First off, I would like to thank each and every one of the crews of these pilots for risking their lives to free the Matari. With the help of the Militia, the Minmitar Fleet has freed almost a dozen systems worth of slaves. However, I temper this heartfelt thanks with words of warning, particularly to the capsuleers of the militia.
Over the course of the last few weeks, since the war began, there has been an increase in the numbers of pilots posting on the IGS, of Matari origin, calling for the destruction or genocide of the Amarrian race. This is wrong.
We claim, as Matari, to have the moral high ground. Our brothers and sisters are held, for the most part, against their wills, in bondage to the Amarr. The Amarr believe that they are helping them, by clothing them, feeding them, giving them guidance. We refute that. I am not here to argue which point is right. What I am here to say is that we must, if we claim to hold the moral high ground in this terrible conflict, remind ourselves that we must not stoop to such horrible lows. You claim to hate the Amarr because they say they are culturally superior, and yet, you call for their removal from the galaxy. Is this any better? Are we willing to compromise the very thing that we believe seperates us from the Amarr in the name of vengence, or in bloodlust? I say, we are not. Let us truly take the moral high ground, and remember that a vast majority of the Amarrian people are simply, that, people. Trying to make a living under the system they were born into.
I would also like to make the following point. There is more to war, then strategic objectives. Numbers of enemies killed, numbers of losses on our side, systems taken...these things, while tangible and real, are but part of the great canvas of war. War, I will make no pretend of, is a brutal, horrible thing. But there is more to it then this. We must think of diplomacy. We must think of what happens after the war. When the militia takes control of a system, and the people on the ground look up and watch as the troop ships deploy down, will we be greeted as warriors, men and women fighting for their freedom, or as genocidal conquerers, who kill all those who disagree with our view of the universe? Will we be seen as freedom fighters for the oppressed, or new masters of a different face? What about those Amarr who never owned a slave? Will they see their families and friends killed, mistreated, their property taken? We must win the hearts and minds of people, as well as fighting in the battles. Let us show that we are not evil conquerers hellbent on taking territory and shedding the blood of those who disagree with us, but rather, as those who come to free, to educate, to be honorable in victory! So I ask, please, remember these things. Remember that theirs more to all this then just killing the enemy. We must not turn into animals, striking at eachother in bloodlust and rage.
I also address to the heads of the republic fleet, and to Prime Minister Shakor himself. Please, show us you can lead us into peace from war, rather then only in war. Show us that we are truly in the moral right here, and show us that the deaths we have caused were worth the terrible price that has been payed, and shall be payed further. Don't let these renegades who would commit these war crimes paint us as barbaric animals. Keep a tight leesh on these bloodhounds. Let us not let the death of children be passed off as nothing, simply because we say we are right. Let us prove, without a doubt, that we are in the right. That this terrible blood cost was worth it, and that we have not betrayed the very ideas on which our Republic was founded.

really?
What have the Tribals done other than blow up a few floating buildings? Indeed (and correct me if I am wrong) I note the the sovereignty of the systems are still of the Empire. The planets and stations are still as they were and I for one was not barred from travel through these zones. I don't want to down play any success you may have had...but Grak what exactly has the Tribal Militia done? Not being involved in this Concord boxing match I have not been keeping a close eye on it all, so I may have missed something relevant.

The man makes an admirable stand, reminding his people what I myself and many others have tried to say - that the Matari, and indeed, the Federation, can NOT cast aside their principles and ideologies in this war, like many before have - and all you can contribute, Mr. Bliss, is refuting a small and un-important part of his statement.
Truly, you seem desperate for attackable material now. Did it not fall into good taste that a man who is your enemy made a very wise move and asked for restraint from his people?
This war might rage on for centuries, and I asure you, we would truly wish that Mr. Yarn's words are heeded by all the involved parties by the time this is over.
To Mr. Grak Yarn himself; You make a wise statement, thank you very much for keeping your cool in tihs war. I truly hope your kin follows suit, I've seen too many raving mad-men scream for the opposite by now.

Mr Yarn. Though we have only met on a few occasions, i have the deepest respect for your intellect, and these statements show clearly why.
Though we might have differing opinions on certain subjects, words like these shows clearly that there's common sense to be found still, in the midst of this chaotic war.
Thank you, Mr Yarn, for restoring my faith in the hope that diplomacy and reason might prevail.
Respectfully,

Mr. Yarn, I can't describe how glad I am to hear this transmission! I got your message as well, and thank you, so very much, for proving there are cool and collected sane minds among the Capsuleers.
After my initial meetings here and listening in to the various discussions here, I was starting to fear for my mind. It would be a shame, I think, to spend so long becoming an infomorph, only to find they are all lunatics.

I am glad to see that there are Matari who share my worries; more than once I have considered attempting to move my extended family out of the operations zone of the Tribal Libaration Force for this exact reason. That there are those among the Matari who see this matter in the same light as I do makes me rest easier, especially as recent uspsurges in Amarr-Minmatar violence and movements of non-Empire-aligned capsuleer organizations have made it impossible for the Bestowers fascilitating my family's escape to reach thier homes.
As to Shakor and the Republic Fleet, well...
Shakor hasn't ordered a mass invasion of Amarr/Ammatar space, and although I'm sure many in the Republic Fleet would love to join the fighting, I have yet to hear of either sides' navies becoming involved on the front lines (under orders or as rogues). To me, this shows that Shakor has enough sense in him to realise that an all-out invasion would only lead to more bloodshed. Whether he, and our Empress Sarum, will be able to both see a time and place to end the war, well, I'm no prophet. I do hope they can, though - this war is going to leave more mothers crying over dead children than for live ones.

I may be described as one of the more violent leaders of the Matari force, you can ask anyone who flies in my fleets, I hold no bars be it tactics or targets. My objectives are clear and absolute; "Death to the Empire, we shall burn it to the ground" -- and that's what we've been doing.
With this in mind, let's be precise about the objective. Our target is not the genocide of a race of people, the target is a religion, it is a government. Our targets are the causes of racism, slavery and oppresions themselves, and nothing more. Billions of souls are brainwashed by a lie, countless more are entrapped by those very same souls, who do evil work and claim that it is in the name of good, as if some higher being were to promote thier evil deeds, as if that somehow justified them.
The Amarrian Empire, her culture, and her morales--are corrupt, and it's influence must be stopped. Not an easy task, and nay, as an absolute, it is impossible; you cannot kill an idea. But you can destroy those warships who would kill to promote and further that idea, and there is no doubt in my mind that politicians, clergy and even royalty can be assassinated in the name of freedom.
We do not do the work of God, because God is a Lie, but, despite their best accusations, neither do we do the work of the devil. We do the work of freedom, the work of justice, and nothing more.

Let's face it, you can't target things like 'religion', 'governments', 'racism', etc. You target and kill the religous people, those that govern, the racist. And as the great majority of the Amarr is deeply religous and religion is a fundament of Amarr culture, 'targeting/killing religion' is genocide in this case.
I heard only recently from a racing fan that the participants of the current races were able to pass through systems with Amarr militia fleets entirely unmolested and that you didn't show this restraint towards simple racers, Mr MirrorGod. To me this is simply a rumor, but I wouldn't be surprised to see proof.
The work of justice and the work of freedom are not always compatible and you seem to give the priority to the 'work of freedom', regardless of how bloody and inhumane it ever might be, it seems.
Though we might disagree in some points: Keep it up, Grak!

Perhaps one of the issues here that must be resolved is that the Amarrian religion must be separated from the atrocities the Empire has commited. Many, such as the incredibly cruel mass-enslavement of the Minmatar, cannot be supported by God's tenets except by a reading of said tenets twisted specifically to support said practices. We have fallen a long way from His light, and our Empire has fallen into corruption and sadism accordingly. ----------------------------------------------

Mr. Ogunkoya,
Ranger Yarn is free to talk as he will.
As for the 13th UR, while it does have political ideas that it endorses, they are solely in relation to the betterment and prosperity of the Tash-Murkon region, and all it's people. Udorian, Amarr, Khanid, Ni-Kunni, Ammatar and Matari civilians make up the regions populations. Our stated objective is, and will continue to be, putting forth a best effort against crime, trafficking, and piracy within the region.
Originally by: Arnulf Ogunkoya "The firm would, from it's standings, appear to be aligned with the Ammarian bloc and in particular the Tash-Murkon family. Mr Yarn seems to have commenced working for the agents of said family."
Sir, if you wish to cast doubts as to Ranger Yarn's character or the sincerity of his words, can you do so with factual precedent?
Originally by: Arnulf Ogunkoya "I, however, am entirely clear as to where my loyalties lie and have no qualms about telling others about them."
I think Ranger Yarn is also equally clear in where his loyalties are. And given the concise and carefully considered logical laying out of his argument, why should whom he works with matter? If the words when put together are truth, does whom says it make it less true?
I'd say, address the argument being made, not the person making it. Nationalism isn't a counter argument, and neither is another's choice to not blindly support it. / "Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in getting up every time we do." - Confucius, Chinese philosopher & reformer (551 BC - 479 BC.) |

Well, I think people have covered a lot of what I'm going to say. I don't agree with everything mister Yarn has said on here or in other places, but this I basically do agree with.
It's a flaw with most capsuleers that they're separated from the consequences of their actions and, for a lot of them, always have been throughout their lives. So it becomes easy to talk of bombarding continents from orbit... the casualty figures are just numbers, or pretty twinkles of light in the distance. Annihilate this, destroy that, genocide, blah blah blah... it's all so simple when you can take a coward's path and never have to look at the people you're killing.
As in many things, it's fairly obvious who's had some experience with what they're talking about.

Edited by: Arnulf Ogunkoya on 12/07/2008 01:32:32 I agree with Mr Yarn's notion that indiscriminate slaughter is no way to fight a war or forge a subsequent peace.
I find the idea of a Matari who is not taking the Ammatar way working for the empire very odd however. That said I understand that Mr Yarn feels that he is supporting Mr Nebel's enterprise as part of his obligations to a friend.
This is commendable. However if his work helps the empire mobilise resources to aid in it's war effort it is also, perhaps, regrettable. From the point of view of a tribal that is. Regards,
