Three nations have not officially adopted the International System of Units as their primary or sole system of measurement. Before you click the link, guess which three countries?

Is that Wiki-page right when it says that the kilogram(kg) is the base unit for measuring mass in the SI?
That just makes absolutely no sense, it should be the gram, why the heck would they have put kilo infront of it otherwise?

I believe the basis of all weight measurements is the kg since the etalon actually weighs 1kg. AFAIK there's no etalon gram.
It's different for length since the etalon is 1 meter long instead of 1km So it's actually logical.
Yeah, meanwhile found it click here

Isn't that how they always measure oil on the large scale?

Painfully yes (work placement with an oil company). My university decided that we should always work in metric so I have no real idea what 20,000 barrels of oil is, but I'm sizing stuff for that volume... lol

Interesting. None of the other base units have prefixes. Must be why I got confused. It does make sense though.
So a gram is 1/1000 of the kilogram and not the other way around. ---

Well, today it is. But the original measurement was the gram, which rather quickly became the kilogram since the gram wasn't all that practical.
I wonder if they're ever going to do a re-measurement of the IPK against 1 litre of vienna standard ocean water (at it's maximum density). It would be interesting to see how the IPK has changed over the years since the first test. ______________________________________________ -You can never earn my respect, only lose it.
