I dunno why they never hit upon this, but did anyone ever use unmanned frigates or drones that carried huge engine and powerful explosives that they used to kamakazi ships? It seems to me like someone would have hit upon the idea sooner or later, but yet there is no mention of it beyond the "Vampire" chronicle, where the drone rams a ship and kills it. Am I just being dumb or am I sounding reasonable?

Kamikaze. For love of all that is lolicon and holy, it's kamikaze, not kamikazi/.
Such thing exists. They have phallic shape and Caldari love spamming them like Alternate Health Program pamphlets in train stations.

Because as an in game mechanic, it would be too exploitable.
Now, I'm all for ramming MANNED craft into things, because that incurs the player a penalty (That whole death thing). If you want to blow something up so badly you're willing to pay the consequences of dying to do it, I'd be all for that.

you have basically described what a missle is. an unmanned engine with a bomb.

according to the backstory, the first drones that the Gallente used against the Caldari, during the war, were essentially mines that could move and home in on a target, then explode when close enough.
I think that's as close as you get.

i actually asked this in game the other day.
i'd quite like the idea that, after learning certain skills and perhaps applying a module, that you could set a collision course if your ship was on the brink of destruction.
this would add two further dimensions: 1. using your ship to inflict damage, rather than simply sitting there waiting to die 2. adding an extra threat to capital ships that must be dealt with. ie. an oppo battleship is nearing the end has has decided to ram your titan, the rest of the fleet needs to divert firepower in order to ensure that the BS does not reach its target. Pretty tense situations in opinion.
like i said, this would have to be correctly implemented to prevent people just ramming perfectly healthy ships into enemy players. perhaps developing a theory that unless the shields and armour are down that the shields would in fact prevent splash damage and therefore make a kamikaze run inneffective?
who knows. but its worth looking into. ____________________________________ LAI DAI INFINITY SYSTEMS |

When I started to play this game, I expected that bumping one ship into another (or some structure, asteroid etc.) will cause shield to drop down more or less, depending on speed and masses of the two colliding objects. Which would also mean that ship could be destroyed upon collision in some extreme circumstances, for example if the speed is really great and there is no shield and armor to protect hull.

Hmm, that would give WTZ (warp to zero) a whole new risk vs. reward weighting.

Interestingly enough, I just saw some Minmatar Kamakaze ships in a mission today. They were ramming an Amarr station, they only last about 15 seconds from the time you warp in. |
