So I took up the offer for 14 days of new play after 2 years. Woke up in a place I cant even remember having docked in Catch. Cant access fitting station. So I try to make my way back to empire but get shot to pieces. Bye bye apocalypse. So where is the fun hiding? 14 day offer seems give me nothing but grief. Guess Eve is as hostile towards solo play as it ever was.

. . . Awaiting more and hi-bit rate music - with bated breath ...

well it was probably a Player owned station -
so getting out would alway of been difficult
you could of
1) Clone jumped
2) spoken with the locals explaining your situation
3) left in a pod right after DT

but 0.0 and solo is always going to be hard

0.0 is lawless pvp-open zone where people go to shoot each other to bits and pieces

so .... did you never read the rookie guide to 0.0 space and seriously did know this, or are you just bitter over your Apoc loss and decided to blame the game for your failures?

Totally, at least I cant have 14 days of quality whine time on the forums. Hey, it was CCP who buggered me with their "come back and enjoy our incredible fun "root canal without anesthetics"-gameplay. Im grateful I was rewarded instantly with the most annoying aspects of the game. Cuts out a lot of wasted time rediscovering it.

Yep CCP totally forced you to try out their return offer and can subsequently be blamed for your lack of preparation on your voyage through Null-sec back to Empire. Your Apoc's blood is on CCP's hands.

What do you expect, flying around in a Apoc with probably ancient fittings in 0.0 with the added bonus of the pilot not having been in the game for 2 years...

And then you blame the game for dying...

What is the name of the game genre again? Massively something Online.. Oh well, I can't seem to remember it right now but maybe OP will remember it.

Also, you have forgotten how to play the game, more or less, and instead of going "hmmm, maybe I should check what have happened since then and read up on some stuff", you decide to say "Alrighty then, let me undock somewhere in 0.0 in an area I have no recollection of and in a battleship with a big 'SHOOT ME' sign on it" and then come on GD and whine about it? Not my first choice when it comes to strategy, tbh.

He played for longer than 14 days, obviously. The 14 days he's talking about are the ones offered to inactive accounts when the Empyrean Age expansion was released.

Lmao. I don't know if you know this, SkunkyMcGenius, but every MMO company on the face of the earth has "inflated subcriotion figures." This is because they always count people with multiple paid accounts as seperate individuals.

What the never do, however, is count trial accounts, or non-paying accounts in their key meterics. Which means, incidentally, that the OP isn't being figured into CCPs total subscription numbers, nor is anyone else back in eve for any limited promotion.

He'd only be counted once he either added play time with a GTC or paid the old fashioned way.

Your CCP flaming = epic fail. And one, as always, wonders why you continue to play a game that, through your attitude and actions, you have demonstrated that you clearly loathe.

Yah, not a lot of skill training. Not a lot of isk-collecting either. Think I have a power of two-alt account somewhere. My char had cobwebs in her now eliminated implants. I scooted around a bit in my alt somewhere in Tash-Murkon. Looks prettier than before, but after taking that battleship ISK I didn't have the heart for another veldspar grind.

I think you were naieve to think you'd be able to fly around 0.0 unmolested. But, I do sympathise with you if you were dumped there 'because it was where you had a ship you could fly' for your first day back.

Perhaps with hindsight you could have petitioned a dev as 'stuck' and asked to be moved. If you explained how you got to be where you were then I'm sure they wouldn't have had a problem acquiescing to your request.

Failing that, you should have podded yourself and got back to empire 'safely' and left your apoc on sale in 0.0; Surely you didn't forget that aspect of travel after two years?

Give it another try. Maybe even try the tutorial again, it's much better than when you left. If you need a hand in game, give me a shout. I've got a few ships and bits you could have to get you on your feet again.

It shouldn't be too hard to get out of 0.0 in a pod or frigate. Set you auto-pilot to Rens or something (avoid Jita!) and make sure you pay attention all the time. Don't use the auto-pilot to travel. Just use it to plot the route for you, then travel manually along the path it recommends (or better yet, find a different path if possible). Use Jump-to-zero at every gate. If you log in right after downtime you should be able to travel at least 10 jumps before people get their blockades up and running (Hint: downtime often ends 10-20 minutes before the stated 12:00 GMT). Spread the travelling over several days if needed.

The only time you have to worry is if you find yourself in a warp disruption zone after jumping through gate. Then you'll have to move out of the warp disruptor range before you can warp. This can be tricky if you're in a pod. If you're in a frig with MWD you should be ok unless the gate campers are professionals (which is quite rare).

Good luck and welcome back to EvE!

I meant the log in server figures that people generally refer to to judge success of the game at any given time - which will of course log all the doods who played for a week 8 years ago and will now log back in for a free 14 days

Also stop acting all superior because you worked for a failed MMO once -you dont have to kiss CCP's ass about everything

Stuff

The log-in numbers? Are you serious? First of all, as far as I know EVE-online is one of the only, if not THE only MMOs that actually show you how many people are logged on at any given time.

Other games sometimes, tell you what the current server load is. I.e. they say things like "light" and "medium" and "heavy." This is most decidely not "this server now has X players logged on."

Most often with other games you get this information once, when you are choosing a server on character creation, though some games do inform you of the server loads when you log in.

Also, I'd like to point out that log-in numbers are not typically used to justify the success of failure of a game. What is used is key metric numbers, which basically for the sake of discusion here is total number of subscriptions. So when Blizzard is bragging that it has 14 million players (or whatever the number is now days) they are refering to the number of total paid subscriptions, NOT the number of people logged onto WoW at peak game time.

And as far as eve's log-in numbers go, when I started playing eve the number always hovered around 12,000. Now I routinely log-in to 30,000 players. Even at 1am PST (West Coast United States) the number is usually around 19,000... which is a full 7,000 more than I used to see at peak play time. Thus, I find it highly doubious that you're going to try and argue that eve's log-in numbers are, by in-large, false and do not represent (in some way) a growth in the eve-online player base.

I will also take the time to let you know that EVE online is now the 7th largest MMOrpg by market share. This means EVE surpasses, with its 200,000 subscriptions, games like EQ, EQ2, LoTRo, D&D online, etc, etc. This is as of April this year. It would be also fair to point out that the CEO of CCP has just been named by Massively as the 4th most important person in the entire MMO industry. I say this not to toute the "greatness" of eve, but merely to point out that you are a dufas and don't know what you're talking about.

My previous experience in the video game industry means nothing, other than I actually have experience with the industry and game development. It does not make me superior to you, or anyone else, it merely means that I have access to more information than you do about how the industry works, not to mention the current state of the industry.

By-the-by the MMO I once worked on is not a "failed MMO." It is still alive and well and in the top 10 of the largest MMOs by market share. That I choose not to reveal who I worked for by not telling you what game I worked on speaks to my own desire to possibly work in the industry again. You never know who reads this stuff (you'd be surprised) and how that might effect your future. Suffice it to say, I don't currently work in the industry because I've chosen to go to graduate school.

Lastly, but not least, I have been a vocal critic of CCP in the past over a number of issues. Because I poke holes in your uninformed analysis of CCPs business model and game implementation does not mean that I am a "fanboi." Though I do still wonder why a pure "hater" such as yourself would continue to play a game you can't seem to find ANYTHING good to say about.

I've looked around a bit on how gameplay in Eve has developed in my absence. IT doesn't seem that it has sprouted radical new elements, so are the career paths still miner, refiner, mission runner, manufacturer and trader? Is the exploration profession feasible? How hard is it to save up for a poccy again?

Yeah, the carebear professions are still ingame. Not sure if you know, but you can now invent T2 stuff on your own.

Ezxploration I have no clue about, some say they get nice shiny modules from it sometimes.

And saving up for a apoc... easy. But it all depends what you gonna use it for. If you wanna mine your better of going for a mining ship.

But it shouldnt be to much of a problem getting a new ship.

Exploration is feasible in 0.0 (and allegedly lowsec). Even with basic insurance replacing a T1 fitted BS loss in 0.0 runs about an hour.

There are really two professions in eve -- ganker or carebear. Each one has a core skillset and add-on skills (e.g., an experienced 0.0 covops pilot can make a good wad of cash scanning down plexes). Ganking includes gate camping, mission invasion, suiciding, pos takedowns and other fun work. Carebearing can be a bit of a grind but I find plenty of enjoyable elements.

What has changed in the last 2 years is mining rats with a combat ship is >>>>>>>>> mining rocks in a barge. Drones and rat loot reprocessing can far exceed your ability to mine and haul in an apoc, or even hulk. What hasn't changed: you still can't fight in a mining ship.

There are plenty of 0.0 solo friendly corps. Convo or evemail me in game and I'll explain how that works.

It would be great if we could get those that took advanatage of the offer to post here if they renewed or not, and the reasons for staying or leaving.

I had the same experience. Trying to move 2 accounts back up in high sec, only to be blasted by pirates and gate campers. I think the gate campers figured new players would be doing that and are intentionally waiting on the new players (old players). That's the kind of ganking that I'm against and posted that EVE should put in a combat/non-combat flag for certain situations like this one.

Do you want the old players back or not? CCP has to come up with a way to fight gate campers. They are the players they run new players away and when someone says something, they even confirm it on the formus by telling you to leave and EVE isn't for you ugh To those people I say get a life and stop telling someone else what game they should play or not play. It's not your call! You want to play WoW then go do it, but stop telling other people whats good for them.Evil or Very Mad
