Every day I sit among billions of isk... billions among billions of assests one click and drag away. Then... I look at my wallet and see 924mil... and not once have I been tempted to morally screw over the players I've been with for 5 years so I can say I did... on the forums... in a game... with pixels and play money. I have pride and honor... something you will never have in this game or in life.
So really now... who exactly are you trying to refer to when you say, "are people really this stupid?" ... i'd take an honest dumb guy over a dirt cheap backstabber with any day.
Frankly... you're the stupid one. Stupid. |

it`s not about morals and what not , it`s a game dammit , you can play a murdering sadist thieving bastard and that`s awessome ...still...what`s relevant about the op is not that he stole the isk , it`s his attitude . Stealing isk says little to nothing about a RL person , coming here and making a fool out of himself tells me a lot
ANd it IS important (at least to me) to form an ideea about the RL persons I play with because i like to avoid morons and douchebags ...i`m here to have fun and i can have a lot of fun beeing shot at , shooting people , beeing scammed and scamming...however it`s the other player`s motivations that matter . If he`s just here to play the game that`s awessome , let him kill steal pillage **** whatever , game would be oh so lame without "good" BAD guys , if he`s a griefer...meh i don`t want him anywhere near me , because i can`t relate to the type of fun the "griefer" is looking for . making any sense to anyone here?

No. He said the freighter has payed for itself. He may have spent a year hauling garbage to make 800m, and stole 51m.

I think the funniest thing about this thread is all the people who are deluding themselves into thinking that how they act in EvE does not relate to their "RL" characters at all. How could it not? Is it not you making deciscions? Are your "space pixels" actually controlling you, magically altering your personality? You just don't do the things in "RL" you do in EvE because there are real consequences. But keep deluding yourself, it's very entertaining! |

ehm, help me out here... So does this mean you think we're playing a Massively Multiplayer Online Rocket Propelled Grenade?
For all the people that play this kind of game, it's amazing how many of them comprise of the first M, avoid the second, spend all their time in the third, pretend it's the sixth and FORGET THE OTHER TWO EXIST. |

Have you ever heard about *gasp* roleplaying? Games? Ring a bell?
Essentially, you're trying to say that everyone playing monopoly is a greedy capitalist bastard, robbing everyone else of their hard earned possesions. Now that's idiotic, isn't it?
Well, what the hell are you doing whining about scammers/thieves/etc in a game where the point is to rob/kill/defraud your fellow player(s) out of their stuff? Which is, basically, EvE People band together so they can rob other groups of players from their collective belongings (or they're a sucky high-sec corp and need to get robbed/scammed/ganked anyway). Welcome to EvE, noob.

Originally by: khalika i always knew isk was easy to make in EVE, but this week has completely changed my view of the best way to go about it.
i recently join a corp with my industry/freighter alt, after only 3 days of joining the CEO asked if i could move some stuff for him.
upto this point i have been an entirely honest character, but when he gave me a rough idea of the contents i couldnt really resist.
a small (3 or 4 active members) corp with a 7 month old ceo was asking me to move basicly the majority of the corps assets, so he set up a 0ISK COLLATERAL contarct .
turns out the contract never was fulfilled . and my wallet is looking significantly better.
are people really this stupid??? or am i missing something?

I guess comes down to what sort of person you are.
Me I would feel bad for the guy and I wouldnt be able to rob him and his corp, just for getting some ISK.
You find it fun and so did it.
In EVE your free to choose and thats what makes it great.
I would hope him and his corp hunt you down and make you suffer lol |

according to most insurance companies Yes
back to being dishonest in a game. games are something diffrent from rl because they are games. as such anything won or lost within the game is safe, no harm really done. part of it are rules that make games safe. like moving the amount of squares you rolled with your dice and not more. then there are unspoken rules like not loading the dice. so what happened is that someone thought there is an unspoken rule (play nice) and when someone else acts against it the first one will percieve this breaking as something leaving the intention of the game and attacking the rl. what is even more fun if the one breaking the unspoken rule (doesn t matter that it is not really existing) knows he has done so and derives their amusement from this breaking (aka bragging on forums).
oh and a rl comparision if winning is all that matters would you pump yourself full of drugs to win in a sport event as long as you don t get caught?

The RL analogy posters just keep missing the point largely because they relate too closely to their pixels and then attribute the RL rule/moral set to EVE.
This is EVE. Clearly a game. The proper analogy would be : "I guess if one night I was playing Chess and left my rook unprotected, I deserve it if I lose it. Because it's alright for the other player to take it. I didn't protect it."
Comparing EVE to another game makes the complete rubbish of your type of thinking obvious. There are those that play EVE to win and those that don't. You fall in the latter category. You aren't a "better" human being then us degenerate pirates, scammers, high sec war decers, etc. You are simply a worse player. |

the correct analogy would be "one night i was playing in a chess tournament and got beaten because my opponent used a house rule i didn t know about".
if you don t know about the house rule before hand you percieve it as cheating which breaks the game s border to rl. because those rules are part of what makes it a game.
edit: eve being a sandbox need rules we as player impose upon us. in that context the honorably player looses in the ruleset of the dishonest ones and vice versa. there is no better or worse player objectivly. there are only player and people quitting.

But when you enter a tournament, you agree to the houserules(no matter if you read them or not), as you do in eve. And here inside the player guide it states quite clearly that scamming is not illegal. So you were expected to know those rules, as well as you were in a tournament. (of course you expect someone to point you to any unusal rules, and in eve you have to walk with closed eyes and humm real loud to not notice the "dark side") |

Your small change, and you will allways be so... your reputation is your most important comodity and the contacts you make are your life line... 1bill is nothing at all, you could have made it honestly in a few days if you were not so dumb.
Well i hope you enjoy the quick fix... and the next time you screw someone for small paper.. and the next time. "LOL@The person who did it" well.. yeah you can lol at him for trusting you, but the sad thing is he wont do it again for another person, and while you may think thats soft or something... look at the #1 alliance in the game, at the very core its built on trust. Now go look at the other top 5 or so alliance's...
Do you notice something? And this is why people like you will allways be small frys.
While I agree on most of what you said, concerning this scammer-wannabe here, that bolded line above kind of made me laught out very loud.
A guy in BoB is tellimg me that reputation is your most important comodity? That's really rich you know, if you weren't there from the beginning you might want to go investigate your alliance's history, BoB is the epitome of killing one's (once) respected name, the only well-known alliance I know of that's worse is the goons, but they had no reputation of worth to waste to begin with.
As I said, while I agree on your views about the joke of an guy that's the OP, but honestly, taking a good argument like yours seriously get's hard, and that's only because of your alliance's history, and that's a shame really.

then scratch the tournament and replace it with "friendly series of chess games". the first 500 games no house rule and only the 501st player uses the house rule. it s basicly the same as podding after a ransom. some player who ransom don t like it (partly because it would hurt further ransoming) other say it s valid and clever.
i say do what you want, just don t be surprised that player feel cheated when you use "rules" they don t accept as their own and don t brag and celebrate the fact you break those rules even if they don t apply to you. it s sad that player need to validate their ruleset and themselves by disqualifing other rulesets as stupid.
