Hi mr condescending BOB COAD spunky flame alt.
The article itself was criticizing a fellow journalist who wasn't being objective with their report. That in itself is a valid subject for an article. ISD is for reporting on Eve events but not being a bulletin board for alliances.
But he simply went too far with his anti-BOB and CCP rant. |

What do you regard as being fair? Fraternizing with devs and get knowledge of game mechanics before everyone else? People are still sensitive when it comes to favoring BOB. If you want to play a game and have fun it should be on an equal level for everybody. And CCP has to be very carefull not to upset this because in the end their jobs are on the line.

I agree fully with this. That's why I made that post regarding the T20 scandal. Thing is, that should be behind us now. CCP have implemented several fail safe systems to prevent it from happening again. I can understand that a lack of trust in CCP is lingering, but if you STILL think that CCP are screwing you over, after almost two years, you really should quit playing the game.
CCP are slow learners. And I think we've come full circle on this topic because the heart of the matter still lingers. ISD reporters shouldn't be a bulletin board for any alliance. Thy can do reports on it but they shouldn't be biased like this article. There shouldn't be a need that we remind them but that they should be able to figure that one by themselves.
As to the trust thing. CCP showed they could better themselves. BOB didn't and gets burned for it. Fair enough. But you those groups aren't whom to blame but those individuals who crossed the line. And most of them got away with it and knowing those a holes are still logging in makes you wonder why they even bother anymore. |

Sorry to keep dragging this up but I really like to react to what Deckard said here. In fact there still is more to be said on this particular topic.
Originally by: ISD Deckard Bishop The IC has complete control over the player news. We choose topics, we contact players, we approve and publish articles. CCP do not check or approve articles unless it contains something that will effect the games official backstory/fiction.
The general public regards you in the same camp as CCP (CCP pets so to speak). So being impartial is part of that as well.

The bulk of the 'MAX' article referred to is based on quotes. Reporters do not put their own opinions into articles, they report other peoples opinions.
It is unfortunate that when we write about corp 'x' or alliance 'y' there is a tendency to believe that just because we mentioned their name we are now bias or advertising!
Its still biased or poorly written. Lets take the header of the article. Its a quote so it should have been in the line of 'BOB leader announces: the max age has begun' since that was a quote.
A few lines along it does mention Shrike. And not everybody knows this is Molle's alt and leader of BOB alliance. It should have been mentioned. Because now it suggests that the writer is on speaking terms with Shrike.
For the quotes. The contain the essence of the BOB statements but also added extra's of propaganda like 'nothing is safe... everything burns' or '[They're] well protected, and in no danger.'. But by giving the reader more than the essence of these quotes it gives the impression of a bias and that the whole reason why people suggest the writer of the article was biased.
As to the 'other side' thats someone from IAC who claims to be sceptical about MAX but IAC isn't involved (yet) so it would have been better to contact someone in the nothern region where the campaign is aimed at.
So all in all this article was in journalistic terms pretty poorly written and seen by many people as being biased towards BOB for a good reason.
And you might think when IRON gets in the limelight you'd see the views and quotations from their side. But check out that article that is written by the same author.
This article is completely in the line of the previous one. It briefly mentions what is happening but its once more being heavily biased towards BOB and the GBC. Shortly quoting IRON and RA but letting one EXE quote a whole paragraph of his viewpoint.
This journalist ISD Magnus Balteus is either being incompetent at his job and writing these terrible articles or he is lacking the objectivity which is required being an ISD reporter. In fact I suggest that these matters should be investigated by ISD and they should prohibit any more of these journalistic travesties.

On a more serious note, we are proud of our ability to publish news that is interesting, relevant and non-bias. We take great pains to get viewpoints from all involved parties when writing articles.
As any writer will tell you, some people will like your articles, and some will hate them. Criticism is a fact of life for a reporter. The Tribune (and anyone else for that matter) and its writers are welcome to write whatever they like.
An this is a good thing. But I'm disturbed by the fact that this goes deeper than being a bad reporter. |

You're basically showing the same narrow minded view as the OP. Shortsight 4TL. The Tribune 'rant' wasn't about BOB but about professionalism of CCP and affiliates.
In fact BOB or any other alliance can't help that individuals cross the line and profit from favoritism. Being a power player, going to fanfests, the old boys network, getting into ISD and trying to get a job at CCP. Its all intertwined into a mix where people might be loosing touch of reality and getting tempted by fame, power or even cold hard cash. Pherhaps you should do some research on Tetrimon story to know what I'm talking about.
You can't give it a rest because just like with RMT it will aim at destroying the fun everybody is having. It's not a holy crusade for the highest of truths. In game you can choose yourself what ethics you like to disregard but people tend to forget that this doesn't apply out the game. It's nothing more than using common sense and not crossing that line. |
