I frequently have a problem where I will be trying to lock a target and the countdown meter will start, then before completing it will restart and keep restarting to the point where I wont be able to get a lock before the target is destroyed. This is when I spam target lock. If I don't spam target lock, then the timer will just stop and not restart.
This happens about 20& of the time on pvp targets. It has happened on npc targets but only a couple times.
Can anyone give me advice to fix this? |

This sounds like you are being jammed (ecm being used by npcs/players)
If you are being jammed you should see the notification just above your ships UI (it will look like the same countdown timer as shown when you lock something)
To reduce chances of being jammed fit some eccm modules (make sure you use the correct type for ships race...radar for amarr ship etc)

It is not due to jamming. It could happen against a 1 day old noob jumping into a gate camp. That probably wont earn me any sympathy for my cause but just evidence that its not jamming.

Pretty sure you will find its a server/client lag issue. Not really much you can do about it.

I had a similar issue when I ran missions a while back. Eventually, I decided to ignore it, as although the target lock timer was reseting, a lock would be achieved when the timer before the reset reached 0. For instance, if it normally took me 10 seconds to lock a ship, and the timer reset five seconds in, then a lock would still be achieved five seconds after that.
Eventually, the problem went away. I don't remember if it was immediately after a patch or not, so I'm not sure if it was program-related or a lag issue.
If it is the same way for you, then you can just ignore it like I did. If it is not... well, you've got a different issue. ----------------------------------------------
Say "Amarr ships suk, lol." I dare you.
