club corp. Alchemos (also CEO of corp) was talking with my about ransom and later on he was afraid to talk with me directly I guess so his partner talked with me (Black momba22).
Trey are entitled to do what they want so this is not any kind of illegal play or anything. I am not complaining about ship being destroyed. I was careless so I lost it. Entirely my fault. I am making post to warn others who run into them to not to trust them. They will take your money and still blow up ship. I must say Black momba22 is not too bad. He was ready to talk this with me but Alchemos did not even want to discus this. Unfortunately I do not have chat log so hopefully Alchemos will be brave enough to paste it here.
Anyway my losses were not big so not big deal. Just have fun with game and don't trust this corp. Use self destruct if you are caught. It will save you ISK.
P.S.
I posted with wrong char. My char with which I was playing was Sekki Shin.

rules of life: 0 - assume the ship is lost. 1 - don't pay ransom. tell them you're paying ransom and need help paying ransom. ask what to click and stall for time. you won't get much but a minute or so at least. 2 - attempt to warp out. jiggle engine on and off. they occasionally don't web in order to keep distance. 3 - see if corp mates are around to help you 4 - if they don't have big dps but you're totally held in place, start self-destruct. you can yell in local as well to get more people to warp in just to be an arse 5 - collect insurance, buy new ship, stay out of low sec for missions

Thanks for info. Well if there are so much dishonorable pirates how they get money nowdays? Salvaging wrecks? ;-)
Anyway I am off to train some self-destruct skills to use it from this point on ;-)

their risk is small since they pick their fights against mission runners, and they make money off the modules that drop off your ship.

A similar logic could be applied to you. Accept the ransom you're given, or don't take the ransom at all.

According to him you agreed to allow him to pay the 10. But I was not there, if he just dumped 10 mil in you wallet without you oking it then he got what was comming.
But you should have only killed him 3/4 of the way.

Do you confirm you accepted the 10 million as a valid ransom? If yes, you have no business claiming to be a honorable pirate, you used deception to take ISK from the victim.

Pirates have no obligation to keep you alive after a ransom. I would think most ransoms are successful and the victim gets to go free upon payment, but that isn't always the case.
Depends on the person ransoming you I guess. ...

Fair enough, if you asked for 40m and he sent 10m without having you agree to it, I'm actually on your side.

Most prefer to keep their word, since when people start telling their friends that you don't let your ransoms go after paying, they stop paying. Then you ISK source is gone. Pirates want your money, not to blow up your ship.
And yes if you didn't ok the 10 mil as you say then you are in the right.

You have lowered ransom since my ship was worth less then 40 million...I offered 12 million and you asked for 10 which I payed. So how come I did not pay as much as you have asked?
As for offered Drake it was "send me 10 million and I will deliver Drake to you". I asked for contract but your corp refused to make one. So basically you tried to scam me for 10 Mill more. How I can trust some corp that did dishonorable ransom and send another 10 million?

Just never pay a ransom. Just dont. In the end its your word against the member of that group and so hes likely to get the benefit of the doubt.
Heck sting them a little and set your self Destruct if you know your not goin to make it to the dock or gate.
FYI though, you naming and shaming will likely cause some hurt for that pirate group so watch your back for the next few days. -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:

I agree with this unless you agreed to a different price then you are dishonoring a ransom agreement. MIDD are an ok bunch of guys shot at them quite a bit even had them undock a carrier on our 3 bs as we were camping their guys in station

Ermmm fail 'cause some hurt' how exactly they aren't noob pirates they use scouts and pick their targets. Pirates PvP to make ISK and generally they are cautious and damn good at it.
You probably ignored everything I said... *emo rage* so just going to say hi to the guys in MIDD in Hysera.

Edited by: Sin Fae on 09/07/2008 23:29:54 Edited by: Sin Fae on 09/07/2008 23:28:13 Facts as presented are inconclusive.
I have been in both situations a number of times on the ransom side. I would ask for X and the ransomee would give me Y and say "There I sent you the ransom." In those situations I just countdown from 5 and if X does not appear then it goes boom.
If I am in a negotiating mood I always phrase it "Pay me X, do we have an accord?" I usually give them three shots at it and beyond that I feel they are simply stalling them start the countdown. If they can't speak english I simply type 20,000,000 or something and a few hits in structure usually sends the message. That way too, there is absolutely no misunderstanding what the agreement is.
On a side note, if you are the ransomee, (or ransomer for that matter), never accept "I will do [insert something here] later." That never works out. Just deal with cold hard Isk.. (Or in the case of RMT Farmers, goods/ore heh).

No such directory here. I just installed EVE as it is (2 month ago). Didn't touch settings. Too bad. Anyway no point in continuing.I did what I wanted - warn ppl about them. This all fuss is over 10 million ISK. Hardly worth a trouble but since he said he has Pirate honor and can trust him and then betrayed it (he is also CEO of corp with can give you picture about whole corp) I made this post.
Thank you all for replays. I read old post about pirate honor so it seems things changed in meantime. Now I know what to expect.

Every time it's the same old crap, a guy posts a name and shame and then the dishonorable pirate comes here and says "HAHA, there was a typo in the contract making it valid for me to pop your ship and pod you after I took your cash".
Truth is, the whole piracy profession is not in such a good shape that the pirate community can keep taking that kind of crap.
As for the the middle school comedy club, we know what we do don't we? You **** ppl out of money and get away with it. I hope some bigger pirates come knock at your door for jeopardizing the ransom/ransomee trust.

Edited by: Black momba22 on 10/07/2008 02:01:31 Ok first of the procedure for the ransome was as followed
1. capture target 2. ask for money based on normal fit and pricing that the ship has 3 recive pay leave, recieve hateful comments kill, recive nothing for more then 10 seconds kill, recieve lower then asked ransome and alot of excuses kill.
The target in this case paid less money then what we asked for and had alot of excuses such as i only have 12 million and this ship is pure tech one fit( had over 158 mill after inquiry.) Since the target did not follow the above things that we do he got killed simple.
I had thought there was a bit of miscomunication or something so i offered to buy back his ship for 1 thrid of the price and he responded with posting a form about how we do not honur ransomes so now here we are.
I am sorry if the community does not like the way we do things but i do not see a rule book on how to ransome targets and if i had time to waste talking to a target for 10 mins about how he is gonna pay i would have probably already got attacked and killed by his back up which would be just sad.
O i am with mscc but, i forgot how to do the corp ticker thing under my name so yea

that's perfect, now all you have to do is provide the chatlogs as proof that you did not accept 10mill as a ransom and the OP is the dipshit
