Currently, once a cyno has been generated there is no way to cancel it out. Which means that even if you kill the ship that made the cyno, it doesn't really matter. I would like an opportunity to:
1. Make it so that for the cyno to be available the cyno ship has to be present. 2. Make it so that the beacon appears in local 30 seconds prior to the cyno actually activating. (Less with recons) 3. Make it so that only a finite amount of capital ships can use a cynosural field from any non-recon. 4. Make it so the Arazu and the Pilgrim have 50% reduction in consumption, and 80% reduction in duration (instead of vice-versa). Alternatively reduce the cargoholds of the rapier and falcon, and increase them in the Arazu/Pilgrim.
This introduces the following consequences:
* A "hot drop" can be nullified by removing the ship making the cyno prior to capital ships jumping in. * Any tactical advantage of jumping in capital ships anywhere can be countered. * You have to clear a path before you jump in the capital fleet to a target. * You have to put a recon-ship in a vulnerable position to be able to move in greater numbers of capital ships. * Gives the Arazu/Pilgrim a more defined role.

How about a sacrificial ship of your own opening up a cyno on the cyno, which gets the ship and pilot instantly killed but vaporizes the cyno like one giant smartbomb?

No hot-drop eh? If the enemy is "hot-dropping," this means there's a considerable friendly presence in the system right? Since when are we trying not to be engaged? It's already bad enough with cyno-jams. Fight fight fight.
Making it easy to kill cyno ships might as well be compared to being able to kill the gate in a system you don't want to fight in. I believe the beacon is there for balance with the fact that with any other ship, when you show up in local, I know with pretty good certainty that you're at a gate.
Best usage of cynos is to kill support ships who warp in naively to check it out anyway

Edited by: MarleWH on 10/07/2008 04:22:14 When our enemies constantly end fights by dropping capitals on small engagements, It makes me agree to this post. But idk.

Err.... when did this change? In the past killing the cyno ship killed the cyno as well I believe. .

Where black ops are involved, this is no longer a certainty. Ref: Covert Cynosural Field Generator and Covert Jump Portal Generator.
I would have linked them but they are not currently in the Item Database web page
