I'v been playing about a year, but i never really got into mining until a few weeks ago, luckily when i first got involved i managed to train up to a barge, so i guess i had a bit of a kick start.
However, i was never really taught how to mine safely, people kept shouting about jettisoning cargo etc. but recently iv had people claiming my jettisoned containers as theirs, and im not eally sure what my options are, short of using a secure container, which obviously has a lower capactity. I tend to mine in High sec, recently 1.0 due to the laziness of not dealing with Rats :)
Please, any help would be greatly appreciated

Best option in high sec if you can not hold mine in a hulk is use a secure can to transfer to a hauler on station to pick up the ore.
takes 2 to do it, but you lose no ore to thieves.
Secure cans really only work well for frigates/cruisers with their size (fill it up and move to the next... then come back once all are full and pick up the ore)

I've never had a problem with thiefs in systems with less than 20 pilots.
Clearly you're mining in the wrong places (0.9 also has no rats).
Also if they steal your ore, do nothing (even if you can shoot them, they will probably come back and own you). __________ // Ingenting |

Ok, there are various options:
1) move to an out of the way place that doesn't attract griefers 2) mine in conjunction with a hauler (either one of your own alts or another char in your corp). If doing so in a high theft area use a SINGLE GSC as a secure transfer medium (remember to pw it) 3) mine mission ore (they can still come and grief you but at least you're making them work for it) 4) learn exploration and mine hidden belts 5) outfit a hulk with expanded cargoholds and cargohold optimization rigs and simply go back and forth with your hulk after filling up the hold. This is slower as you sacrifice mining speed for safety but good in a high griefer area.
Option 3 is generally the least disturbed (especially away from usual mission hubs).

quick questions, 1) what is mission ore? 2) do you know any good guides for exploration, I think this would be interesting to do in addition to mining but have no idea of how to even start it.

1) Some combat missions have belt asteroids in them (along with the usual rats and structures). 2) There's alot of guides in the "Missions and exploration" section. Some links; Long and thorough Short but not great Video (my personal favourite)
