Is it even possible to fit a viable fleet sniping Apocalypse with 8x Tachyon IIs?

Sure.
[Apocalypse, Tach II Sniping] Reactor Control Unit II Reactor Control Unit II Tracking Enhancer II Capacitor Power Relay II Capacitor Power Relay II Heat Sink II Heat Sink II
100MN MicroWarpdrive II Sensor Booster II, Targeting Range Sensor Booster II, Targeting Range Sensor Booster II
Tachyon Beam Laser II, Aurora L Tachyon Beam Laser II, Aurora L Tachyon Beam Laser II, Aurora L Tachyon Beam Laser II, Aurora L Tachyon Beam Laser II, Aurora L Tachyon Beam Laser II, Aurora L Tachyon Beam Laser II, Aurora L Tachyon Beam Laser II, Aurora L
Energy Locus Coordinator I Energy Locus Coordinator I Capacitor Control Circuit I
Locks at 245km, 240km optimal.
Fits with a 1% grid implant at energy weapon rigging V or a 3% grid implant at the much more reasonable energy weapon rigging IV.
357 dps (no drones OFC), cap-stable.
This fit below is easier to fit (doesn't need any implants) and has more damage, but can't lock or shoot quite as far (200km instead of 240km).

But there isn't any buffer to warp out with =\
I guess is it possible to fit 8 Tach IIs, an MWD, some armor buffer tank, and make it run for at least 8 to 10 minutes?

In theory, only other tach apocs and rohks should be able to fire at it. And the rare raven that fits correctly.
In theory

I knew I had forgot something.
There's not a lot of spare room on the first fit - need PG implants and all, etc etc. On the second fit though you have over 1300 PG remaining, and since 1600mm RT plates take less CPU than heatsinks (and DC IIs take as much CPU), you can basically freely swap out heat sinks for plates / damage control. Take out the CPR in the lows and you can still run it for 8m30s, but, of course, only if you're starting at maximum capacity.
Or you can use megabeams - this has 170km optimal, 350 dps, and runs for 21 minutes, and can lock up to 200 km (240km with 3 range scripted boosters). [Apocalypse, Megabeam II Sniping]
Reactor Control Unit II Damage Control II 1600mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I Heat Sink II Heat Sink II Capacitor Power Relay II Tracking Enhancer II

Mega Beam Laser II, Aurora L Mega Beam Laser II, Aurora L Mega Beam Laser II, Aurora L Mega Beam Laser II, Aurora L Mega Beam Laser II, Aurora L Mega Beam Laser II, Aurora L Mega Beam Laser II, Aurora L Mega Beam Laser II, Aurora L
Capacitor Control Circuit I Energy Collision Accelerator I Capacitor Control Circuit I
Edit: to be fair, asking for the range and dps of tachyons, and some buffer, and a MWD, and also the tracking/damage mods to make the range/dps of tachs superior over that of other sniping weapons, and asking to be reasonable cap-stable *and* be able to lock that far...?
I think you'd need about 6 extra slots on the ship for that - 6 mids, 10 lows :P __________________________________

Because of crap fitting, you do more DPS with 7 Tach II since you can put heatsinks in the fitting mod slots. Remember all snipers needs MWD
7 Tach II > 8 Megabeam II. End of story.
Moral = Use 7 Tach II on apoc. Never Megabeam II unless you have crap fitting skills or are doing a mission or something. For PvP, its Tach II for sniping.

heres what ive been using not quite as much range as othe rsetups but has a good buffer (keep in mind i have a +3% pwg implant)

1. No MWD - Useless for sniping. 2. 3xACR's. Ok pricy, 3. Major Cap Issues with 8 Tach II. 4. You get 163km Optimal with Aurora L before you put tracking mods in, so you are incorrect with 150km optimal with 2 tracking mods.

Sniper doesnŠt need to be cap stable since there will be pauses in firing so cap regen can catch up. If you are shooting pos use standard L crystals. You need +3% CPU implant to fit it or alternatively use couple named items.

i read the optimal before puting the mods in -P, and you may need an mwd but mine works fine withought one and yes it does have cap issues but i was using this mainly for gatecamps and station camps so i would not be shooting for mor ethan 2-3 miniutes at a time

i been playing about with Tach IIs on an Apoc a bit, and am also finding it hard to get a decent fleet fit.
I am considering either named T1, or Mega Beam IIs. That way, can get MWD and make it DD proof, which is always nice. Anyone else thinking like this?

Needs -5% turret cpu implant. Obviously, switch around heatsinks with plates/tracking enhancers depending on the result you want to achieve. Can't see a reason to have 3 sensorboosters and more than the 165km or so optimal you get with tachs. Then again, I'd use beams myself over tachs Boink! |

love the 0.0ers yelling at the pirates about not using mwds and such
