Could we please have a chase camera view option, also I have a nifty idea for stearing the ship, I know some people have asked for joystick, but my idea is simular in a way.
In game at the moment, you use the right mouse button to change your camara view then it snaps back to your ship when you release the mouse button, this is a very nice feature and will work well with a fixed chased camara view, but to also add that before it snaps back to your ship it will change the heading for your ship, or perhaps combine it with your left control key.
This could add a feel of more control while in dog fight type battle with small fast ships. I belive this will become popular and may fit in with the future delvopment of eve after seeing video's of on planet flight, |

First off... your "chase camera view" comes from moving the mouse with the Left Click rather than the Right Click. Then the camera will stay where you put it.
Second... Joystick, WASD, or Mouse guidance... will only LAG the system so much you'd cry.
Consider the current system. You double click a point in empty space. Time how long it takes that simple signal to reach the servers, translate into movement, and get relayed back down to you where you see the ship adjust heading.
Now consider that a Joystick or Mouse would constantly be sending signals, covering every teeny tiny wiggle you made, and trying to reflect that in-game.
Then take that constant data stream, and multiply it by about 35,000 players at any given moment.
As I've said a great number of times, usually in response to this exact same idea being brought up...
YOU, behind the keyboard, are not the pilot of the ship. YOU are in essence, the Captain. There is an actual person in that ship, who has taken months of Skill Training in order to pilot that ship. That's why it seems to move on its own. YOU are relaying orders, like "Orbit that rock" or "Approach that station" and the little person laying in a pod filled with goo is doing the flying. ---

I would just be happy with the option of having the chase camera remain in the position you had it last. If you had it looking forward from the rear of the ship, if the ship turns, so does the camera to keep it facing forward. I don't like this business of turning and it continues to face the same way so now you are looking at the side of the ship and have to manually move the camera.
It also helps with travel as it faces forward and shows you where you're going instead of what you're passing on the way. It would also help with orbiting because the side view would always be the side view and you could focus on your target without constantly having to move the camera to keep the target in view. -- There's a simple difference between kinky and perverted. meh, I prefer the current system but an option would be nice. __________________________________________________ |

The steady camera angle... I can agree with. It would be nice if the camera remained oriented based on the ship, and not the space around you. Set a multi-jump AP, and watch as your camera stays steady while your shuttle turns every which way for new gates.
Having the camera focus on targets is easy. There's an option in the ESC menu, that allows for advanced camera control. With that on, you can designate a target as Parent or as Interest. That'll keep you looking at it, even while orbiting.
The only issue I see is the mouse guidance. But I suppose if you're content to have a Chase Cam, and double click ahead of the ship, then it's no different than now. But trying for precision control, like the ship following each mouse sweep, wouldn't work out well. That's all I'd see going wrong. ---

He wants an alternate way to doubleclick.
Example: Current: You swing the camera to look to your right with the left mouse button, then doubleclick in space to change direction.
His idea: The camera is locked in chase mode. You hold right mouse button to look right and at the moment you release the right mouse button, a "doubleclick" is sent to the server, the camera swings back to chase and you start turning to your right. So there are no additional commands to the server in any way. Just a slightly more accurate way to control your ship.

I think a Chase Camera ~alternative~ would be interesting. But I wouldn't want it constantly locked that way.
And this new method of steering could be an option to toggle, but again I wouldn't want that to be the only means.
The reason the camera floats about, according to the lore, is a tiny Camera Drone that orbits the ship. It's there to let you examine the ship itself as well as let you visually scout the area. If you could only see the rear end of the ship, you'd have to realign to look around. ---

How about it then CCP, chase camar view option where your view changies as your ship tuns |

Edited by: Xindi Kraid on 03/08/2008 09:29:34 There are many different situations so I would like many options. For starters I think it would be nice to have a mode where the camera can be locked relative to the ship's heading in which case you move the camera behind you ship and have chase view but not so restrictive as just chase view. The second mode will lock you camera in the direction you leave it (the current system) and a third mode locks the camera around your ship but facing a specific target, clicking on the view object in this mode would move the camera drone to the object and follow your ship, either way your ship and your target remain in your field of view.
Additionally it would be nice to be able to have the camera in a fixed position following either you or your target or even nothing. In this mode the camera would be moved with the wasd keys. Also this isn't necessarily a camera thing but It would be nice if the numbers on the tactical overlay were staggered so I can tell which is which without having to zoom 50Km out. Its very useful for ranging but at close zoom its worthless since the numbers ram into each other.
Something that might help that is if I can have the camera slightly higher or lower than the ship which could be accomplished by allowing us to move the camera downwards then using right clicking to drag the camera's direction parallel to the ship.
To sum up we need a choice of camera modes to suit the current condition --Bird of Prey: Forum God
