As I understand it, when you enter ambulation in a station then you (the player) are placed onto a seperate node/server. So, if youve got a system / node with 200 people in it and 190 of them dock to go ambulate somewhere then the real load on the 'in space' node will be just 10.
So, ambulation might go some way to actually reducing lag. IIRC CCP are trying to do something similar with the market aswell.

As one reply pointed out, the real issue comes when those 190 that are docked and/or walking around in station rush for the elevator and all try to undock at the same time.
That's when the guys in space will probably see a lag spike ...
So you want security? That's perfectly alright. But you should be willing to trade freedom and profit for that security. |

Maybe have a queue for undocking, so people trickle out of station. But this will probably have an effect on some pvp tactics.

Could you please look @ adding the following options as part of gambling.
1. - The ability to bet anything you own in the station you are playing at. (prevents people from betting items in locations that are unattainable to the winner) That means a system to bet; ships / bpo's / bpc's / mods / isk / you name it.
2. - A gambling tournament setup would also be nice.

The WoW Rogue speaks! And no you can't play Undead aka forsakken either.
On the other hand I would love to see though how the Station Concord MP squad ****s you up all over the place, then blows up the ship you got docked there, and then tear out your implants and shoots you in the head. Hey it's WoW with guns! Sounds great eh?

EDIT: Found this video on EVE China. It's in English and is some 289.0MB big, but being a Chinese server it's going to take a while to dl. I'm nearly done downloading it now and I'll post about it in a bit. Don't click the picture, the link is wrong, but click the button in chinese next to it.

One way to look at it, though: Wouldn't this sort of be the expected mechanic? I mean... maybe I'm wrong, but wouldn't it be kind of silly to think that the stations have an infinite number of facilities for putting a capsuleer back into their pod? I mean... you've to to strap 'em in, check to make sure they're seated properly, then fill the pod with pod goop and seal it up... then insert it into the ship. Hardly a five second process if you ask me.
That being said, with only a limitted number of "re-insertion" facilities in the station, it would be impossible for a large group (ie. 190) to suddenly be back in their ships. Following storyline information, you've basically got the option to enforce a staggered disembarkation through simply saying, "This is how it would logically work." Getting into a pod isn't at all meant to be like hopping in a car and turning your keys in the ignition.

from reading back story your ship has its own systems for putting you in pod I'm fairly sure its not always ejected everytime you leave ship as while ship is out in space you can get out of pod and make love to your crew.

The fat-gaining demonstration really sneaks up on you. It's like he has a 1200 gc/s metabolism and is having olive oil injected directly into his stomach at about two cups per second. Truly startled me.
Anyway, I'm loving the Achura clothing and what I'm assuming at 12:00 is Intaki clothing. __________________________________________________ 'The illiterate of this century are not those who cannot read and write; but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.' |

you know, if they follow what the novel says, it takes abit time to get in and out of a pod. as the pod has to be removed from the ship, then cracked open, drained, and then your unplugged
a seperate node would help reduce lag for those wanting to play outside the pod, jita would still be laggy thou

My foremost question has to be: When you speak of corporation uniforms, are you referring to more than just placing the corporation's insignia on a uniform that all corporations share? That is, is designing the uniform somewhat like designing the insignia, in that it is composed of multiple selectable parts and colours?
In the ChinaJoy vid Eris says that clothes can be customized to a certain extend, different materials and colors can be swapped but it has all been decided by the Artist, which specific colors and textures etc. All to avoid Goons in Pink jumpsuits bumping people in person :P

Yeah. They have mentioned that it is planned IIRC. Captain's quarters at least, and then some stuff about other parts of the ship, though I dunno if that is just walking a specific route to the exit or what. I don't imagine they will fill in an entire ship worth of space for each ship of course, since that would be something like putting 3-4 Manhattan sized areas into 3-D for something like a Titan, and far from non-trivial for smaller ships as well.
Very small ships you wouldn't think it would be a problem though. A frig is only about (large) airliner sized. --------------

Why not go all out and have public live puppy eating sessions too?

Hey, I don't want to kill you and take your stuff in ambulation.
I just want to kill you and wear your face. Does that make me so very "evil"?
I think not.

You should've seen all the topics on the AoC forums from people not only wanting to be able to kill pretty much anyone and anywhere, but also be able to loot every single item on their bodies. Heck, some of them wanted to be able to permakill people, just out of spite.
It's the beginning of Dot Hack, I tell you!
By the way, lovely thread!

The novel bad a character who had been podded with skill loss retraining it outside the pod. If it used to be pod only they changed it.
Q: I know live outside viewing is a no, but can we please have big observation windows or holograms with a selection of static (but local) views to choose from? Even at a premium cost? I want Ten-forward, danger!
Also, how about telepresence? To appear in a place holography without being on the same station? Would only need a shades for the character model and the comms Code...

Second that. There will be no Real Time looking out windows as stated in the fanfest 2007 video, but a seperate view of the system might be possible. It would only depend on how much it will take to implement windows and said local space view. If the space-sphere pic causes to much lag in the stations it will probably be a no go. However a connection between the space station and the space surrounding it, even if it's on seperated servers, will give at least 'the feeling' you're still in the big EVE universe.

Edited by: Black Phlanx on 17/08/2008 17:20:03 All they'd have to do is render ships orbiting the station. It wouldn't be real-time outside the station, but it'd atleast make it look like there is activity going on outside, especially if the station is going to be it's own seperate entity on a server.
I'd atleast like to have a viewport in my quarters....
Does anyone know if there is "high stakes" gambling? I really don't wish to sit at a video poker machine to win pots of 1,000,000 iskies as the top pot.
Id like to be able to make starting bets at 1 million isk and up. Maybe have machines at different bet levels to accomidate for newwer players that cannot afford to just throw away 1 million at a time.
