Edited by: Tarminic on 20/07/2008 00:45:39 Looks like it might be good. A few questions - johnplayer, maybe you can answer these:
1. What's the balance of higher levels vs. lower levels? Can three of four "noobs" have any chance to take out someone of a high level? 2. How is the NPC AI really? 3. How many players can be in one location before lag starts to significantly affect gameplay? 4. How do they keep player entities from forming into large groups to duke it out (i.e. blob warfare)? 5. How many different weapon systems are there that you will use throughout levels? 6. How do you get experience from killing players, i.e. do you get more for killing higher level players, etc? ---------------- Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.83 (Updated 7/3) |

Well it's skillbased as in it's you that control your ship and not your avatar. Though it's impossible to know anything about AI, balance or complex game mechanics as the game is still in alpha.

Why SHOULD there be anything to keep people from playing with each other?

i will probably give it a ago but eve is my game and they cant make another one like it
and i have known so many people that have tried to leave
and the always return because it is so free
the sence of loss, the PVP
this game is truely adactive
JG look like it will be a fad at most
yes some parts look pretty and the free moving might be nice but it not a EVE killer, infact it probably not even going to be close

Because how in the hell is anyone going to be able to hit each other with 2-second lag using a manually controlled weapon system? ---------------- Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.83 (Updated 7/3) |

Edited by: Mankirks Wife on 20/07/2008 01:04:46 Going purely off what I've read, so it may be totally wrong.. but..
You have no skills, or levels, or anything like that. You can fly any ship with any loadout that you have access to just as good (theoretically) as everyone else.
To get access to new ships and better equipment, you run missions for factions, and when they like you enough, they'll sell you whatever you've earned access to, presumably at a cheap enough price enough so when it goes boom it doesn't hurt too much.
I hate to use a worn phrase but that sounds like the WoW-in-Space formula to me. And the controls sound very FPS-like, which is great but I know from all my hours spent playing UT that those kinds of controls require really low pings (>50) to work well and I have yet to see any MMO that doesn't lag up when lots of people pile into one place and start doing anything more advanced than picking their noses.
So I'm watching, maybe it'll be good but I'm going to wait till I see some reviews after it's out.
