Essentially, you're trying to say that everyone playing monopoly is a greedy capitalist bastard, robbing everyone else of their hard earned possesions. Now that's idiotic, isn't it?
Well, what the hell are you doing whining about scammers/thieves/etc in a game where the point is to rob/kill/defraud your fellow player(s) out of their stuff? Which is, basically, EvE People band together so they can rob other groups of players from their collective belongings (or they're a sucky high-sec corp and need to get robbed/scammed/ganked anyway). Welcome to EvE, noob.
No sorry you missed the point. When you play Monopoly, Manhunt, whatever, you have only one goal, or one role to play. In Monopoly you can't exactely chose to not buy anything or give your money away, or decide that you are an arsonist and start burning down other people's hotels. If you play Manhut you only have the role of murderer available to you.
In EvE however, you choose what you want to be. You can be the greedy capitalist, or the mass murderer. This choice directly reflects on your personality, because you have the freedom to be whatever you want to be.
And notice how I said it's funny how people are deluding themselves into thinking that their choices don't reflect on them because "it's a game". Never at one point did I judge you for living out your role. And I'll let the noob comment slide because, yes, this is a dirty little alt. Guess that means I'm a little bit of a coward inside, but that doesn't mean I can't argue a point. Also, whining? Where? Please do proceed to blow up all stupid careabears, for the love of GOD!

For all the people that play this kind of game, it's amazing how many of them comprise of the first M, avoid the second, spend all their time in the third, pretend it's the sixth and FORGET THE OTHER TWO EXIST.
What? You just saw that I called you deluded and went into ragemode didn't you? Where did I say that people were not roleplaying? Of course you are. That's exactely my point - you play the role you do because you want to. |

Basically when you wade through all the carebear QQ and the immature 13yr old wannabe n00b pirate responses it all boils down to this: EveO is a game, nothing more, nothing less. The folks that play the pirate or the griefer or the corp thief are not @$$holes IRL it's just the way that they CHOOSE to play their character. Isn't that the nature of a ROLE PLAYING game?
For example, 5 months ago when I started EveO I choose to be a carebear because at the time it suited my play style, a nice slow learning curve that eased me into the game mechanics. Did I have bad experiences? Yes. Did I whine, complain and generally make an @$$ out of myself? No, because it's only a GAME.
At about 6 months I got into the combat aspect of Eve, I figure it was time to get my hands dirty and I'm glad that I did, I can understand why some of you folks are into it, the adrenaline rush from my first kill was absolutely the best :).
Anyway back to the point is that the majority of the "bad guys" in Eve are actually quite decent folks. I remember a few times when passing through Jita I'd see some scammers in action and end up having some great conversations ranging from tips to low/null sec living to RL stuff (technology, politics...etc). All you need to have is a little maturity when talking to people and you'd be amazed at the response you get.
To sum it all up you can't judge a person by how they play their character on Eve.
That's my rant for today :) |

Stealing isk says little to nothing about a RL person , coming here and making a fool out of himself tells me a lot
ANd it IS important (at least to me) to form an ideea about the RL persons I play with because i like to avoid morons and douchebags ...i`m here to have fun and i can have a lot of fun beeing shot at , shooting people , beeing scammed and scamming...however it`s the other player`s motivations that matter . If he`s just here to play the game that`s awessome , let him kill steal pillage **** whatever , game would be oh so lame without "good" BAD guys , if he`s a griefer...meh i don`t want him anywhere near me , because i can`t relate to the type of fun the "griefer" is looking for . making any sense to anyone here?
I agree with you on this, Xeronn.

Question: When you come post in the forums, is it part of Real Life [tm] or is it still part of the role-playing game? Because this guy came to the forums to make sure everyone knew how awesome he was for stealing someone's stuff. Brag about it in Barrens, oops, Jita chat, ok, but when you bring it here, you are leaving the game to tell other people in RL that you are a certain kind of gamer. That makes you a certain kind of person.
As I said before, a jerk. |

Well, you can choose not to play Monopoly, Manhunt, whatever, because you are opposed to capitalsim/brutally murdering people. Alternatively you could, you know, realise that its actually just a game.
Its not really what people do in the game, that reveals their real character, its what they say. |

actually what people do in MMO's is very evocative of what their true personality is like irl. you know the one constrained by the idea that there are consequences for their actions. |

Wrong. Don't mix RL personalities with game personalities, it just doesn't match. It's a game where people can exercise actions they can not in RL. It's like saying every writer of a story involving a murder has a murderous personality, it's roleplay and imagination.
All this "true personality" is BS, it's just a matter of using the imagination.
Little off topic, but I would also like to point out to all the "grow some morale!" people; Morale is highly relative, your morale is dictated from what your parents told you when growing up and varies with time and society. You would be surprised of how many that would flush morale down the toilet if only food and security would have been removed from them. No matter how you put it, humans are an animal in nature, nature is violent and opportunistic, so are humans even tough we can supress the natural instincs with our counsciousness. |
