Okay, there are a lots of ideas for the afs, like webbing resist, better weight and so on, but those things would make it more like the ceptors. I think this things are no options, as they would make it only an "ceptorlike" class, which is really not a new role.
So an out of the box idea, a battering ram weapon: A new weapon, what would funktion like: you activate it, than approach to the enemy, till collision. This weapon could be something like a driller/ a sting. After that, some affects could happen, like: - a one time uberdamage, caused by the ramming - sting deployed, now would come some kind of damage over a period of time - you chain yourself with a driller to the enemy, what could give damage over a period of time, + defense for you solong (as you are covered by the enemy ship), + some negative effects on the speed/agility of the enemy (as the enemy would need to fly his and your ship too). You would be chained to the enemy, till you make the driller off, or somebody dies.
Sounds maybe stupid, but for the assault ships, the close combat is not unknown, also the big weight would be useful in such case, and so on... would be just fun. For example, I can imgagine the Ishkur in such a case.

How about really outside the box. Make all there speeds similar say 225 to 285, then make them immune to webs. Then let the assault begin.

If you can't make them go around 1 km/s with an ab/mwd this is just as pointless as their current role.

The ships get four bonuses. Right now one of those bonuses is the higher resists for T2. I don't know of any other ship class that is gimped this way. Make the resists an understood bonus as with HACs and other ships. Then you have some room to work with.
From a minnie point of view: The jag could get a tracking bonus. The wolf could get a web resist bonus. Increase the base speed of the wolf so that it can, with no cap left, at least outpace a BS and have a prayer of warping out. Increase the base speed of a jag so it can maintain range a little better. My $.02.

You don't need to web a ship that slow to hit it. Also most AF have range bonus so they can operate out of web range, too bad they can't maintain the range.
And how web immunity would be of any use for a 100km sniper Harpy? -- Coming to you, Assault Ships fix, by the people saying that the Gallente Recons are fine. |

Making them lighter would not make them like interceptors at all. With same mass as their t1 hull they would end up a lot slower than interceptors (as in not fat enough to speed tank, but fast enough to control range against non naoed up cruisers) and without the disruptor cap use bonus they cannot tackle for even a minute.
IMHO their natural role is damage, and for lack of their 4th bonus even some interceptors are better at this game. -- Coming to you, Assault Ships fix, by the people saying that the Gallente Recons are fine. |

I find using AFs lately for non pvp things. If I want to tackle I use soemthign faster, if I want to roam I use a cruiser and sometimes bc, because the speed difference si not much adn the damage I get better, plus insurance makes my loses ok to handle.
I think they need a buff of some sort. Be it damage, or being able to tackle better. . EVE: "The Hand-holding Age". I need isk!Accepting donations. Renting sig space.Taking various jobs. |

Wow that was extremely out of the box...
Somewhat a good idea, but it could easily be broken and it would be a pain to code.
