But the op is right. You should read the tempest + large projectiles thread and POAST your support.
But seriously please don't post until you have read the thread (even if you are posting in support), I know it's long but I think it's well worth it.

Euhm, right. And how is it better than a sniper apoc? Pest just sucks.
But minnie got enough other ships that are good without being nano'd. 1600mm rupture of course, thrasher (that is important for FW people), rifter and not to forget the hurricane.

I didnt remember to state it should be able to take onto oother BSs and sniping isnt really viable solo with the alphanerf, as tempest even can't one-volley unitted blackbird.
Broadsword is kinda good, but thats in 0.0. I dont do 0.0. Muninn is outclassed clearly by eagle but does okayish.

yeah clearly geddon is a lot better solo ship than phoon. NOT.
its funny the phoon is the one really decent minmatar bs it doesn't deserve a boost unless maybe its a tiny bit of fitting.
now tempest thats another issue and you'll see lots of support for an overhaul and a look at projectiles in general around here.
as for if ccp is going to ignore it. it took them 2 years or so to fix amarr so a bit of patience is probably recommended.

God-damn I'm so sick of hearing these.
Fashion trends for ships come and go. Suddenly everyone is ragging on the Tempest. 18 months ago everyone was talking about long-range alpha being the most important thing and how a fleet of Tempests was the optimal thing to have for locking, popping a ship in one cycle and switching, and how Minmatar ships are the best. Now, suddenly, for exactly the same reasons, it's "hands down the worst bs in the game..."
So many 2 year old Empire muggle brainless cookie-cutter idiots who just follow the trends of what it says in Ships and Modules forum these days.
A well fitted Tempest is a GOOD SHIP. There, I said it. Anyone who doesn't agree can come down into Catch and sit at optimal away from my corpmate Svetlanna's tempest and see what happens.

Two options there: they have to sit 3km from AC's or they'll sit at optimal from arty and get hit by pretty pathetic dps. It might work if they aren't in a battleship and don't shoot back.
And tbh, if you don't even fly it (assuming your buddy does), you really don't know how good the ship is. While it was the rage before, things have changed since then that have made it very sub-par. In the day of gank/tank battleships, it has neither.

Tempest is a good solo BS compared to the others because of agility, speed, 2 extra high slots for SBs (against ecm drones) and heavy neut (to kill frig tacklers). It is versitile and that is what you need generally. It is not bad at all for this job.
Sure if you know what youre up against and want to bust a camp vs a stronger force or alike tempest might not be the best choice. But heck, use its strengths. ----------------------------------------- [Video] I'm a soldier, so remember the name |

It's agility isn't very good.
Quote: speed
Means next to nothing on a BS, but okay
Quote: 2 extra high slots for SBs (against ecm drones) and heavy neut (to kill frig tacklers).
Okay, that's useful, but now it's got DPS in the pitiful department.
Quote: It is versitile and that is what you need generally. It is not bad at all for this job.
I might buy that when it could fit med slots with ECM. Highs with nos. It's not agile enough and doesnt have enough range/tracking to act as an anti-support role. It doesn't have the tank or damage to do what other battleships do.

You're trying to make it sound survivable, but the neut and smartbomb will only get you so far. It will fold once you get a second point, or a heavy point.

omg you guys are all raggin on the ships I love to fly, but I don't know anything but Minnie tbh, and I admit I tend to choose a build and hone it instead of trying anything new.
But for pvp (and my pvp is fleet ops), my BS of choice is a remote rep Tempest with none of it's own reps but a plate, TE and Gyros, MWD, SB's and TC's. How bad is that? It flies only with a blob.
And I've been falling for the Muninn, but a 650 build which feels like King from 15 to 40. No plate, just a repper and Gyros again. Someone said the Eagle is better though? I was wondering about that since it grew a 5th turret hardpoint but I didn't know.
1600 Ruppie,.. god I hate the idea of plate on a cruiser,...

Your tempest does less gank/tank than other battleships. I guess if you aren't worried about that, well, it's not that bad, haha. But otherwise, another BS would probably fill that role better.

If you noobs had any training at all in projectiles and Minnie bses you would see another side to the tempest. I know for a fact i can still insta pop a cruiser with proper fittig. Stop going by what empire noob pirates say cause half of em cant pvp anyways. Should start listening to those who still fly the things and have the skillpoints to match. It's already been said minnie ships require the most SP to use effectivly so heres my opinion start training noobs and learn how to play.

This is the truth. I have seen Svet's Tempest in action in many dif places and anyone that has the sp's can fit one to do the same thing.
I recently flew a Muninn as a low sec gate camp ganking ship and it rocks. My fitting could tank sentrys and still do massive damage for a cruiser size ship. lol..i guess you could say I have witnesses
What im getting at is something that has been said in this thread and many more. If you have the skills and fit it right..you can make just about any ship good for the way you fly it. Solo or fleet.

Have you ever flown an eagle? Zealot? Geddon?
You can say it's good, but you're only able to compare minmatar ships to other minmatar ships. Which means you can't objectively say it's balanced. The numbers don't favor minmatar at all.

Typhoon if properly skilled, is one of the if not the best bs class. now bear in mind, this is being said with proper abilities.
I personally run a plated phoon, sporting 425 & siege II's. With the ogre II's and proper high dps ammo, (hail/rage) it pushes around 1066 dps, very similar to either the gank mega or abaddon, and not needing cap to fire well, your dps isn't going to fail to capacitor warfare.
Also leaving the option to mix and match torps or projectiles with heavy nuets, leaves room for a change.
The hurricane is also a great platform. If setup with a 2x mar setup it gets the job done.
The tempest is in reserve for fleet duty, although venturing in a dual rep ac setup is a good time as well. But I would honestly rather have my enemies screaming, "OMG that huge flying trashcan of a phoon is meling my phace!!"
The muninn as well is set to what it does best, arty. I tend to keep these as well to the gate camp or fleet duty.
The sleip is nice as well. I do not nano my setups, but it is sometimes done. But it is a respectable ship with out nano-ing.
I prefer the jag over the wolf for af's. Using a ac jag as mainly a heavy tackler. Especially agaisnt those laZor boats. Arty wolf is right at home at gate camps.
And yes, I played eve as a minmatar only fanboi for about 2 years, so I have a firm grasp on how to handle my scrap metal and duct tape in space.

I don't think there is really any good solo ships that aren't nanoed. The whole idea behind successful soloing is being able to run from anything you can't kill, pretty hard to do if your ship is slow.
If your soloing in a slow ship, the first small gang you come across will easily kill you.

First, this is silly. Hail is simply an awful ammo and rage is even funnier. A realistic fit is barrage/CN torps. A quick look at EFT says I can get 1138 DPS at 4.8km. Not bad, but completely outdone by a mega until your torps don't work. Mega will keep you outdamaged until about 18km or so, where your torps will fly with max skills. After that, you lose about 625 DPS.
Second, a raven can do the same exact thing, only with more DPS and longer range (at a loss of 3k EHP). Plus, it doesn't have to piddle with named mods to get the CPU to work. Both fits include a MWD, painter, and scram. On top of that, the raven has completely changeable damage types (yeah, more than your phoon) to exploit any perceived hole in the target. To top it off with a cherry, the raven requires less SP, has 2 high slots for offlined-smartbomb overloading goodness, and has less damageable (drones) DPS.
Quote:

Pitiful tank on a double MAR setup, but the hurricane is a good ship, yes.

Outdone by all other ships in both fleets and close range setups. Yes, ships look cool, but that's not a balancing point.
Quote:
The muninn as well is set to what it does best, arty. I tend to keep these as well to the gate camp or fleet duty.
It's outdone at range, so it's only viable for close range, interceptor popping. Even the hurricane is mighty close at that. If you miss the first volley, you're pretty much useless too.

Pest is still one of the most versatile bses ingame- in mix & match gangs (gatecamps/Posspammage with "visitors") it can easily be fitted for just about every task imaginable, is a nightmare for rr gangs + it's cheap. You really start to aprecciate the Tempests when you have a couple of them sitting among your snipers with hvy neuts to get rid of hictor points and other tacklish stuff (which is the reason why tempests get primared after scorps by many FCs).
What's next? My Domi can't snipe that well?
As for other ships that work out tanked: Ruptures are awesome for people with small wallets and cyclone/hurricane are probably the "best" BCs ingame, even without nano (+ probably the only BCs somebody actually fits a gangmod on without feeling strange) Not too sure about the Munin- it's kinda subpar, but only because of all the nano-stuff flying about.

Well, yeah. Except the utility slots were nerfed, so now you have some sub-par DPS with a sub-par tank, with your choice of RR, Neuts, or a smartie. Nos used to be a good choice, but no longer.

I don't know that I've ever seen a sniper pest with neuts. I certainly can't imagine how you'd fit them along with sniper gear and still hit at 150km. Maybe if you sacrifice all your lows. Generally they're primaried for their crap tank.
Quote:

I'd have to disagree. The cyclone is pretty much useless (you can dual LSE the cane for shields), and while the cane is an excellent ship, so is the harbinger, drake, and even brutix.
Quote:

I don't know if this is in reference to the muninn being non nano-able (Yeah, you can't nano a muninn, whoever you were), or having trouble against nano stuff, but it's only strength is popping inties at short range. Where the hurricane can do the same job. AC fit is cool for "versatility" points, but it's nothing but an expensive rupture.

The advent of eft killed the tempest, now instead of flying the things people look at statistics and make a decision, eft is a handy tool but I would rather not have it if the trade off is not having to read shit threads like this.

No, if you nit-pick at any ship you'll find problems with it, EFT is just the tool used to nit pick at ships so that people can whine about them on the forums, I've seen tempest do things that no other battleships could possibly do, like falloff tempests burning at 2k or 3k sec away from a gang annhilating tacklers approaching it, or 1200mm poly pests burning off a gate at 3k a sec 2 or 3 volleying falcons, or tempests fit with 2x heavy neuts and 6x guns and ecm drones making piece meal of other bs's like geddons who cant inject fast enough to keep up with the neuts, or dual eccm tempests jumping into recon camps and killing them all.
but NOOOOOOO eft says its dps is subpar so :whine:

TBH I haven't seen a single complaint that says simply its DPS sucks so it sucks. If you don't read all of the complaints, then perhaps you come away with that. There are entire threads on the subject, many pages long, and I'm pretty sure people haven't just posted 'low DPS EFT ZOMG' over and over and over again.
You talk about nano'ing it, but I can't see that doing very much except depleting your already poor tank. I've been wrong before, but looks to me like a nano'd phoon would still be better, and these days I tend to plate my phoon anyways rather than nano. I agree that neuts in the highs are a good way to go, but that alone isn't going to always be enough to defeat a ship with superior gank/tank. Unless he forgets to turn his MWD off, heh, I think it'll take a while to cap him out when he's boosting, even with 2 neuts. Especially if you're fitting polycarbs and nano mods, heh, your weak tank is going to be even weaker, and while it's not 100%, I'd say you have a good chance of popping well before you cap out that Geddon you talk about.
I don't think it's a terrible ship, nor do I think it's a useless ship. But I think it needs a little something. To be perfectly honest, the fact you've seen a ship do something before is much less convincing, at least to me, than objective evidece put forth by EFT warriors/analysts. While I'm not saying this is the case with you, heh, it just sounds all to much like "I saw it kick ass in a video once so it must be balanced." While some fits can excel in some situations, those same fits in other situations would simply get trounced (the nano artillery you mentioned comes to mind, heh).
Just my $0.02, but I'd like to see the ship get a small boost. Although honestly, I'd rather see projectiles, at least large projectiles, get looked at by CCP, and afterwards they can see if the tempest needs anything extra or not. At present, however, it's one of the weakest BS out there in my mind.
