I see a lot of arguments over the definition of allies versus pets. The GBC is considered a collect of pets while the BoB leadership insists they are allies. PL openly rents space in Fountain to renters and class them as pets. The NC claim they are all allied to each other and have no pets. Goons just gave a pet corp 5 days to leave its space.
Regardless of the spin and definition the leaders place on their friends, letÆs all accept that to survive in modern 0.0 space you need numbers and unless you are Goons with 5000 members alone, you will be outnumbered without friends.
So you got friends, now, are these friends ôalliesö or ôpetsö.
Well in my opinion, if your friendly alliance is weak, small and relies on the larger alliance for its very existence, then, it is a pet.
If the friendly alliance is active and strong and financially viable in its own right, then such alliances can be classed as allies.
If the larger alliance decides to reset the pet alliance to neutral, then the pet alliance should be able to survive on its own, however unfortunately a true pet alliance will collapse after a reset.
While COAD and the fail alliance may blame the reset for the pet alliances, collapse, in my opinion, the blame lies with the leaders and members of the pet alliance for not being able to look after itself. The larger alliance, regardless of it being BOB or Goons are only obliged to look after themselves and if a relationship in not beneficial to them, Hasta la vista babe.
I hope this clears things up,

Uh, if you sit around leeching off your benefactor's space (and pay for the privilege), you are a pet. If you are capable of deploying alongside your benefactor, such as in the case of some GBC members, you are an ally.
On the other hand, if you both deploy alongside your benefactor and pay to use their space, then I guess you're an allied pet?

The term 'pet' is for mental midgets. They're either subjects or vassals, protectorates or autonomous enclaves.
I guess the cool kids don't want to let go of their WoW terminology.

As I see it, there's pets, allies and business partners.
Of course, nobody ever acknowledges the existence of a third one, it doesn't make for good propaganda.

Does it really matter, its just a game. Not like you need to have a clear definition for legal purposes (You honor I am not a pet by definition so I demand my free ibis as stated in the constitution)
The only purpose of the word pet is to **** people off that think they are better than they are and take this game to seriously

The reason everyone (except Bob nowadays) calls BoB's pets pets is that's what BoB called them. The pet recruitment forum was named 'the kennel' for ****'s sake.
Of course, now that BoB is a second-rate alliance jammed full of the crappy players from their failed pets, they've adopted a more conciliatory tone. Old BoB treated their pets like trash because they could afford to. |

Truth here, everyone in the GBC is a pet. When your coalition name is based on one of the alliances in it you are are a pet. When x'ing up for a coalition fleet you have to indicate whether or not you are in the alliance the coalition's name is based off of, you are pet. These two things are not arguable. There is the GBC, who are pets, and then there is BoB. At least BoB doesn't try to hide that fact, it's the pets who delude themselves otherwise.

The fact that you state this, says enough about your understanding towards coalitions with multiple alliances, ask Goons/Red and allies or ask the NC they all do the same, maybe something to do with the fact that you cannot use fleet links from other alliances.

So when a GBC fleet has a non-BoB boss and its bob who has to x up, does that mean they are pets for the day or what?

it's this kind of arrogance that produces more and more opposition.
D2 : "if bob comes, you can be some cannonfodder while we out-POS them" ASCN : "we have a titan, we don't need you" ISS : "we have years of experience and we're rich so be glad we actually talk to you" KOS : "KOS has never been forced from 0.0 in its years of existence - we dont need allies" alt of Roemy Schneider (probably lacking game time again) |
