I'm not sure if this should go here or the Game Development Forum, but I figured I'd post it here first.
I think I've found a minor issue with the Scimitar model in Trinity. It looks like it should have a few extra solar panels on it, but they do not appear in the game. The model has the extra geometry and there is a DDS texture for the additional panels, but the texture isn't loading for some reason. I suspect a typo...

Yes, I did discover this while extracting the model; I was just curious to see how some of the ships were built when I stumbled across this error.

Edited by: Staggerr on 22/07/2008 17:26:30 Can you try extracting the Scorpion also? Maybe you'll find the missing wing.
Edit: Nice find. Am interested to know why the game engine isn't showing it.

Edited by: Dirk Magnum on 22/07/2008 18:42:49 Just a minor fix: they aren't solar panels, they're radiators. Minmatar engines produce the most heat of any race's ships, and they also have the least sophisticated cooling systems. Large radiator fins allow the ships to lose excess heat at a sufficient speed.

Ahh...
Well, then this is a serious issue! Those poor pilots will die of heat stroke! |

While we fix that, can we also sack the guy who done the new trinity vagabond model and get the old one back, but shinier ? -------

Edited by: Guillame Herschel on 22/07/2008 19:23:52 The Broadsword model in Trinity is missing some panels that are present on the Broadsword in the standard client. It has two panels on the back just like the Rapier. I wonder if an export of the model would reveal another typo like the one you found on the Scimitar.

No, they actually are solar panels. Minmatar reactors are not high tech enough to power a modern Eve ship, so they added jury rigged solar paneling to capture solar radiation. Infact, the Maelstrom which is a fully modernized vessel, should have been designed without them...like the Hurricane was.
Radiators wouldn't exactly work in a vacuum anyway.

Space isnt exactly a va****either, it is quite close, but increasin surface are does cool objects in space as it does in Easths atmosphere.

Energy does escape, but something generating enough thermic energy as to require a Tempest's sails...yeah definately borderline nuclear detonation there.

Edited by: Dirk Magnum on 23/07/2008 04:48:00 Heat loss in a vacuum doesn't work the same way as it does in an atmosphere, but increased surface area still leads to greater heat loss over shorter amounts of time.
Also, the amount of energy that could be harnessed from solar panels the size of those on Eve ships would be pointlessly miniscule in relation to the energy needs of the ships themselves. The ships are often operating many AU away from the systems parent star, and the panels don't appear to rotate to face the star anyway, so it really isn't an efficient method of energy acquisition.

Perhaps you underestimate the solar energy capturing technology in the couple hundred thousand year future that is EVE. _____________ Hai. |

Epic FAIL... 100% of the energy converted into electricity would barely power you house, let alone a space ship.... And good luck ever getting 100% even in a zillion years. (lol)

Also, did this just make the super sexy Scythe/Scimitar model even sexier?
Nice find.
All Minmatar ships should have more sails and fins, really.
