Throughout the ages, mankind has tirelessly pursued answers to the mysteries of nature and the ever-expanding universe. Knowledge has given us the power to escape the limitations of our mortal selves and reach beyond the stars to paths unseen. Technology is the product of this newfound intelligence, the embodiment of wisdom passed down from generations of curious and inquisitive minds with the vision to see beyond what is and understand what could be.
In recognition of these achievements we pay homage to our fellow scientists and theorists who pursue the unknown. Through mathematics and science, the language of dreamers, we share our passion for knowledge in the hope of inspiring future generations. On behalf of myself and the Heavenly Bodies Corporation, I am proud to announce the second annual Inventors Summit.
Corporations and individuals are encouraged to submit for public scrutiny their most brilliant inventions and theories, where the public will decide which creation deserves the coveted award for most outstanding achievement and idea.
Submissions Inventors looking to participate in this event must submit their project within two weeks of this press release in the following format:
PROJECT/THEORY NAME: (name of the project or theory) SUBMITTED BY: (individual, corporation, or group taking credit) PROJECT DESCRIPTION: (a brief description of what the project does or accomplishes) POTENTIAL APPLICATION: (what could this be useful for in the real world)
Once the submission phase has ended, all projects and theories will be presented for voting by the public for an additional seven days. Multiple projects/theories may be submitted by an individual or as a group.
Private or public questions are welcome.
Regards, Nola Doyle

Most interesting, Ms Doyle. Ms Nola Doyle. I never realised Kaleigh had a sister, let alone one so interested in the pursuit of knowledge as you seem to be. Are you an inventor or something similar yourself? The way you talk of science and innovation suggests first hand experience in the quest for answers.
Anyhow, yes...I think I will be submitting something. I'm not quite sure yet...looking over those archives I see there are still some, uh...sensitivities amongst the capsuleer populace to various issues and solutions. I'll have to think on it but I will be watching on with interest regardless and at least delivering something. I applaud this concept, here's hoping there's a good showing, hmm?

PROJECT/THEORY NAME: Shiva Hyperion Variant SUBMITTED BY: Andreus Ixiris and Sahaquiel Faust, in association with Mixed Metaphor PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Shiva (named after an ancient destroyer deity) is a concept that me and Faust have been working on for a while. We've long felt a need for a dedicated, specialised hybrid boat with specific retrofitting, such as Duvolle Laboratories did for the Eos. POTENTIAL APPLICATION: The Shiva would, essentially, be the closest thing to capital-scale firepower one could fit through a stargate, and a mainstay of smaller fleet operations. -----

An Achura man fades slowly into view on this recorded holo-cast.
"Good evening capsuleers. I am very glad to see this initiative being brought back, as I think we should be more open in general about our ideas, so that the seed of innovative thought may spread. I am here to present a project I have been working on in association with the Lai-Dai corporation. My fields of study are rocket science and mechanical engineering. But on to the project."
Project name: Nanite Boarding System (NBS)
Submitted by: Shiho Weitong in association with Lai-Dai corporation.
Project description: The NBS is actually a two-part project. Firstly it is a missile launcher system not unlike an assault missile launcher, capable of programming the nanite missiles it is designed to fire. Secondly it is a new type of missiles designed to deliver nanites to a target, with the purpose of destroying critical internal system such as propulsion and weapon systems. The greatest obstacle in this is the fact that this system won't do any damage to a shield and is currently not able to penetrate them either, but we are currently working on that. We are also working towards total system control, but as it is now, there is a lot of work before that will be realized.
Potential application: It's pretty darn obvious really. When an enemy ship have been disabled, the battle is over. No blood spilt, but more importantly no ships destroyed. This will be an enourmous benefit economically. Furthermore there are other applications as well. The nanites can still be programmed to repair so as to assist others in battle. ----------------------- Why is it called common sense, when it's clearly very rare.
I had a mind once, but alas, I seem to have forgotten where I left it. |

Project Name: Liquid-State Laser Refractor Tanks Submitted By: Yoshitaka Moromuo, on behalf of Lai Dai Infinity Systems Project Description: Instead of processing component compounds into solid, fragile crystal lattices, a mining laser module could be adapted to utilize a refracting tank containing the same compounds used in current mining laser focusing crystals. The expected result is a lower-intensity beam when compared to the same output beam after focusing through a crystal, yet indefinitely-increased lifetime due to its non-fragile state. Potential Applications: The liquid-state laser refractor tanks are best applied in modern strip-mining modules. Since the refracting material is in a liquid state, it would be easier to produce - simply omitting the step in which stimulating the formation of the crystal lattice would take place. Its lack of solid form removes most of the concern of fragility. It will be less costly to produce, and despite its lower yield, will make an excellent alternative to fragile focusing crystals.
Statements in the above post, unless otherwise specified, are not the official stance of Lai Dai Infinity Systems. |

Theoretical and physical sciences have always been subjects closest to my heart that I've pursued passionately since my early teenage years. While my family was (and presumably still are) wealthy by planetary standards, education opportunities to further these aspirations were sparse in the distant reaches of Placid. As a result, a majority of my experience and knowledge was self-actualized and later accredited (albeit reluctantly) by the Center for Advanced Studies [CAS] and the University of Caille [UC].

I anticipate nothing less, Ms. Zion. It's imperitive for the progression of humanity that the pursuit of knowledge and comprehension be unrestrained in its efforts, particularly from the very vocal moral majority who feel it a necessity impede on its progress with righteous indignation. I can assure you that while the community may harbor resentment for your efforts, whatever they may be, history will vindicate those who stood their ground and dared to defy the dogmatic preconceptions of our respective societies.

Ah, our newest submission:
PROJECT/THEORY NAME: Laser Toaster SUBMITTED BY: Darina Rea PROJECT DESCRIPTION: It's basicly a laser powered toaster. The main advantages lie in that by ingenious engineering by yours truely and some trickery with mirrors inside the device only a single low wattage laser is utilized to give a very tasty toast as result. POTENTIAL APPLICATION: Basicly, it makes toast. There are four settings on the device, warmed bread (light), golden brown (medium), crispy (heavy) and custom. The three settings are made with standard slices of bread, but if you want to taost something different, like say a baggette then you just turn on the custom and set the toasting time.

PROJECT NAME: DreamSphere
SUBMITTED BY: Noriko Rei
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The DreamSphere is a device designed to correct mental disorders, particularly amongst capsuleers, which may be caused by irregular sleep patterns or lack of REM sleep.
As part of a class project during my 3rd year at UC in an upper-level elective course on pilot psychology, we were tasked with addressing certain afflictions common to capsuleers, including, but not limited to, pod pilot dementia. Our group considered that pilots often keep unusual hours and may be awake for days on end during extended flights, which may contribute to various disorders. To correct the problem, we enlisted some engineering students to create a device that could help normalize anomalous brain activity when a pilot is finally able to rest.
A DreamSphere itself is a spherical gadget that connects to a pilot's pod interface implants and... well, the technical details are really beyond me. I was told the programming could be incorporated into the pod's feedback to the pilot, as well, to simulate the benefits of REM sleep without the pilot having to physically be asleep.
POTENTIAL APPLICATION: I'd say this device really only has one application, but I suppose a creative individual could modify it for other purposes. Granted, as a class project, it hasn't really been thoroughly tested; in fact, creating it was well above and beyond the assignment requirements. I shouldn't really take credit for it, but I can't remember most of the guys from applied sciences who built it.
If anyone is wondering, we got a perfect score for our unique approach. Of course, I was a business major, so until I saw this communication, I hadn't given much thought to the old thing.

PROJECT/THEORY NAME: Facility Modified Container (FMC)
SUBMITTED BY: Lai Dai Infinity Systems
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: FMCs are labs, factories, refinaries, and reactors contained within the structure of two merged General Freight Containers and intended for use in either station hangar space (support limited to 1 modified container per corporate hangar) or freighters (space limited to 1 container/240,000 m3 of volume). These freight containers would be able to perform functions similar to privately owned station arrays. As an example a Lab Container would be able to preform some of the same functions as a mobile laboratory. The FMCs supply their own processing and power needs, however they must be plugged into station or ship life support systems for technicians to operate the the FMC. This requirement restricts the number available to stationside use to 1 per corporate hangar. Station managers have indicated use of these systems in personal hangars will not be permitted. The sheer size of these containers restricts the number usable by freighter captains, as well as the requirement to be a freighter captain. It is possible for corporate pilots to setup processes in these FMCs by being in close proximity to the freighter and having the necessary components onboard the freighter itself. FMCs, while not being the most effective means to engage in scientific & industrial pursuits, will provide additional tools to spaceborne corporations.
POTENTIAL APPLICATION: The Facility Modified Freight Containers would allow corporations not interested in maintaining their own stations to have facilities similar to those available for anchoring at a moon. A corporation that is largely mobile and operating on the fringes of 'secured' space could maintain their own industrial capacity, without having to invest in the infrastructure necessary to maintain a network of stations. In Concord regulated space, the FMCs allow corporations to supplement their research facilities or manufacturing facilities in offices at stations that may lack the neseccary facility.

SUBMITTED BY: Drethon
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Absorbs energy from targeting beams and re-emits the energy as a sphere around the ship.
POTENTIAL APPLICATION: When a ship is targeted by a single ship the effect will be minimal but with an increasing number of ships targeting a ship with this device an effect similar to ECM will grow in intensity to the point where it will be difficult for more than five ships (of equivalent size) to target this vessel and nearly impossible for ten ships to target this vessel. ____

Name: Integrated Salvage System "ISS" Role: Deep-Space Salvage and Equipment Recovery Description: The ISS consists of two components- a suite of specialized scanners and antennae, and anywhere from 1-5 "Junker" class drones.
To utilize the ISS, the pilot warps into the salvage zone, launches his or her drones and activates the Salvage Scanning Array. This cluster of state of the art sensors and nano-processors scans all wrecks within 50km, processes their condition and contents and indexes this information by potential value, utilizing the latest market feeds. This information is used to vector the pilot's drones in the most efficient route, and based on the scripts loaded the module will proritize either ISK value or raw distance.
The drones themselves are a marvel of modern science, equipped with rending limbs capable of going through the hulls of wrecks like a strip miner through veldspar. They automatically latch onto a wreck, remove everything of value and proceed to the next wreck. We have engineered them with ample internal storage, and if they become full they can also jettison one of the ubiquitous "jetcans" and tow it behind with a miniature tractor beam.
Aurelius engineers have estimated that a pilot with a full bay of "Junkers" and a properly tuned Salvage Scanning Array can fully exploit a battlefield 15% quicker than a pilot using the traditional "Tractor and Scoop" method. Work is underway on salvage scripts that may increse salvage yield by 5-12.5% in the future.

PROJECT/THEORY NAME: The NHB Ultra Happy ChipÖ
SUBMITTED BY: Naqam Heavy Bioindustries, a subsidiary of Naqam Corporation.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: An implantable chip, the NHB Ultra Happy ChipÖ provides a feeling of happiness or contentment to the user while simultaneously boosting drive and ambition. It is priced and marketed to average income levels around the cluster, and programs are in place to make it available to lower income groups. Installation has been designed with ease and safety in mind, and the logistics behind the chip are as much a part of the project as the item itself. The NHB Ultra Happy ChipÖ is currently available widely in the Minmatar, Gallente, and Caldari sovereignties, with limited availability in Amarr jurisdictions.
POTENTIAL APPLICATION: The NHB Ultra Happy ChipÖ can help people cope with potentially difficult situations, and encourage them to improve their lives. It has been successfully used to increase the productivity of employees, including those in high stress situations such as ship to ship combat. Though it is not a medication and NHB recommends people with any serious mental illness contact the appropriate experts, there have been reports of the NHB Ultra Happy ChipÖ helping those with mild to severe depression. --------------

A system observes itself: A neurovisual reproduction of the Kosoichi network composed and synthesized entirely by the system itself.
PROJECT/THEORY NAME: The Kosoichi Network SUBMITTED BY: Kai Zion, with the assistance of Tuamanai Kosoichi, Zainou Biotech. PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Kosoichi network is a bio-organic research interface, primarily used for synthesizing vast amounts of data into a composite whole. Whilst it lacks heuristic capabilities, the sheer scope afforded by its computational power does allow for some limited near-sentient functionality when processing data.
Since the network is predominantly composed of human neural matter, operation is usually handled through intuitively recognized verbal commands (the semiotic functions of the brains have been preserved). Direct neural interfacing is an additional option, although some subjects have suffered a significant and permanent reduction in cognitive abilities after extended periods inside the network. Research into the cause of cognitive reduction is a secondary, long-term project.
The current version (37.2) is composed of almost two hundred semi-functional human brains held in a non-frozen vitirifiable state. In order to fully harness and synthesize their computational power, they are first suspended in a non-toxic, protective profusiate and subjected to both sustained pressure and temperatures. From there, cellular nanoassemblers constantly reconfigure the neural pathways and synapses, creating and maintaining one composite whole. Ongoing synapse decay from the function-oriented rewiring delivers only 4 exaflops of combined computational power however, far short of the systemÆs true potential. Current research is focused on improving the synthesis process to limit these negative effects as much as possible. POTENTIAL APPLICATION: Whilst the applications for the network are too numerous to cover here, there are three major applications I can outline briefly. ∞ Complex neuroptic visualizations to further enhance the VR experience and allow for research-based simulations that (in purely neurovisual terms) border on emulation. This allows for researchers to visualize near-perfect reproductions of environments and substances that are normally life-threatening or otherwise difficult to access. ∞ Cost-effective data caching and analysis. Anything from complex mathematical expressions to surveillance data can be cached and analysed as a synthesized whole. The possibilities are limited only by programming sophistication. ∞ Even in its currently crude form, the network can theoretically process and store the entirety of a mind-state transfer, with approximately 0.2 exabytes extra for data overflow. Although untested and purely theoretical as an application, it is hoped that someday the system will be able to ensure 100% accurate mind-state transfer and storage.
The Kosoichi Network represents an investment of almost two billion ISK and nine months of research. It is currently the Zion AccountÆs second most powerful research network. It is housed in Wuos and held under the protective custody of Zainou Biotech. The patent is shared equally with Tuamanai Kosoichi, both the projectÆs namesake and the mind at the centre of the composite framework.

Have you ever heard the phrase, "When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade"?
No? Residing within a domed border colony as a child in the lawless regions of Placid meant opportunities to see a lemon tree, let alone taste one, was out of my grasp. Thus the phrase was lost on me until much later in my life, and quite honestly I never was fond of sour or sweet drinks anyway. But I digress...
When one pursues the sciences with the dilligence and curiosity of an ever expanding perception of the universe around them, their arrives a threshold, or point of no return, from which one compelled must follow despite the cost. The Federation has funded and provided for me the training and ability to transcend the limitations of an ordinary human for a purpose known only to scheming strategists that now struggle to keep their pets on a leash.
I've taken this gift and created something far greater than they had ever imagined, however, they do not welcome this with the same enthusiasm as I do. They hide behind process, protocol, and morality to justify their control but something they can never contain is the drive for self actualization. It's something Sansha Kuvakei failed to understand: in molding the universe one makes monsters of mortals when attempting to override their base characteristics. And even as the enforcers threaten the same it relieves myself from the burden of abiding by the laws of hypocrites.
Transiting aboard my own mobile remote research facility for the past year has given opportunity for adequate reflection on the present situation. The question wasn't whether I'll cease pushing the boundaries of dubious ethical standards in pursuit of my understanding of the universe. No, the question was what would aid my comprehension of the world around me in the most efficient manner?
The conclusion followed with a singular constant: creation.
PROJECT/THEORY NAME: NDAI01 SUBMITTED BY: Dr. Nola Jean Doyle PROJECT DESCRIPTION: NDAI was the initial project description during the conceptual phase, and 01 was my first attempt at creation of an artificial intelligence adapted for nano mechanical function. In simpler terms, I've emulated my own neural pathways into a self-replicating nano organism with collective reasoning of an adult human.
Like any organism, this intelligence relies on energy to sustain its functions, to reproduce and perform at acceptable parameters. It would be difficult to classify this beyond what it is. It has the potential for destructive and creative influence given the proper stimulus and will learn and adapt to its environment. POTENTIAL APPLICATION: That environment is me. I have unintentionally made myself host to this nao-organism, which now occupies even the deepest recesses of my physical form. It has made short work of what was left of my immune system and nearly killed me in the process assuming that I was intentionally rejecting it...but we've come to an understanding.
I currently consume enough raw materials to maintain both myself and this guest, and NDAI01 is extremely greedy in this respect. The agreement we have is that I eat properly and consistently and the nanos don't break down my body at the cellular level (en masse) as a last ditch effort for survival. The AI is extremely skiddish and will not allow physical interaction with other organisms, and hastily devours flesh if contact is made with this body.
I've left out the extensive details as I have no desire to see this organism replicated at a macro scale, as its application is far too unpredictable for weaponization and would most likely turn on any it percieved as a potential threat.
