Andreus, I'm not sure what you think your perpetual thrashing about will accomplish. Either you're so threatened by us you feel you must appear in every thread that even mentions us, or you simply have nothing better to do. Perhaps you should find solace in the Intaki religion, take a break somewhere. We probably won't take over the galaxy via galnet if that's any help.

The technician looked up startled after reading the information of the most recent clone to activate. This one had taken just over two years to process from the last moment of pod destruction.
"I have such a headache. This cloning seems to get worse and worse each time. I feel so... inadequate without my implants. So tell me... what have I missed." the capsuleer grinned as he slowly sat up.
"Er, quite a bit actually. I think you're going to need the reorientation program sir. It seems you've been stuck in cell regeneration for, er, just over two years. Lately the biggest news is that the Empress is.."
"Hold on. Empress? What are you talking about?"
"Jamyl Sarum sir, well, not officially crowned yet but.."
The capsuleer reached over to grab him, but his grasp was feeble and the technician backed away.
"Jamyl? No. She died. I saw it. We were ready to stand behind her if she contested the outcome of the "Trials". Her Flagship was there ready to fight for her, our battleships were armed, ready to fight for her. All of us, who served the Imperial Navy and House Sarum. She made us stand down, and then she..." tears ran down the pilot's face as he struggled to remember the horror. "She performed the required final Ritual. There was nothing after that. NOTHING!"
The technician handed a towel to the stricken pilot.
The old pilot continued in a hoarse whisper, "I was so heartbroken I could not even face my mission agent anymore, and now you tell me, the Lady lives? How is this possible?"
The technician shook his head, "I don't know all the details sir. I'm sorry."
But the pilot was looking into eternity, unseeing all around him, "How is this possible?"

It's remarkable what can be accomplished when the entirety of the Amarrian Empire and Church conveniently decide to defy their "infallible" scriptures, break their "holy" laws, and trample their "sacred" traditions into the ground, isnt it?

Perhaps I am starstruck from long hours among the Veldspar, or corrupted by infomorph psychosis, or even a heretic as is being bandied about so freely here. However, my pledge of faith is to God, not to the Heirs or the Theology Council. I serve the apparatus of the Empire because it serves God. When I have reason to fear that the leaders of the Empire have turned their back on the scriptures for temporal gain, then yes I feel a need to question those leaders. The Ardishapur spokesman's statement calling the Empress-Elect's acclamation by the Theology Council "a decision following their heads rather than their hearts" is particularly galling as it rings true.
Have we forgotten Chamberlain Karsoth so soon? I respect the lofty positions of the Heirs and the Council but they are not infallible, as our erstwhile Chamberlain did his best to demonstrate. So please forgive me if I am cynical right now, but the last several years have not been of the sort to lead me to invest complete faith in our mortal leaders. The Empress-Elect may prove to be the best thing that has happened to the Empire in my lifetime, but at the moment her presence is troubling as almost all of the explanations for her return are ... problematic ... and neither the Empress-Elect herself nor any of our religious authorities have spoken out otherwise. Our losses in the field do not suggest to me that divinity has been blessed upon us in material form. Please enlighten me as to what news I am missing that makes these concerns immaterial?
I was on the front lines battling the heretic forces in space and engaging their installations, but had to step away for a stretch due to an illness in my family. Now I prepare to return to the front only to find the most distressing news awaiting me, with prominent arrests like Orsha's heresy only the tipping point. Most of my war assets are in and around Amarr, and now I am unsure that I can dock to rearm for the battle without being arrested.
It is almost enough to drive one to a monastery.

*a curious smirk is present as Inara's face flickers into existance*
The trivial matters of the Empire are of no great importance to me (I have stated on many occasions I wish to see all the nations fall)... however, I must ask why Aselus, as devout in his faith as he claims to be, is resisting the "divinely ordained" placement of their new Empress?
Sounds to me like she needs to take some lessons in the use of a flog and teach you when it is, and is not appropriate to speak your mind. You may not agree with every decision that your superior make, I'm sure I have made some decisions that not all of my subordinates were pleased with, but to openly defy like this is simply foolish; even I, a Caldari pilot living in Gallente low sec space, know that.
*obvious sarcasm begins to infiltrate her words as she continues*
What are you going to do once she has ascended to power? Turn traitor? Go rogue and join a band of pirates? Support the Minmatar?
If you choose to support the Empire, you must not think, you must submit yourself to their every whim, beck and call. You claim to be, and are accused of being, an Empire of slavers; I say you are the slaves, and you should start acting like one. If you want a choice in matters, go fly with the Federation, they could use some color in their organic waste colored ships.
*chiming is heard from the background, Inara glances at a screen out of sight and her face lights up*
Ooh, it appears that the school project is ahead of schedule... But that also means I have to go back planetside to finish up some paperwork, I'll try to keep a Comm with me.

I cannot believe that a God who has supposedly endowed us with sense, reason, intellect and curiosity intended us to forego their use. The idea that a person should never question their government is absurd. Blind obedience engenders tyranny. Unquestioned sovreigns take liberties. Leaders who cannot be held accountable for their actions abuse or ignore the very rules they are supposed to uphold.
The reason that the Federation works, and continues to work, despite its somewhat disparate nature, is that its leaders are visibly accountable for their actions. Unpopular politicians who make unpopular choices will not be reinstated, as the public will not vote for them. A politician who makes popular choices has his office protected by the popular vote. In turn, the various constitutions and charters of the Federation prevent a disgruntled politician from taking his ire out on the populace or the system, or trying to sa***uard his rule by illegitimate means.
In Amarr society, there is the Theology Council, sure, but they are technically just a more permanent iteration of what was originally an ad-hoc advisory committee. The Privy Council also has some power, but they cannot truly force their will upon the Emperor - he (supposedly) has a divine mandate. The only person who can truly hold the Emperor to account is God, and he's notoriously reluctant to actually give directions. -----

Logan Xerxes, I must agree with your assessment. You are the reason the Empire is weakening... not the Matari invasion forces. The Amarr society is a society of Slaves, everyone from the laborer manually working the grounds of a plantation to the Pod Pilots themselves are slaves. The Pilots have just been listening to Gallente propaganda about "choice" and "democracy", and it has made them forget who they are...
Originally by: Andreus Ixiris The reason that the Federation works, and continues to work, despite its somewhat disparate nature, is that its leaders are visibly accountable for their actions. Speaking from my experience, the masses are easily swayed into thinking whatever those in power want them to think, whether it's an Empire or a Democracy. The only difference is that a leader within a democratic society has the ability to make those under him feel that it was their choice. You claim a moral high-ground when you have none, I live within your decrepit borders, I am all to aware of the corruption that takes place near me. If anything, I would say the Gallente are better slavers than the Amarr, aside from their contribution of Tri-Vitoc, they use the illusion of choice to ensnare people yet allow them to believe they are free men or women.

Ahh, the interesting portion of the Amarr hierarchy... You should be careful on your gender qualifying pronouns, it could very well be a 'she' rather than a 'he' in the near future. Maybe there will be some intelligence applied to the throne this time, no unnecessary spraying of testosterone to prove themselves worth of holding their title. Whether or not the Emperor/Empress is Divinely Mandated to hold the position isn't really relevant. What does matter is that the people of Amarr believe the person wearing the crown is Divinely Mandated. If they truly believe that, I say conversations such as this one would never have been started.
I applaud the Gallente in "poisoning their minds" with the ideals of democracy and choice in political matters. You have done more to weaken the foundations of Amarr than the Jovians did after the foolish attempt to subjugate them.

I'll explain it then. It is a trial. Like so many things. God gifted us with with virtues and flaws. Virtues are those that help us understand our place in the universe, being Faith the most important one. And flaws are those that keep us from that, among which curiosity is probably the worst.
The Trial is to overcome those flaws and use your virtues in order to accept Him fully, in order to submit to Him and give yourself to Him. Trust Him so much that no question or doubt remains.
And, afterall, God has chosen every Amarrian Emperor in the last centuries (we will see about the new Empress though).
Quote: The reason that the Federation works, and continues to work, despite its somewhat disparate nature, is that its leaders are visibly accountable for their actions. Unpopular politicians who make unpopular choices will not be reinstated, as the public will not vote for them. A politician who makes popular choices has his office protected by the popular vote. Oh, the Federation works? That is new, I must admit. But please, if it works so well, howcome the Caldari have taken Caldari Prime almost with no losses?
Answer is obvious: because you don't submit yourself. Even the Caldari do it to some extent. We do it, and so God took care that the Minmatarr forces were routed out and one of the three task forces completely destroyed.
Quote: In Amarr society, there is the Theology Council, sure, but they are technically just a more permanent iteration of what was originally an ad-hoc advisory committee. See, there you have the worm of your questioning. An Emperor doesn't have a supposedly divine mandate, He has The Divine Mandate. And exactly because of that, God has chosen Him for being worthy of his place, and because what he will do is what the Empire needs or deserves. Even those that seem to us like bad Emperors, are in truth chosen by Him to guide us or to test us, or to warn us.

Until the proper rituals are performed, Jamyl Sarum is Empress-select. This may go on for some time, years, maybe decades.
Will the ritual-suicides take place upon her permanent elevation? These are Emperor's thoughts I'm afraid, not those of a lowly son of a Cyber-Knight.
Loyalty and respect must be earned, but in the fabric of the Amarrian mind there are institutions that by their very majesty command those behaviors.
I do not know what has caused the tear in the construct of Aselus' mind, but I am duly surprised he still breathes.

My thoughts are quite simple: an heir that has failed the trials must die and make their way to god, as god has shown us. Not lead us, when god has clearly shown her unworthy. Those among us that are weak enough to forget traditions that have forged this empire, and the strength of those who hold the blade at the affront are weaklings trembling at their own uncertainty. You may not fully agree at times with the rights of ascension, but they are the light of god upon this darkness we inhabit. When last the Trials where met by fellow immortals and a champion had shown his ruler right, we may not have all agreed upon the chosen Emperor Doriam, but god had clearly shown him to us. Here the weak minded among us wish to blind gods wisdom, lest it prove different then what they wish it be. And yet you call me heathen when you act more as Gallente then I!

Edited by: Aselus on 31/07/2008 18:37:25 I do not run, nor would I leave Amarr prime on empty threats from the likes of you. I am far too busy holding the front in the war to take time out towards being a coward, you should understand that taking hand in the war yourself. Any self respecting Amarr would not bow out at such a state of affairs. Unlike some others among us I see my honor, and that of the men with me above all. I have a fleet to run for the might of god and the strength of the Amarr.
If you wish to throw empty threats on your grandmothers behalf, i recommend you pick a weaker willed target. I represent the traditions of our empire on this, not the selfish thinking of any one man or woman. There is no one heir I wish to place upon the throne, unlike yourself, just the ways of the light to shine true, lest be marred by weaklings who wish to avoid the trials. Especially one who had previously lost.
I would think it a waste to throw a warrior such as your grandmother to the wayside, and would be proud to fight beside her, but the leadership of this Empire is not something that should be so lightly penned without the rights.

Who said they were empty threats? I know for a fact that my grandmother will not stand for treason, heresy or any other action against the betterment of the Empire. I suspect the only reason that you currently are not hanging from the walls of Dam Torsad is due to your current service to the empire, or a member of one of the other great houses has spoken for you. The leadership of the Empire will be decided by it's legal ruling bodies. This includes both the Theology Council and the Privy Council. If both have decided on a course of action than it will be for the betterment of the Empire.
