ok this is my first attempt at this (not sure it's the right place to post this). Just had this idea and wanted to share it, use this idea as you like:
A Call to Arms
An open letter to the pod pilot community by Chris Stormrider
So, here we are, again, in crossroads. You can feel it, the winds of change are blowing: the cold war, the ascend of the alliances to power, the breakthrough in so many technologies that we've almost lost count of. We knew war was coming, and we wanted it, badly.
So, here we are, in an empyrean age, and we've become addicted to fighting. Some times it doesn't matter why, maybe it never did. But there is always a reason. The terrifying realization that I want to share with you is that there is a master plan. And we're the pawns, in this game.
You've all heard this story, it begins with a long-lost relative of ours, bearing gifts, starting a new era of space travel. Giving us the cocoon that will transform us one day in a space faring butterfly. Then, this relative of ours, disappears again, back to the uncharted territories. It planted the seed a few new class inside our community, the pod pilot, the freelancer. We became the most prominent amongst our people, the most wealthy, the most knowledgeable, the most powerful. We also, became immortal. We became giants, walking amongst the stars, when others walked through pebbles in the planets below.
But the factions kept their distance from us. They didn't trust us. They gave us space to use, that they didn't want. They gave us tasks to do that they wouldn't. They let us mine the belts they had already stripped of the most precious ore. And of course, we fought amongst ourselves, like humans always do.
That is how the years passed. Everybody kept playing their game of power struggle, us and the empires and simple people alike. Except the Jovians, our distant cousins. They are the only ones that don't care for power, they don't care about any of us, as far as we know. Or do they?
Do you think it's coincidence that suddenly we are welcome to join forces with the factions, in their struggles? That the people who control the governments have all changed? That we are no longer outcast, but their best hope of victory?
I say to you know, that we have let our guard down and trusted the ones we know the least of. We have embraced their technology. We even look up to them for more gifts. But instead, we have trapped ourselves inside our pods, that which makes us unique, that which makes us immortal. And we dare not admit it, even now, that we're living in a cage of our choosing. But, we're just what Jovians made us. And we owe everything to them.
I call upon our scientists to give us the means to build a new kind of pod, that will allow us to walk again on the soil that our friends and families walk. To be human, once more. Most importantly, a pod that will be devoid of Jovian software and parts. A pod that cannot be used against us.
I call upon the factions and the alliances to restore peace, to stop destroying our own defenses and own ships. To tend to the wounded, in body or spirit.
I call upon you, the pod pilot, to prepare, because the worst has yet to come. Build your strength, build your knowledge and equip your ships, for we are already vulnerable as we are. Stay awake in the night of space. Stay alert to listen the call when it arrives, the call to defend everything we know. The call to arms

Only the old pod pilots before tech advance where limited to space only. Having never been on a planet since being a pod pilot I am not too sure if this is true. Anyone want to land there ship and see what happens?

You can certainly leave your pod on board stations, so I don't see any reason why you couldn't then go down to the planet.
Most modern spaceships are not designed for atmospheric work though.

it's a "give us ambulation already!" kind of thing :p not to be taken literally :p
but yes, I wasn't sure if one could or couldn't so I assumed the worst case scenario, since this is meant as a doomsayer's open letter ;)

I do recall something from years back saying pod pilots are stuck in space. But been unable to find any reference to this. Chris Stormrider where did you read it? ____ Telltale sign of their presence is non-linear teleportation (www.eve-online.com/races/theodicy/Theodicy_All.pdf)

I went back to the scientific article regarding pods and couldn't find anything suggesting that leaving the pod is difficult. Even did a quick search around but nothing conclusive either way. I was pretty sure it wasn't possible, due to the hardwiring to the pod and all, but maybe I just dreamt it or something.
sorry for the assumption, it pretty screws up the original post at a couple places. In any case, since it's my first try all comments are welcome, especially on the writing style (english isn't my native language) and if it's too silly, etc.
PS. I got inspired from an e-on article, if you like to blame someone, encouraging people to write :P

Pretty sure your first post isnÆt wrong. There was something, somewhere saying you can get out of pods but cannot go back down to planets. Once a pod pilot stuck in space. But for the life of me I cannot find it. ____ Telltale sign of their presence is non-linear teleportation (www.eve-online.com/races/theodicy/Theodicy_All.pdf)
