CL-85V Captains Quarters Broadsword Class Heavy Interdictor
Karn sits at his desk, staring into the holo feed. He grips a ice cold tumbler in one had, half empty of white spirits. Between the fingers of his other hand smolders a half smoked roll of Pator's finest.
He is on edge, not entirely comfortable with speaking on general broadcast, yet his jaw is set determined to go on. He takes a sip from his drink and a long drag on his smoke, exhales slowly, then taps a key bringing up the following text:
Warrior
1. a person engaged or experienced in warfare; soldier. 2. a person who shows or has shown great vigor, courage, or aggressiveness, as in politics or athletics.
Karn pauses a moment, then speaks.
"I am a warrior, it has always been that way even when I didn't realise it.
I am trained to kill, but more than that, I have the instinct to kill, an instinct that far as I can tell goes back to the very beginning of days.
I am human and fallible, walking in the valley of death, ever toward the setting star in the west.
I cannot say all I have killed deserved to die; such is the nature of war. I cannot say I have not fired in anger, or for pleasure, nor that I am not plagued by regret and knowledge of grave errors made.
I am after all human.
I respect my enemies I honor the dead I speak truth as I see it I fight for freedom."
Karn leans back in his chair and raises his glass in salute.

Karn Mithralia, you are not just a warrior. You are a Brutor warrior, and a leader of a respected warband.
That said, humility befits a good warrior. As does purpose and lack of illusion.

You are a Warrior Karn. You are a Warrior, a Leader, a Dimplomat and you are a true Brother.
You are also something more important than all those things. You are a free man.
They valley of death is long and your way hounded by the baying of hounds. But you do not walk alone Brother. We are with you and we are warriors all.

Aside from the fact that "mindless drone" is a phrase applied to Caldari more than any other race, no faction is innocent of being pompously arrogant. Any thoughts otherwise are as delusional as thinking CONCORD will look away just this one time while one shoots a neutral pilot in high security space.

Quote: ... Walking in the valley of death ...
Every time, in that brief moment our Pod explodes and our body is flung into the void, it is that time I can almost feel ... real death. For me as a podpilot it will only ever be walking in the Valley; never halt, never stop, never pause as every road leads towards an exit, ...., another clone.
It must be my curiosity (or perhaps my longing?) for that moment I can halt, lie down in the valley and start my final rest; to be called a True Warrior; This privilige may perhaps be a long way ahead for me, if it is ever granted to me.

Warrior is akin to Murderer in this case.
You started a war by attacking neutrals. You invaded Amarrian sovereign space. The actions of the Minmatarr have sent the whole Cluster down the way to Hell, and that is something no one can change. If you trully are more than a murderer, you should start working to arrange it so this war ends.
It is simple, all Minmatarrs have to do is retreat to their borders of space. |

When I think "mindless drone", it's not the Minmatar I think of, nor even the Caldari - no, it's the Amarr. They follow a religion based around murder and slavery whose "proof" consists entirely of a long string of apophenia-induced delusions.
As for pompous Gallente arrogance - well, I won't fault you there. But the thing is - it's OK, because we're right. -----

Karn views the responses to his broadcast, a frown across his brow, deep in thought. He pauses for a moment, mentally composing a response, then begins to transmit.
"I was not writing as a member of a faction, simply as one man, a free man as my brother Telemicus points out.
I have publicly stated on several occasisons that I have my own reservations about the Concord sanctioned territory trading farce so much capsuleer energy is being expended on, and made made it clear I see Concord as in many ways as bad as the Amarrian instituation of slavery they condone.
It saddens me to see our people rise with such spirit to have that spirit curbed by law makers and bureaucrats. Don't get me wrong, much has been gained, but I can't shake the feeling something has been lost.
Those with eyes in their heads will know that Ushra'Khan forces have withdrawn from this battle, our aid no longer required in the Bleaks. Beware of generalising my friends, assumption is a dangerous thing in the field of war."
Karn shrugs.
"I didn't broadcast here to speak of politics, what I sort was a honest self appraisal of an indidiuals position in the scheme of things. Hell, I didn't even denounce slavery in my broadcast, although my feelings on that abomination of thought and belief remain unchanged.
So, I know myself, how about you capsuleer?
What say you all?" -----------------------------------------

Ever since I was born I have always had a single pursuit above all else. Not of violence, not of gaining land, power, money, assets or anything else. No. What I have always been moving forward to is rather simple.
Knowledge. At all costs.
I care not for violence, war, conflict or anything else. Its primitive and short sighted, in my own opinion. We as capsuleers are capable of moving humanity forward if we wanted, as a whole, to cooperate on mutual grounds.
People who make war for the simple sight of revenge, such as we have seen recently do nothing for humanity. This is what I am about, if you must ask. ---- ôWhen a Dove begins to associate with crows its feathers remain white but its heart grows blackö - Unknown.

Hm. Very well, Mr. Mithralia, I'll take up your topic.
I do not think I am a warrior. I am not certain I ever have been, but I am not, now, if I ever was. Whether you are, I cannot say, and so I will not dispute your own sense of the matter. However ...
predator
1. An organism that lives by preying on other organisms. 2. One that victimizes, plunders, or destroys, especially for one's own gain.
I think either or both definitions suit a great many of our kind very well.
Some choose to prey upon humans. They shatter conventional ships, slaying victims who often never had so much as a fighting chance, for all that they went down fighting, and for this they are rewarded, whether by CONCORD or by the institutional entities that commission the killings. But I long since lost my taste for such hapless prey.
Against fellow infomorphs, however, I may truly test myself. And them.
Like you, I have the instinct to kill. Once I thought that this instinct would make a soldier of me, but I have long concluded that I, at least, am ill-suited to that role. I believe that this is true of all of us, that what we do can never be called "soldiering," but I am not certain, nor am I in a position to judge.
I am fallible, after all, if not necessarily "human," a creature of the empty spaces between worlds where all tracks fade, yet much can be seen. My stars never set, and never rise, unless it is as I pass through a world's shadow.
I no longer care whether those whose lives I end deserve it, though I find cloying the claims of my fellows who say they serve "justice," as though justice can be served in the deaths of millions. I do not remember the last time I fired a weapon in anger-- but for joy, that I have done: launched wave upon wave of friend-or-foe missiles upon defenseless starbase structures, merely for the symphonic glory cascading forth from the resulting destruction.
Once I felt regret for becoming what I am-- for becoming a capsuleer at all. But those days are past.
I have long given up thinking myself human, but, in what I am, I seek my perfection, a unity of mind and ship.
I respect my enemies I honor those who show regard for truth I speak truth as I see it, and seek it always I fight for many reasons, but mostly to know myself, and in so knowing to know the heart of all things.

I am no longer claimed by the Caldari State, nor do I wish to be. And you are correct in saying none are innocent of arrogance... however, it is the Gallente that gall me with their approach. The Minmatar arrogance is based in their belief that they are "mightier warriors" when they are just as easy to knock out of the sky with missiles as anyone else, the Amarr for their holier than thou righteous attitudes, and the State of which I originate for their arrogance in putting faith in the ISK. But beyond these is the Gallente arrogance of claiming to be peace bringers, yet they fly motherships into stations, murdering many, they side with a bloodthirsty group who wish nothing more than to see an Empire fall.
As for Concord, *spits in a very unlady like manner* may they disband and fall to shambles.

I wasn't referring to the Minmatar as a whole, just those that claim the title "warrior" as Karn Mithralia has. They are so blinded by rage, that the slightest provocation or prodding from a malintentioned source can send them on a rampage of murder and destruction. Sometimes even of those they claim to be "liberating".
Originally by: Andreus Ixiris As for pompous Gallente arrogance - well, I won't fault you there. But the thing is - it's OK, because we're right.
*A hearty laugh comes from Inara before she continues*
I won't touch that.
Originally by: Karn Mithralia I was not speaking as a member of a faction, simply as one man
And I speak of men like you, not all that fly under your banner are abominations. I speak only of those that would wear the title "warrior" as you have put it forth.
To Aria Jenneth, you put to poetic words the chaos which you bring. But I would like to think that while I take many of the same thrills from the hunt as Mr. Mithralia and yourself, we are all different. Warrior, as described by him in his first transmission, is a instinctual existance. The one you describe is that of a hunter, always wary, and always looking for a challenge. Myself personally, *corner of her mouth twitches into a half smile* I am a b****, I hunt and kill for neither instinct or desire to prove myself, it's just business to me. I will not hesitate to disappear behind a cloaking field if I feel the odds of a fight are turning against me; I was once told that if I ever encountered a fair fight in New Eden, I had done something wrong.
May you all fly safe until your ship appears in my interface.

"There's always someone waiting to take pot shots eh?"
Karn grins.
"Inara what makes you think I am a mindless drone, blinded by rage? I suspect you know almost nothing about me beside your base prejudices on what a warrior is.
Warrior-hood is a state of mind first and foremost. Not being blinded by rage, or acting as a mindless drone is a key to success, particularly if the burdens of leadership are thrust upon you.
I said the instinct to kill was deeply seated in me, but don't make the foolish assumption that instinct alone drives and defines my actions. Take some time to learn my history, speak to my friends and my enemies, and you will see the idiocy of your words.
Yes I am human and fallible, but that does not mean my emotions rule me, simply that I am honest about my limitations and ability to make mistakes.
Inara, what little have you told us of yourself? Apart from revealing your prejudice, the only thing I have learned about you is that killing is just business.
In other words you kill to line your own pockets."
Karn laughs out loud.

*Inara is seen in a house coat with a Brutor massaging her feet*
The tone I heard in your first communication reflected a basic desire, verging on a need to kill, if that is the case then I stand by my words; if not... disregard them as a misunderstanding caused by a tonal malfunction of my translation program.
And my prejudice may have skewed my reply, many of your heritage are nothing but mindless, rage driven, drones of war. Little better than the autonomous creations of the Gallente. Killing because you are genetically inclined to (which is all instinct boils down to) is, from my perspective, unruly, almost savage... assuming it is instinct that drives you to kill.
You wish to know about me... I'm a simple woman, living in Federation territory, considered an outlaw by CONCORD, removed from the inheritance of my family due to my career choice, enjoying the pleasures of life. *gestures to the slave kneeling in front of her*
Killing is just business. I take no... *clears her throat and starts again* I take little pleasure in killing. I would rather hold your ship in place while your structure is venting atmo and demand a payment for your survival, it is usually much more profitable than destroying you and praying to whatever greater being that happens to be listening that you weren't completely incompetent when you fitted your ship, and you left behind something of value.
Do I kill to line my own pockets... yes. Am I ashamed of that... absolutely not. Do I have an ulterior motive... yes, but this is just a means of financing that ulterior motive. I also kill to protect what I now call home, and those under my care.
Another minor detail I would like to point out... mindless rage, that bloodlust, isn't always a bad thing, but when that rage consumes your entire existence it is; it has saved many of my ships and many clones. *a Jin-Mei enters in the background with a silver tray*
I hunt for pleasure, both planet side and amongst the stars. The most satisfying kills are when they don't even see it coming until it's too late. *Inara dismisses the Brutor male, who bows slightly before leaving*
Speaking of hunting, this is delicious. *the serving lady blushes at the compliment before rushing off to her other duties* You should think of joining me sometime, perhaps without the foulups of a translation matrix these miscommunications can be avoided. I have several Minmatar slaves that are quite adept at my native tongue and would be more than willing to translate the most accurate idea as well as the words. Besides, conversation is always more relaxed over a hot meal.
*disconnects the channel as the sounds of an obviously enjoyed meal are heard.*
