My ISP seems to like blocking ports during the day but leave em open during the night for some reason. From about 8:00 in the morning to 1:00 at night I can't connect. The login occurs but after the respective bars have flown by (got units, ships etc) it just drops for no reason. My connection is fine. I wish I could try out other ports but when I do it won't let me connect. I have spoken with my ISP but they are a bunch of idiots who keep saying the same thing over and over so they are of no use. Anyone got any ideas?

i would summise that if you can get past the login and char screen then its not a port issue.
its higly un-common for an ISP to block ports. normaly the only ports bloked by default (if any at all) whould be to prevent open email replays.
if you are un-happy with your isp id suggest changing them...but i dont think you can blame your isp for your eve troubles.
how about posting the name of your isp so that if any other people using the same isp can say if they are also having issues.

We already went through 2 other ISPs before. I live in Tanzania so I doubt anyone else has the same ISP. But if they do, its called Acex. Now before you all yell at me that it's the geographic region that is the trouble, people from as far away as Australia can play this game. There was a thread about South African players not too long ago I thought, might be wrong. But it's always between those times that I can't get on. However, after I login in properly, after 1:00, the login is much much faster. It's always the first login that gives me troubles.

I used to have the same problem. I live in China and every time there was a patch or eve ctd'd it would take an eternity to log in. I remember sitting there for 40-80 mins waiting to log in. Eventually it would and I'd be away. Next time I logged in it would be fine, straight in until the next downtime. The problem it seemed was every time there's a change or something, a whole bunch of stuff gets downloaded before you get to the character screen. Are you stuck mostly on 'Get Roles'? Is so, then that's it. I didn't do anything to fix the problem, it just kinda went away. It now takes around 5 minutes to download all the crap before I can get in so I just make a cup of coffee. I'm not quite sure what to suggest other than starting the eve logger in your eve directory and then starting up eve. This will give you some clue of what's going wrong.

Edited by: Rancid Mare on 22/05/2004 10:16:54 you can try a trace befor and after the change at 1am and see if there are any noticiable differance.
the ip to trace is 157.157.139.10
i suppose you need to look at hop where the traffic leaves your country/ISP
